  1. Yeah, they're all over budget. The shore way is currently about $62,000, W76 was $230,000 and W73 was 3.8 million!
  2. ^ yeah this is true. Either way, a large national chain would be important (just not my wish ;) ). They say it usually takes one before the rest typically fall in line right?
  3. I'm hoping 'large retailer' means a TargetExpress or something similar. That would really seal the deal downtown in my mind...and selfishly it would make my life so much easier :) The only times I need to venture outside of downtown are if I head to Walmart in Steelyard for some miscellaneous item or I'm clothes shopping. Hope springs eternal...
  4. I obviously don't know the specifics...but wasn't this a just a resurfacing job? How would underground utilities and basements even come into conflict? On a side note, thier traffic control has been god awful. Will be nice to have a pothole free road though :)
  5. ^ makes much more sense.
  6. I have a question with this whole argument. How many of the existing residents are renters in these situations? My point is, homeowners in neighborhoods with gentrification would experience similar positive wealth with their own property value. Unless the vast majority of the existing residents are renters, I don't see all the issues people are mentioning.
  7. Sigh. I've never understood how some Republicans are against tolls. Isn't it conservative mantra to be for direct payment and against subsidization?
  8. Let's also make it clear that Issue 2 does NOT ban monopolies from being in the constitution. What it does would separate the amendment into two issues. So Issue 3 would've become: 1. Do you want legal marijuana? 2. Do you want #1 to be a monopoly.
  9. What really still bothers me is the Statehouse blatantly ignoring ODOT's transit needs study. For all of the griping about ODOT (the vast majority of negatives about the Department are because of political policy decisions), it is a very fact based organization at most levels. Most people would argue its partial to road projects by looking at the funding. So for the Statehouse to pretend the study doesn't exist is infuriating frankly. Not to mention it not only shows the needs of large cities but transit for small towns (elderly and poor) who also have no other means of travel. It seems most likely that this study will get buried unfortunately :|
  10. ^agreed. That's some of the reason that have allowed Columbus to remain a growing City. Since they were basically able to extort unincorporated areas into becoming part of the City, they're the closest thing Ohio has to a City-County. I won't mention that their Council happens to be 1000% better than CLE's ;)
  11. I HATE these machines. Both themselves and the tickets they give are terrible. Since they've shortened the number of buttons you need to press to buy a ticket things have gotten better but still a far cry from other agencies. What really grinds my gears is at Tower City how the passes swipe. The arrow needs to point away from the direction you're swiping! Who came up with that?! I've never met someone who gets it right the first time.
  12. When she's dealing with other agencies within government I'm sure she's great. But if she ever tried to appeal to the public no one would care because they've never heard of her before. When Frank Jackson holds a press conference, people listen whether they agree or not. He may care profoundly, and I think he needs to share that publicly. Politicians can be hard heads though.
  13. The amount of poor and ultimately destructive political decisions made in Cleveland the past 30+ years is pretty upsetting. Unfortunately I'm not convinced the leadership the City needs exists yet. Maybe I'm not giving them enough credit but revitalization seems to be happening in spite of City Hall, not because of it. Now with transit there is another opportunity for them to step up or sit back.
  14. Speaking of State funding...has there been any discussion whatsoever on LakeTran's proposal? I know State legislators wouldn't take up the cause but have any other groups even mentioned it? The idea seemed to blow away in the wind.
  15. Does anyone else question the Cleveland Pickle thing? It's basically a lunch only place (open 11-4) and it's going to either move from 9th/Euclid or open a new spot all the way down on the lakefront? Don't get me wrong I know they want foot traffic there but getting a big lunch crowd seems like a pipe dream. But! I live downtown and don't work there so maybe I'm wrong....
  16. Unfortunately none of the proposals are perfect (surprise) so you have to pick your poison. The other marijuana amendments that are listed in the SOS's website are vastly different. The problem I have is that while the other proposals don't promote a 'monopoly' they also aren't well thought out at all. Which for all the bad to be said about issue 3, it is very detailed. Also, can we please dispel the myth that marijuana being illegal in Ohio is encarcerating mass amounts of people? Since the 1990's, the max penalty for possession of a massive amount of weed is a $100 fine. It's been decriminalized for 20 years.
  17. I doubt the State would be making things difficult by choice. But once you involve multiple levels of government, and on top of that multiple departments and agencies within those governments....it simply gets caught up in the slow moving bureaucratic mess. :/
  18. ^ Ahhhh! That sounds like an escape room. I've never done it, but if I understand it correctly you and a group of people are basically locked in a room (there are differing themes and difficulties) and have to use skills of observance, critical thinking and resourcefulness to get out. Within a certain time of course. Had no idea Cleveland was getting one!
  19. Would the multi-modal station likely divert much bus traffic from Public Square to here? I know there are pros/cons with each...
  20. The name can't be worse than 'Sphere'....I hope.
  21. I don't actually think it's red brick, I believe it's tan brick (the same as was used at The Corner) they are going to use. The renderings are poor, but they state using the same materials as in 'Phase I.' I'm curious what is going on with the top row of boxes/radio row...were they simply lazy or are they actually going to wall the entire thing off?? Dear god I hope not the second option.
  22. Yup, it's a new(ish) RadAir. They've been pretty accommodating schedule wise the couple times I've been there.
  23. Does anyone know if the city still plans on utilizing 9th as a 'Festival' pier? That was in the lakefront plan not too long ago.

Not sure if anyone saw this, but ODOT released the final report of the "Transit Needs Study." The ultimate recommendation from it is to increase state funding to 10% of total budgets. Also to explore a dedicated funding source. http://www.dot.state.oh.us/Divisions/Planning/Transit/Pages/default.aspx
  25. ^^ you don't want ODOT to deconstruct the road from a freeway to a 35-mph boulevard?? That would actually support what people are wanting to do here...getting rid of the Main Avenue bridge. That said; getting rid of the bridge would cause a whole host of problems. First, I think people greatly underestimate the cost of demolition. The state would not demolish that bridge unless it was unsalvagable. Then come the route upgrades to connect the boulevard adequately with Detriot Ave. Then what do you do with the section of shoreway downtown? Restrict traffic to eastbound only? Spend money to reroute traffic westbound to Superior Ave? I could come up with more logistical issues that would in turn cost $$$. These questions might arise one day when looking at the structure and the ONLY option is demolition, but until then nothing proactive is going to happen. The powers at be will point to Captain America closures as evidence.
