  1. If I'm reading the presentation correctly, all $259,000 is due to actual delivery costs...tv ads, radio ads, digital ads & mailers. So I'm not sure they could do what you propose :/ I will say the digital ad costs seem pretty high, but that's not an area I have any knowledge in so it could be appropriate.
  2. I saw this as a promoted tweet...but apparently Cleveland City Council wants to limits the number of days you can utilize home-sharing (e.g. AirBnB) to 90 days total per year, among other things. I wonder why limit it at all? https://act.airbnbaction.com/page/speakout/help-support-home-sharing-in-cleveland?js=false (Also wasn't sure if this was the best thread or not for this....)
  3. I get so frustrated with the airports that only give you 30 free minutes of WiFi. And that's after watching some ad. I think O'Hare and Charlotte are among them :|
  4. Ex-East Cleveland cop sentenced for faking evidence, ripping off drug dealers This excerpt from the article kinda scares me: "Malone was set to be sentenced Monday until the U.S. Marshals found that he had outstanding warrants from Maricopa County, Arizona. Prosecutors and defense attorneys both said they were surprised by the information and were unsure of what the warrants were for." He worked as a cop for E CLE, arrested and charged and STILL no one knew?! http://www.cleveland.com/metro/index.ssf/2016/04/ex-east_cleveland_cop_sentence.html#incart_river_mobileshort_home_pop
  5. Does this also mean there won't be a free July 4th concert? Or will that be on Mall B like last year.
  6. Popped into the Wild Eagle on Saturday night. There was a country cover band playing and the place was PACKED.
  7. Confirmed. I'm not sure that this includes the E105th portion, but definitely the 'new construction' portion. Edit: dang you autocorrect
  8. Police response to alarm at U.S. Senator’s home takes 2 hours http://fox8.com/2016/04/05/police-response-to-alarm-at-u-s-senators-home-takes-2-hours/ This article is interesting for multiple reasons. One thing I think is pertinent that was left out...was whether or not the alarm did end up being false. Also the differences between Zack Reed and Sherrod Brown (local vs seasoned politician). Reed: Senators needs special treatment Brown: I shouldn't be treated different than anyone else, just trying to help.
  9. The City wants to withhold funding unless certain hiring quotas are met. What I found interesting in the article: "Mayor Frank Jackson is getting a little suspicious...the real plan was to build a freeway from highway system to University Circle." "We will construct this project, create economic opportunities for residents in the area and contract with diverse, local contractors. It will be a success with or without the city's promised resources." My thoughts are, Frank...you're not that naive. But second, I've heard rumors that certain contractors as well as certain folks with the State believe the quotas the City is demanding are contrary to Federal Law. http://www.cleveland.com/architecture/index.ssf/2016/04/city_of_cleveland_vows_to_with.html#incart_m-rpt-1
  10. A new article from Ideasream. The court will not force City Council to pursue merger talks because of (what seems to me) a technicality/mishandled paperwork. This is the quote that stands out to me: "East Cleveland City Council, he wrote, can now turn its attention to raising money to hire Conway MacKenzie, a turnaround consulting firm, to evaluate the city" So now they're gonna spend a boatload of money on this, which will probably say the same thing the free* auditor's reports have said. http://www.ideastream.org/news/judge-wont-order-east-cleveland-city-council-to-begin-merger-talks-with-cleveland
  11. Hard to tell from the floor plan, but it may refer to the 'dorm style' living that is becoming more popular. Basically smaller rooms with more common areas where residents are encouraged to hang out and be social rather than holed up in their apartment 24/7.
  12. The Indians announced an 'enhanced ticket exchange policy' that's states: - Attend rescheduled Home Opener on Tuesday, April 5 AND any game of their choice in April or May at Progressive Field - For fans who cannot attend rescheduled Home Opener on Tuesday, April 5: Attend two other games of choice in April or May At least the team is trying to make good on a crappy situation :/

5-ride passes are the way to go. I made the mistake of buying two one-way passes at the front end of my trip...well it expired and the cops at Tower City did not like that. I haven't quite figured out how to validate the 5-trips though...I always play trial and error until it works. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
  14. I don't think driving needs to be made more 'difficult.' But people do need to actually pay for the cost of mode of transportation that they choose. Driving is subsidized in a myriad of ways from parking to gas tax to road construction. If you consider a greater financial burden more difficult than I'm on board. I realize shifting to this would be extremely difficult. In somewhat more practical terms, I do agree with 327[/member]. Be best way to get people to use GCRTA is to make it as convenient and useful as possible.
  15. ^ Ahhhh. I was thinking that was just conjecture at this point. Thanks!
  16. So this is going into the existing apartment building and not the former freestanding Toby Keith's location. Hmm... Isn't that building already partially built?
  17. I was initially against Cleveland annexing ECLE, ever since the rumors of GE Lighting leaving took hold. But what you said makes a lot of sense. Now if only the residents of ECLE could get on board.
  18. Every time I think about the leadership in Cleveland I depress myself :(
  19. The mindset of the taxi companies is to use influence on local government to protect their desired business model and limit competition. Their objective is a captive audience. O'Hare used to be notorious for their strangle hold on cabs into the city. There were cases where drivers (and allegedly even passengers) were jailed for using cabs or limos that were supposed to be "suburban" to get to city destinations. I know that cabs in Chicago have started to use Uber and Lyft...so when your ride shows up, it is a taxi cab. I have no idea how that works I just know it's happening.

As mentioned in the Ohio City thread...this really needs to be examined. I realize the City wants to have some sort of control over the process but seven months vs two weeks is insane. I remember a realtor telling me there are really two types of home buyers; ones who want to find a place asap and ones who have no time table at all. The developer is right, Cleveland is turning away a huge segment of home buyers simply because it takes too long before a shovel can even be put into the ground. Hope someone is listening!
  21. I may be in the minority here, but I do think raising Paratransit fees is appropriate. Almost no other agencies charge the same fee for regular fare and Paratransit fare. It's admirable that RTA has been able to keep it this low this long. Also, I know everyone blames Kasich for the funding situation, but it seems like he's the ONLY one people blame. "Strickland" cut funding while he was in office, and "Kasich's" overall transit funding is higher than Strickland's. I use air quotes because the budget has to go thru the legislature to be passed. Kasich proposed increasing state transit funding (even if it was a measly 1 million), but the general assembly axed it. There is blame abound.

A hybrid council is probably more feasible at this point since it's a 'lesser' change. But what exactly has having councilmen with intimate knowledge of their wards gotten us?
  23. Apparently CLEforTransit is anti waterfront line. Interesting/odd. @CLEforTransit: good! Cut the underused waterfront line! Save busses that are lifelines! @CLEforTransit RT: From Richmond Heights @GCRTA hearing: why eliminate only park&ride on E side but keep waterfront line just for Browns? #NoCutsNoHikes @CLEforTransit RT: If Cleveland Browns need the Waterfront Line, why can't they contribute money to fill @GCRTA budget gaps? #BusLinesAreLifeLines
  24. I really can't get past how ugly the proposed Ameritrust Tower is.
  25. You're right; and that's what scares me about Gilbert. I don't know that I agree with this. Yes, every businessman is out to make money...that's the point. But it doesn't mean there aren't other forces behind that as well. Dan Gilbert can be pointed to for a LOT of the good happening in Detriot. He's responsible for revitalizing large chunks of thier downtown. Recently he lobbied congress to pass a bill fighting urban blight. A lot of what he's done is self serving I'm sure, but he has done a lot of good also.
