Northeast Ohio: Regionalism News & Discussion
I don’t think you can definitively rule anything out. Is it going to happen in the short term? Absolutely not, I agree. But things (and public sentiment) can change rapidly. You can’t predict what’s going to happen in 2030. There are many positives to the idea and very few (but important yes) negatives, and because of that I do t believe the discussion is ever going to go away fully.

Cleveland: Mayor Frank Jackson
I honestly don’t see a big difference between Republicans and Democrats at the local level. There are some philosophical views that differ, yes. But cities are all about operations, and in practice it doesn’t make much a difference. The problem with one party rule is that the County Democratic Party has all of the power. They rarely support (and often try and curtail) incumbents from being primaried, and this ends up hurting the voters, only left with one option chosen by the County Party.

According to last night’s Franklin-Clinton Block Club meeting, it’s to be Gus’s fried chicken. Apparently the code requires 16 parking spaces here, which is crazy ?

Philly at 3 and Chicago at 5 are really surprising to me.

ODOT Policy Discussion
It’s funny how all of the sudden we are “out of money” the day before the new governor is sworn in.

Let’s be honest, liberals have never excelled at branding & messaging.

Cleveland: Downtown: Justice Center Complex Replacement
They shouldn’t have even bothered providing a cost estimate...that’s the entire reason they are hiring the consultants. But maybe counsel asked for Public Works’ best guess, I don’t know.

Cleveland Parking Discussion
This is the only ban that I have ever heard of http://www.city.cleveland.oh.us/7.27.2017WeekendParkingRestrictions and I park downtown on the weekends all the time with no issues. This only applies to streets west of public square and overnight on Friday and Saturday.

Cleveland Parking Discussion
Yeah...the parking restrictions are limited to Friday and Saturday nights, and only in the Warehouse District/FEB. I park on 12th, 13th, Chester and Walnut frequently on the weekend.

Cleveland: Downtown: Euclid & 9th Tower / Schofield Building Redevelopment
There was a bar like that I went to in DC (was cherry blossom themed at the time)...was one of the coolest places I’ve ever been.

“Mayor Frank Jackson’s administration has never detailed exactly what led to the decision” This all seems weird ?

Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion
Okay...this is ridiculous. That is not how the system should work?!?! A spokeswoman for the Cleveland Police Department told CNN on Tuesday that since the incident was considered a misdemeanor, the onus would have been on the accuser to go to prosecutors if she wanted to pursue charges.

Body cam video sheds light on Kareem Hunt altercation at Cleveland hotel I hope this doesn’t just get passed by in the news cycle, it makes you afraid to be a victim of crime in this city. The police - Waited an hour and a half to interview the suspect - Arrested the guy who let the victim use his phone to call 911 - Refused to look at the hotel’s surveillance footage - Turned off the body cam when interviewing the suspect They didn’t even TRY to conduct an investigation here. https://www.wkyc.com/mobile/article/news/local/cleveland/body-cam-video-sheds-light-on-kareem-hunt-altercation-at-cleveland-hotel/95-620461455

How much is the lakefront multi-modal center? ?

Cleveland: Opportunity Corridor Boulevard
The contract has already been sold. No major changes will be made at this point. But anytime I think of wasted funds I think of the $350 million being spent on the 480 bridge and widening 271. ?

I liked the original design but maybe I’m in the minority lol. There are a couple of buildings in Toronto that look similar and I liked them in person. ??♂️- Lake Erie Restoration and Environmental Issues
Ohio is a Home Rule state though...I don’t know if Texas is. (Not that it has mattered much to the Ohio Supreme Court recently)- Lake Erie Restoration and Environmental Issues
I was glad Rep. Stephanie Howse called them on it “It’s amazing how this body selectively makes decisions on when we want to have local control versus when we don’t,” I’m sure this went in one ear and out the other though.- Cleveland: Public Square Redesign
I wasn’t able to go this year, but I remember all the fencing last year. I thought then that the excuse was firework safety. Even if that’s the case they need to be thinking about how people will be moving between different events. That’s a shame.- Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion
U.S. Marshals: Cuyahoga County deprives inmates of food, water and Constitutional Rights amid string of seven deaths This is extremely disturbing. I’m kind of speechless honestly...I hope a lot of heads roll because of this report. https://www.cleveland.com/expo/news/erry-2018/11/9b3d3f3cc89150/us-marshals-cuyahoga-county-de.html- Cleveland: Mayor Frank Jackson
Is it the local party chapter maybe? We never seem to have anyone challenge incumbents here. And then there is the City Council “I get to choose my successor “ rule which is complete hogwash too.- Cleveland: Mayor Frank Jackson
The Cleveland mayor’s race was like 2016 Part Two. I don’t know anybody that actually liked any of the candidates...a side effect of one party rule in the city. I personally don’t want to see any of the names from the last election. There is a lot of work that needs to be done to fix the city government.- Cleveland: Ohio City: Development and News
Something I thought was interesting was that one of the recommendations was to make the seed limit 25mph, after repeating over and over again that it was not legal to do so. I sent an email to some council members a good while ago that they were wrong, and that imo they could legally lower the speed limit. I was told the council lawyers would review it but I never heard back. - Cleveland: Downtown: nuCLEus
