Cincinnati: CUF / Corryville: Development and News
There's no way that building is within zoning height limits, is there?

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
Happy to report that there were no cars in the transit only line on 2nd Street after the Reds game today.

I scratched my head at that one, too. I get being weirded out by a proposal for a pink toothpick building or something, but at the same time, why not? it would be totally different and generate some good press, not to mention push the architectural conversation envelope in the city.

As the Mayor would say, "beggars can't be choosers." It's too bad we don't build like we used to in Cincinnati: http://www.cincinnatimagazine.com/citywiseblog/cincinnati-curiosities-illustrated-cincinnati/

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
I agree, a would worry about a side-swipe, but maybe one on the walnut street overpass would be ok since the prior intersection is a right turn only lane.

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
It would be a great idea for metro to park a streetcar at those two locations for Opening Day. Cars can't use the lanes anyways, so might as well showcase the region's first rail transportation in 65 years!

Northeast Ohio: Regionalism News & Discussion
i'm not from the area at all, but the article makes EC sound like a sieve with ever-widening holes. Why would Cleveland want to take that one? $10 million (once) and a slight bump in population? Seems like a raw deal for a city that isn't exactly swimming in cash.

How big of an area is the construction staging space? Would be neat to have a tasteful building occupy such a prominent spot

^ yes it's striped like the restricted lanes on Main

Cincinnati: Mayor John Cranley
I chuckled and imagined the first draft of that article saying "Chris Smitherman, Republican Independent."

Cincinnati: Downtown: The Blonde (Eighth & Main)
I'm actually happy about that. I'd like to see more buildings rather than big block-spanning behemoths a la dunnhumby. Much more interesting.

jmicha[/member] how many spaces are in the existing garage?

Cincinnati: Downtown: Fourth & Race (Pogue Garage) Redevelopment
Interesting that the city is touting a private to public investment ratio of 4:1. If you're a follower of Strong Towns, you might remember them writing a piece about this exact issue, and recommending a ratio of 20:1 as the *low* end. http://www.strongtowns.org/journal/2015/12/16/best-of-2015-density-question

Cincinnati: Downtown: Fourth & Race (Pogue Garage) Redevelopment
I wonder how long it would take to drive into the new garage, drive up 8 levels, park, and then ride the elevator back down. Seems fairly exhausting to me.

I'd say that here, like in most cases, perception matters more than reality. Few know about the under-the-overpass pedestrian connection to Lytle park. The highway is a big psychological barrier, and is unpleasant to walk under / around.

To be fair, they are very different. Now, Cranley would have less wiggle room is a serious discussion evolved regarding boring a tunnel under Mt Auburn to create a 1 or 2-stop connection to UC. That would be much more similar to a traditional subway experience, like in Boston.

A north-south orientation maximizes the number of units with direct light, too.

jmicha[/member] thanks for making those renderings. In my head I had figured that the building would front EPRW, with the garage moving toward the river and a large deck on top of the garage or something. It's worth noting that the land really angles down from the road to the park, which means that hopefully the parking structure can be built partially underground. I'm also curious to discover what the entire site plan will look like re continuing parking for the workers who use that lot for the red brick building next door.

Cincinnati: Downtown: The Artistry
The 7 minute time is via Eggleston, which is what I take. *I* agree that it is very doable, as is the walk to the southernmost streetcar stop. However, I have a hard time convincing coworkers right now to walk to Fountain Square. I hope I'm wrong, but I see this development as being more of an island unto itself.
