  1. It’s where pedestrians get the walk signal for a few seconds before motorists get a green light. It gives pedestrians a chance to step off of the curb and be in the intersection which makes turning conflicts safer.
  2. I’m going to stop opining about costs because honestly, I don’t know lol. But while going down this rabbit hole, I found these fantastic reports from PMG during Kansas City’s build. If we get something like this I’ll be very pleased. https://www.buildkci.com/pmg-executive-reports/
  3. I work in the highway industry, and planning and design for mega-projects is in the single millions. So I can’t possibly imagine that’s all $175 million will get. EDIT: Trying not to get too off topic here…but I looked into Brent Spence for a comparison (at least dollar wise) and engineering costs are estimated at over $400 million 💀 The upcoming I-90 reconstruction design costs are about $12 million.
  4. I think the goal is to complete detailed design this year, and start construction in 2025. What exactly the scope of the work will be (PAL 1.5, 2, other) I’m not sure. Someone correct me if I’m wrong. Edit: The above was based on previous interviews with the Airport Director. I just read the news release and honestly I have more questions than answers now…
  5. After seeing the fantastic looking terminal renderings for PIT and CMH (and other new ones all the way back to IND in 2008), I hope that Hopkins can reach that level of design. Looking forward to seeing the designs🤞🏼
  6. We all hate a premature cork popping.
  7. The automatic response really is to just be against anything but the status quo, huh. Also…I get tired of Clevelanders acting like they’re under house arrest in the wintertime. If this city would learn to embrace these months everyone would be a lot happier.
  8. Former Statler residents unite! I’m not sure if the finishes across the types of units will be the same, but I very much prefer the look and style of the studio kitchen vs the one bedroom in those pictures.
  9. Exactly. And the block club only had 20-25 people voting in an area that has to have ten times that many people living in its boundaries.
  10. Don’t worry, after all this they voted it down. I hate my block club 😒
  11. This is a bit convoluted and I’m having a hard time finding specific answers, but to boil it all down: The City is on the hook for $10-15 million. Cleveland could, if they wanted, fill that funding gap with City funds, but they are trying to fill that gap with federal and/or state grants (which is typical with Cleveland).
  12. Wow, that’s a lot of seasonal routes on that map.
  13. I think that’s about right. All of the federal funding appears to be in place, but roughly $10 million in local funds are required. How much of that Cleveland has or hasn’t figured out is unclear to me.
  14. Taking CVSR to Blossom for a country concert might end up being like the Rapid on St Patrick’s day 😆
  15. Found this in my email this morning from Fodors. Nothing new here, but a nice write-up nonetheless. https://www.fodors.com/world/north-america/usa/ohio/cleveland/experiences/news/why-is-cleveland-ohio-such-an-overlooked-city
  16. Agreed. Try this in Chicago and you’ll have a cop screaming at you quicker than you can say Lou Malnati.
  17. Some of y'all are acting shocked that US corporations are putting profit and shareholder interests first…
  18. The Regis and Kelly of Cleveland news!
  19. It’s bonkers that right now you can’t take a train from Cleveland to Toronto.
  20. There were major design problems that have led to sever cracking in the deck. The city and the design firm are in dispute right now, and I wouldn’t be surprised if it resulted in a lawsuit.
  21. From a PD interview with the new Port Director in September: If all goes according to plan, the airport is expected to hire a design firm in 2024 to start formalizing plans for the new terminal, with construction starting in 2025 – the centennial anniversary of Cleveland Hopkins, which opened in 1925 as the first city-owned airport in the United States. https://www.cleveland.com/travel/2023/09/better-days-are-coming-new-cleveland-hopkins-chief-offers-update-on-plans-for-new-terminal-parking-crunch-burke-and-more.html?outputType=amp
  22. The goal is to make it as least disruptive as possible, but unfortunately the weather this week kind of hemmed in possible times. There will be a few more intermittent closures up until Thanksgiving to get everything completely finished up.
  23. As frustrating as it can be, would you rather have it stay closed or be open when it’s able to be with off-peak closures?
  24. The closure begins at 7pm, so you should be ok. It will reopen at 6am both nights.
  25. What time will you be going? The bridge is slated to be closed the next two overnights to begin some repairs to the steel underneath the deck. I’ll have more details in a bit…
