Cleveland: Public Square Redesign
I agree with you, Punch. I think the redesigned Public Square, like Jacobs Field offers great urban design and quality execution. Like The Jake, it will offer fresh vistas of the city from a space that is designed to enhance pedestrian enjoyment of the surrounding city. This will be the kind of public space that has the ability to elevate Clevelanders' image of their hometown while encouraging additional private investment in the urban core. In short, this is a game-changer.

Cleveland: Downtown: Euclid & 9th Tower / Schofield Building Redevelopment
I know that everyone who frequents this thread share my sigh of relief when you consider that the corner of east 9th and Euclid could have been considerably different today. Thie beautiful Schofield building, a true architectural icon from the glory days of Cleveland's past has been restored and repurposed, promising to contribute significantly to the city's future. Meanwhile, across the street-on both sides-the Bruer Tower (which we almost lost to a KPF creation) is now part of a fantastic mixed-use redevelopment highlighted by the most spectacular supermarket/cafe to be found anywhere and a redevelopment of the Huntington Building is transforming it into a spectacular mixed-use gem. I think this intersection speaks well of the renewed energy and sense of pride that has taken hold of this city. Ever time I pass through the Nine-Twelve neighborhood I am thrilled at the realization that we no longer feel we need to destroy the greatness of the past to build a bright future.

Cleveland: Which Project Will Be Next and Why
Both yours and W28's renderings are well done though, SizzlinBeef. It gives us a lot to dream about. Thank you.

Cleveland: Which Project Will Be Next and Why
I like the way you think STRIVE2THRIVE, but that would be quite an undertaking. I have considered taking the NuCLEus skyline rendering into Photoshop to do just that, but was scared off by the time commitment. A view of this proposed skyline from Innerbelt bridge would be impressive though.

Cleveland: Which Project Will Be Next and Why
Thank you all for the updates. It's great to see so much excitement about what's happening downtown. My wish is that the new towers will continue the recent trend of architectural excellence and distinction we see in the Key Tower, Hilton Cleveland and nuCLEus. It is nice to see so many proposals of significant size. Hopefully most, if not all, will happen.

Cleveland: Downtown: Hilton Cleveland
I love driving in to work at the crack of dawn and exiting at E. 9th street. From that vantage point you can enjoy how the new Hilton reflects the infinite variations in the color of the early morning light. I think this is a truly beautiful building--more like a monumental sculpture.

Cleveland: Downtown: Hilton Cleveland
Thanks for the photos Mendo. I have to tell you, as an artist I am loving this building. It reflects the infinite variety of the light and color of Cleveland with such drama. Each day, and every angle is different. Check out the Oct. 16th still shots from camera 3 from 8:30-11:30.

Cleveland: Downtown: Hilton Cleveland
I agree with you Larry. I am not an architect either, but I am a professional visual artist and designer with an eye for good architecture. And, in my opinion, when completed this building will represent excellent architecture, and almost sculptural design. The reflective glass curtains wall makes it appear interesting from different angles depending on the vantage point of the viewer and the color and quality of light being reflected in its glass skin. It is far from boxy, even at this unfinished stage.

Cleveland: Downtown: Hilton Cleveland
It looks to me like they are working in and around the SkyBar area. The roof area of the bar they seem to be erecting now will become the platform structure on which the angled roof section will sit--this is only my guess from analyzing the illustrations of the most recent design. It is very interesting to witness the emergence of the SkyBar though, isn't it? This building will be a very nice addition to the Cleveland skyline.

Very funny, JG! Now every time I look at the Fountain of Eternal Life I'll have to laugh at your observation.

Cleveland: Downtown: nuCLEus
Thank you all for your feedback and insights. I asked the question because I'd heard nothing since the Benesch lease was announced. I know Mr. Stark envisions nuCLEus as catalytic and critical to the next level of downtown's emergence as a great place to live and work--and I agree. I can think of only two previous occasions that a project has had this kind of potential to so profoundly elevate downtown Cleveland, and for various reasons, neither came to fruition. Those projects were the Progressive Headquarters tower on the lakefront and the Ameritrust Center on Public Square. The nuCLEus development might convince other developers that a mixed use investment of this quality and scale can be done in Cleveland. Selfishly speaking, I also think it will shut up the naysayers. I am convinced Mr. Stark will pull this off in grand fashion.

Cleveland: Downtown: nuCLEus
Agreed. I didn't believe Starks construction and completion projections for a second. But I did expect that once he engaged NBBJ as his design architect he would take advantage of the visual momentum created by the design process for marketing purposes.

Cleveland: Downtown: nuCLEus
Thank you Klingaling87. Selelection for a CM does show positive movement. But if it were me, I would want to keep the spotlight on the project with exciting updated designs, taking advantage of the inevitable attention on the city due to the approaching RNC. This could assist in his efforts to land national retail tenants and prelease his office space--ultimately securing any financing he needs.

Cleveland: Downtown: nuCLEus
Is anyone at all concerned that this great project may be dying quietly? Given the urgency Stark showed in the early stages of development, I would have expected to see more news--certainly updated designs by now to keep his marketing momentum going at full speed. Has anyone heard or seen anything? Any thoughts?

I agree with you Paul. It's a great study in shape, texture an reflectivity. These are fantastic pics!

Cleveland: Downtown: Hilton Cleveland
OUTSTANDING, KJP! Perfect visual metaphor!
-
Cleveland: Downtown: Hilton Cleveland
Agreed jborger. The heavy concrete, Brutalist design of the Justice Center seems to assault the senses when compared to the light, glassy design of the Hilton.
-
Cleveland: Downtown: Hilton Cleveland
KJP, have they raised the height of the Hilton? The height of the Justice Center is 420', and the Hilton is projected at 374'. In this case, is the 374' a reference only to the central structure that contains the rooms and excludes the uppermost part of the tilted top that appears to have no functional space? If so, this might account for the additional height beyond the published height of 374'. Any thoughts?

Cleveland: Downtown: Hilton Cleveland
Really great pics! It's really interesting to see the sculptural form of this building take shape as the curtain wall is applied.

Cleveland: Downtown: Hilton Cleveland
I agree urbanpreppie05. I think it will be an interesting addition no matter the angle of your view. It appears the architects really took to heart the importance of contextual design on such an important site. I think this is without question CooperCarry's best hotel design.

So sorry about that. I will figure it out and try to re-post the images

I really like the urban density I see developing on the skyline from an increasing number of waterfront vantage points. Here are a couple shots I took this morning from FWB...

Thanks for the pics, KJP. Very nice.

Awesome shot from a fresh vantage point, MayDay!

Don't you wish Turner had a Webcam at this, more pedestrian oriented angle? It offers a very impressive view of the skyline and the Mall. Hmmm... Hey, KJP, how about a shot per day from this exact same spot?! Just kiddingly--though it would be nice.
