Cleveland: Downtown: Sherwin-Williams Headquarters
@CleveFanthat’s exactly why I love that view. The density, and diversity of architecture is striking. I only wish I had better light.

Cleveland Water Cam shot from this afternoon… SW Headquarters adds much needed balance and density to the skyline from this angle.

@DO_Summers,although I am not a structural engineer, or architect, I believe you are correct about the lack of structural support responsibilities on the north and south elevations. Additionally, this allows the cutouts on the northwest and southeast corners to remain uninterrupted. The result from a design and contextual perspective is two-fold: One, it allows visual connectivity with the other structures around the square and the warehouse district as they are at the same relative height. For example, looking west down Euclid, the columns on the East elevation identifies the approximate height of the of the buildings around the Square as well as those along Euclid Avenue. Two, looking closely at @Silent Matt’s photo you will notice that, from a pedestrian perspective looking northeast, the uninterrupted cutout on the southeast corner allows perfect visual connectivity to the setbacks of Key Tower. I’m guessing that when the SW Tower is viewed at pedestrian level from the northwest, the same visual interaction will occur when looking beyond the cutout on the northwest corner to the setbacks of Terminal Tower. The cutouts also breaks up the mass of this hulking building, making it less intimidating and far more interesting. Well conceived contextual design.

Cleveland: Lakefront Development and News
Agreed, @cadmen. I fell in love with Toronto and its lakefront the first time I visited in the mid 1980s. Its a very walkable lakefront with plenty to do.

Cleveland: Downtown: Sherwin-Williams Headquarters
My wife showed me this very timely Facebook post from Lance Aerial Media of North Ridgeville. I had to share it with you all, just in case you hadn’t already seen it… https://www.facebook.com/share/p/h5hkW5xSmeT3kA8r/?mibextid=K8Wfd2 Some of these guys on the SS Wilfred Sykes freighter may be working on it past Christmas, but they still put a tree up and decorate inside and out. There’s even a Santa up in the Watch Tower @ss_wilfred_sykes Taken last night 12/5/23 on the Cuyahoga River in Cleveland

Cleveland: Downtown: Sherwin-Williams Headquarters
If you remember, the Hilton has an angled top not unlike what is being installed on the SHW tower. The angular top of the Hilton was assembled elsewhere and then lowered into place atop the building via helicopter. Maybe they will do the same thing here. In which case, the topping out would occur-as you suggested-at the completion of the superstructure. Jumping on the guessing wagon with Paul. Rendering posted by @Mendo11/13/23 seems to suggest that the top is a separate structure.

I hear you, and agree with both of your arguments. To the argument for height, adding Key Tower, 200 Public Square and now the SW HQ complex and the anticipated spinoff additions from SW will add both height and density. All remaining surface lots will be filled with low to medium height housing or offices within the next decade if we are lucky. Then, you will have a dense skyline that gradually rises from the river to the top of Key Tower creating a very impressive sight as you approach the city. Even then, you will still have gaps when viewed from afar because of Public Square and the civic building just beyond it. It will still be a very impressive skyline.

Cleveland: Flats East Bank
@MyPhoneDead, at first glance , I was also in the same boat with you. After giving it more thought, I think this little amphitheater/stage could have a two-fold impact… 1). A venue dedicated to music and theatre along the boardwalk will increase foot traffic, encourage a lively atmosphere and create a popular meeting-up spot. 2). From the river and the West Bank, this structure becomes a highly visible landmark that, along with the performances could become a beacon that encourages traffic movement between the two banks of the river. Just a guess.

Cleveland: Ohio City: Irishtown Bend Park
No worries. It was my mistake in the beginning. I fully agree with you. By the way, I love public art- or art in any form. I am a practicing professional artist with local and national presence as well as a professor of art.

Cleveland: Ohio City: Irishtown Bend Park
I agree, @CleveFan . I believe this new park, offering beautiful views of the river and city, will move the needle forward toward establishing a far more positive narrative for the city. Visitors will see Cleveland as a rust belt city that has successfully remade itself into a beautiful mixture of old and new architecture and a positive vibe that’s infectious. Hopefully, by then there will be new cranes in the sky, including across the river at Tower City/Bedrock.

Agreed. By letting the pedestrian see them in a completely different way, the reflective glass helps the tower pay homage to all of the historic structures in Public Square, especially Terminal Tower. Its position at the terminus of Euclid Avenue draws your attention as you travel west and really makes a strong visual statement on the Square. It will be even more impactful when completed and lighted at night.

Cleveland: University Circle (General): Development and News
Having gone to College on that campus, and spent many days (and some Friday nights) walking through and around Hessler Street, I would have to agree with you, @cadmen. It’s a very appropriate modern fit. However, if you were to ask one of those who opposed the development one simple question: “After seeing the development in its finished form, do you feel your original opposition to the development was a mistake”. Their answer is likely to be, (in the words of Violet from Downton Abbey)… “MISTAKE? I wouldn’t know. I’m not familiar with the sensation”

Cleveland: Downtown: Skyline 776 (City Club Apartments)
@dave2017, I believe the final cladding will be just as it’s shown on the rendering- A seemingly random combination on pale purple with dark blue accent panels mixed in. It should be very interesting and eye catching.

Cleveland: Ohio City: Irishtown Bend Park
@ragarcia, I agree with the first two of your “squint-eyed” suggestions, but wholeheartedly disagree with the third. Where else can a park goer sit down to take a break, people-watch and get a spectacularly unobstructed view of the skyline? These will be immensely more popular than the Solstice Steps in Lakewood, for locals and tourists alike.
