I used to live in Indian Hill, and all my mail said Cincinnati OH 45243. If it's a post office thing, then that's probably one of the reasons the taxes were so low; we didn't have to pay for mail sorting and all that! :-P My parents, who still live there, get mad and confused when I tell them they don't live in Cincinnati. (For all the reasons enumerated above: taxes, elections, etc.) I remember my Dad signed the "save the streetcar" ballot in December 2013 and was disappointed when I told him that his signature wouldn't count because he didn't live in the city.

Gah! Can't they at least say "Greater" Cincinnati!?! Calling Liberty Township "Cincinnati" is both factually inaccurate and offensive. That is one of my biggest annoyances with the Biz Courier. Most of their headlines that say "Cincinnati" involve something that isn't in Cincinnati. I have a friend from Rhode Island who just the other day was commenting on how strange it is that everywhere is "Cincinnati," at least in so a far as mailing addresses go. He was surprised that the townships could get away with that.

It's the same thing for every "big event": Opening Day, Oktoberfest, Taste, now the ASG. The Enq. freaks out about people not being able to park and roll 10 feet to where they want to go. Plus they act like something like this has never happened before. I'm for giving Cincinnatians the benefit of the doubt that we know what the hell we're doing. We've been around for a while, and can be expected to act like grown ups.

^^ yeah seattle is much the same. Taut double wires everywhere. Weird at first but then you get used to it. I'm finding it amusing that Main is being painted right now, when it will just get torn up in a couple weeks so new pavement can go down. Wouldn't it be great if the local rag ran a piece on this? Except that they'd somehow manage to make it look like Deatrik and co's fault, rather than rightly blaming it on the drivers who can't figure out how to drive down a one-way street. still, it's a shame, because it is a total waste of money.

For a paper that is patently pro-republican, it curiously expects the city to micromanage its citizens' lives: the example here being the hand-holding over how to park downtown with so many visitors in town. Of course, there is an expectation that everyone will drive to downtown; metro is only tangentially mentioned for the free shuttle it is running between Fountain square and Washington Park. (hey enquirer, remember when you complained that the streetcar would be barely faster than walking?) An honest assessment of the expected traffic snarl would be this: Hey Cincinnati, there are going to be a lot of people in the downtown area for the next week, especially over the weekend. If you're looking for the best way to get down and enjoy the events, we suggest taking the bus. Use google maps to plot your route. The app, Transit, is also great for giving live updates on when the bus will arrive at a particular stop. Using the bus will save you parking money (which the law of supply and demand says will skyrocket in cost), and save you time because you won't have to look for a spot. Plus you won't have to worry about drinking and driving. If you insist on driving -- which we really don't recommend -- then get there early, and consider parking a couple blocks from your destination. Otherwise, put up with the extreme hassle and don't say we didn't tell you so.

It was totally out-of-control today. Scott Sloan blamed the incident on Mark Mallory -- that for years we were "wasting time on flower pots and the City Hall atrium when we should have been focused on safety". clearly the only solution is to STOP EVERYTHING until the moms in west chester and florence give the city the green light that they feel safe. so cancel the streetcar. cancel the MLK interchange. cancel wasson way. cancel shows at the incline theater. cancel laying sod at smale. no more Reds games. STOP EVERYTHING. in other news: I literally saw nursing mothers at picnics underneath the suspension bridge during lunch today. And the sidewalks could do with widening to accommodate all the strollers.

Huh. I didn't hear anything about this. Spent this evening watching the soccer game at Fountain Square and spent a while Saturday night at Washington Park groovin with the Deadheads. Both full of people but no problems at all. Can't wait to hear what the co workers from the burbs have to say tomorrow.

Different topic, but what's up with the power wire pole in the middle of the sidewalk at the corner of Main and 12th? 10 feet away they bumped out the sidewalk to make room for the poles around the curve. But then they placed one in the middle of the sidewalk!

True, but it we could re-establish the missing streets and then fill in the new spaces with these elements, that would be my preferred solution. This idea is so much more elegant and simple. If the desired (and needed) recreation aspects could be integrated this would be a much more cohesive design than anything yet proposed. I also kinda like how Zeigler would then orient East-West, while Washington run North-South.

It doesn't make sense for the crossing to be near the bridge, irrespective of the fact that the road dips down two feet. The crosswalks would make the most sense to line up with the vine st and walnut st steps, which also lines up with walkways in the southern part of the park. As they stand now, the crosswalks are 15 to 20 feet away from a direct line with the steps. The traffic is usually light, I agree, which means that it's definitely not obeying the 25mph speed limit.

I listened to the whole podcast (very interesting and informative) but I wish that the speakers had gone in to when they expect to start making a profit. The answer to that question might matter more than how much it will cost to rehab a building, though obviously they are tied together.

This whole garage thing is really making me mad. $24K for bus shelters for a whole neighborhood is a "pet project," but $6 million to one developer makes financial sense? If the democrats on council are willing to spend money, at least they don't seem to discriminate. Whether you have a bleeding heart or are a big name developer, you'll get money from them. Republicans on council on the other hand only seem willing to make the rich richer, and give money to people that don't need it. it's such joke. This ONE deal is double the amount that the democrats wanted to shift around in the budget last week, and you'd think the sky was falling after listening to the republicans and our sorry excuse for a newspaper. I'l bet another 6 million that we don't hear a peep about this deal. my city is screwed. we've done nothing for the last 60 years but build auto-oriented developments. If, despite our dedication, we aren't flush with cash by now, then MAYBE WE SHOULD DO SOMETHING DIFFERENT.

fair fair, you're right it does cross the street. memory lapse on my part. I didn't mean "bridge" in the literal sense, though technically the suspension bridge connects the two sides. :wink: And I do hate that the cross walks are not centered with the walnut and vine street steps.

^ even funnier if you come down race and look at the backside of it. in a separate note, i'm kinda surprised that the next phase of the banks to go up will be between vine and race. Why not west of race along 2nd? what are the plans for that pad?

God I really hope they don't get rid of that building (on the corner of broadway and 4th). it's so unique and interesting; definitely one of my favorite downtown. Didn't someone on this thread or another mention the idea of building on top of the existing structure? I honestly like all of the W&S buildings along 4th st. I cut through the alley between them and the Residence inn to go north after work and the parking lot on the south side of 5th street is more than large enough to place a good sized building on.
