  1. The way to correct it would be to go back to the original design. Unless they are planning on cutting back the amount of busses that go through the square than originally intended (is this true?), I anticipate this causing problems with the busses themselves getting thru the square. Squeezing them to one lane is pointless. Also, I can't see what purpose the planters in the middle of Superior west of the square serves.
  2. I thinks it's because so much potential lies off shore. You can see on the map that the greatest wind resource is by far the coastal areas.
  3. Clearly no one who knew what they were doing drew this up. Now the pedestrian signals which were specifically placed at the designed crosswalk locations probably won't be visable either.
  4. There is also Beachwood, Lyndhurst, Mayfield, all the way up to Willoughby. They are all nice suburbs and very safe. Westlake is a great suburb, but with traffic would be far (although being from SoCal you'll probably laugh at what we call traffic).
  5. For the most part, every thing mentioned is already in place. At Public Square there are overhead "Bus Only" signs above the lanes, next to the signal heads. There are also "Bus Only" pavement markings in the two thru lanes and curb lane. They just aren't done particularly well imho. Theres more that could be done to make the signage more conspicuous. The use of red colored pavement would require approval from FHWA, because it's currently deemed experimental. Edit: for clarity
  6. There is some sort of work going on there tonight actually. A large space on the ground floor was opened up (next to Potbelly's) and there was a dump truck from some "demolition" company parked out front.
  7. Apparently the answer is no. I'm surprised how much Jackson sounds like Trump...soon he'll be calling it a FAKE STUDY!!
  8. <b><i>RTA traffic and safety studies support reopening Public Square to buses</i></b> Both studies debunk Mayor Jackson's reasons for keeping Superior closed. I wonder if he'll concede or not... http://www.cleveland.com/metro/index.ssf/2017/02/rta_traffic_and_safety_studies.html
  9. Hallelujah! I was just conceding yesterday that Szabo was going to be director indefinitely. There have been a lot of service announcements of late, but you'd think absolutely none of them have had to do with lobbying from CLE.
  10. Yeah, the amount of legacy power that railroads are entitled to is mind boggling imo.
  11. Seems like the easy solution is to open Superior. Use the Square as designed. While I appreciate Jackson's concern about terrorism, I just don't consider Cleveland as a likely target. Besides, there are a lot more people at other locations where the damage could be greater. If Mayor Jackson is that concerned, then he needs to shut down all traffic on surrounding streets after a Cavs/Indians/Browns game.
  12. Looks like the mayor is refusing to budge. Via FOX8: “We don’t want RTA to be fined. But I don’t want 20, 30, 40, 50 people to be run over by a vehicle in Public Square. I’m not going to acquiesce or agree to something that does not protect the interest of the public. I’m not doing that. And RTA, hopefully, is on the same page,” Jackson said. I don't think the situations are quite the same. The fines at Hopkins were leviied because of safety violations. In this case it isn't a fine, FTA is saying we gave you this money with the stipulation on you doing this. Cleveland didn't, so they want it back. Federal Highway does the same thing.
  13. And RTA has most definitely been harmed. The City clearly breached their own contract. But if the Board is going along with this there's no hope for them to file a lawsuit.
  14. And honestly they should. This has done no damage to the City and harmed RTA throughout ($12 million bill, extra operating costs, $60K study, future grants). I'm glad the FTA is staying tough. But I do find it odd that they came to visit...said there was no news and "work was being done behind the scenes," then this letter just kind of comes out.
  15. Bill Seitz's entire statement was one big oxymora. He acts like fossil fuels already don't receive public subsidy and Trump doesn't want to rescind global free trade. ?
  16. I believe the City owns the building and operates out of a significant portion of it. It could be that MatroHealth wants to expand? Or simply wants their own location.
  17. Has anyone heard about the city turning on the signal prioritization on Euclid? I've noticed the traffic lights doing funky things that leads me to believe that they have.
  18. "Frontier Airlines to resume flights from Cleveland Hopkins to Portland, Seattle, San Francisco, LAX" Frontier is resuming their seasonal non-stop service to west coast and southern cities. The only one that didn't make the cut: Philly. http://www.cleveland.com/travel/index.ssf/2016/12/frontier_airlines_to_resume_fl.html#incart_river_mobileshort_home
  19. I do partly agree with you...but in my opinion it comes down to 3 things to satisfy people right now: - adequate dining options - accessible WiFi - charging stations/outlets That's about it.
  20. KJP[/member], has any more thought been given to Internet Sales Tax that you know of? Colorado's new law was recently uphelp by the Supreme Court. It seems like an idea that might be politically favorable at the moment.
  21. The only thing that irks me out of all of this is that The Dolans decided to renovate Progressive Field completely on their own dime...that should be the precedent that's set now. Everyone seems to overlook that. I realize The Q hosts probably 75% non-basketball games...but it's not like Dan/The Cas aren't making any money off of those either. I wonder if the County negotiated at all? 50/50 usually sounds like a fair split, but in this case it's not.
  22. Yeah, Indianapolis is gorgeous....but Eppley in Omaha being so high? Now that I don't get at all. The only thing they had going for them was the Omaha Steaks stand.
  23. At some point it doesnt matter if you know the snow is coming or not. When we get to 1, 2 and 3 inches per hour...there's nothing you can do about it.
  24. Wonder why they reduced the height? I know when I went to tour Nuevo before it opened, Dick Pace said they had a lot of problems dealing with the FAA. He mentioned it being a struggle getting the volleyball courts and trees approved, so I wouldn't be surprised if that were the reason.
  25. Per Ginger Christ on twitter: "@GCRTA alone is paying $60k for engineering firm helping to find efficiencies re: Public Square for FTA plan."
