Did a little traveling around the state this year, often with our friend ColDayMan. Cincinnati. So good it's worth going into another state to get a view. 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 Cleveland. Can't wait to return to this place. Well, maybe I can wait until spring. 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 Columbus. The heart of "The Heart Of It All" 21 22 23 24 25 Dayton, the Gem City. I live here. 26 27 28 29 30 31 And I was just in Akron for a little bit, but the time was right... 32 Let's do more of this in 2016.   3. I'm thinking Springfield needs a little exposure soon, and I'm thinking that might be where I go when we get our first good snow. Most of this was shot in the summer and I've only gotten around to posting sets. Have not done enough of this lately.

  5. Didn't do as much photography as I'd have liked in 2015, but Ohio is home now and Dayton is where I live. It's been here awhile. I figure it'll be around a little longer.   7. ^Some fine examples of quality Indy infill. Lots of it is good. IAGuy - definitely. That midtown area seems like it had been a bit rundown but is transitioning. Go north on Meridian from Broad Ripple and you will get to Meridian Hills, which has a little terrain to break up the otherwise flatness of the area. Feels a lot like over here in Dayton where I am.
  8. ColDayMan and I went to Broad Ripple but it was dark (these short winter days) and I didn't take the camera out over there. It's a priority for my next Indy visit. Would like to explore more outside downtown next run. There, then maybe Irvington and 10th Street area near the Rivoli Theater where it looks like it's making a positive transition. Spring would be a good time to hit up Woodruff Place nearby too. Woodruff Place reminds me some of Boulevard Oaks in Houston. But with roundabouts and fountains, which would be working in spring with the trees turning and so forth. That would make a nice photo tour.

    http://www.bizjournals.com/dayton/news/2014/08/12/mayor-forms-task-force-for-arcade.html It needs a lot of TLC and its owners are behind $200K in property taxes. But it doesn't seem to be in imminent danger of being demo'd. Its future would be helped if downtown was a residential and shopping hub again. Then it's a matter of restoring the complex to be what it was originally designed to be.

    Thanks. Since I'm new around here, I'm always interested to know what the buildings are where it's not obvious. I read that the Biltmore building is apartments for senior citizens. Maybe I can move in 25 years from now. Downtown Dayton would get a boost for more/improved everyday amenities for residents. A modern, urban-style Kroger along the lines of the one on High Street in Columbus' Short North would go a long way to fill a need. There are places one could go.

    That's the Oregon District. Just southeast of downtown. Part of when ColDayMan showed me around town. I'll probably go back and cover it at length on my next Dayton run. The rest is downtown, then a little quick journey out onto the Stewart Street bridge near UD. The Welcome Stadium parking lot was open and I just put the car there. But didn't wander too far because I wasn't sure if that was actually OK.

    Yes, the rink and that entire Five Points park was pretty packed actually. It was yesterday (Saturday), all the offices downtown are closed and it's cold and very windy. I wasn't going out of my way to photograph people on this run in any case. This was my first time actually walking the streets of Dayton and it was as much looking around for my own good as it was to produce these. We'll certainly do it again. I certainly see a lot of potential. Inner Dayton needs some newer housing stock and there are places for it. I'm for preserving what can be, to be sure. Some of it is beyond repair. ColDayMan drove me around some neighborhoods I haven't been around with the camera just yet. It's pretty striking to see a well-kept neighborhood for a few blocks, then turn a corner and "mini-Detroit" appears. I get the feeling this city has seen its worst days and is on the way up, steadily. My dad's family has roots over here. Regardless of whether my longterm future keeps me around, I'll always root for Dayton.
