  8. Its good to see more elected officials advocating for the beneficial role Amtrak can (and does) play in rural communities. 10. Garfield Heights site on Cuyahoga County’s ‘short list’ for new jail location, sources say Kaitlin Durbin - Apr. 13, 2023 - Cleveland.com "Multiple sources familiar with planning have confirmed to cleveland.com and The Plain Dealer that the site at Granger Road and Transportation Boulevard is among the main contenders being vetted to house a new county jail. It’s not clear how many other sites are on that list. Sources have said there is at least one other property inside Cleveland city limits that is also being seriously discussed. ... The parcels that make up the Garfield Heights site total 72 acres. Officials have indicated they’re interested in carving out at least 40.4 of those acres for the jail, which would move the facility 16 minutes outside of downtown Cleveland."
  11. Cleveland proposes North Coast Development Authority with power to realize big lakefront dreams Steven Litt - Apr. 13, 2023 - Cleveland.com "On Monday April 24, Mayor Justin Bibb plans to introduce legislation to City Council to create a North Coast Development Authority empowered to raise hundreds of millions of dollars in private capital and government grants to shepherd big, complex projects to fruition across election cycles and administrations. ... The authority would be a new political subdivision with the power to levy and collect taxes within a defined area, including taxes on parking, and retail items, Epstein said. ... The development authority proposed by the city would have a hybrid structure combining a private, nonprofit 501 c(3) development corporation, plus a New Community Authority, an organization enabled under Ohio law to oversee, build, and finance public infrastructure and community facilities."
  12. I walked by the development last weekend and was pleasantly surprised by the newer units. The added height and brick facade are a significant upgrade over most of the units in earlier phases. We need more townhomes of this caliber throughout the city.
  13. View from opening day and from (4-10-23)
  14. (4-10-23) Just barley high enough to be visible from the Jake. Looking forward to the view by October. View from Superior
  15. With the site prep underway the cleared lots look massive from the Lorain-Carnegie (3-4-22) From The Rapid
  16. What an utter disappointment. I've been to a lot of sporting events over the years, but I've rarely seen people this angry. It's amazing that so many people signed off on a 1pm start time. In no world should a 1pm start time be approved for an uncovered outdoor rink. You could maybe get away with that early of a start time in January or early February, but not this late into the winter. Sun was in the forecast for awhile - they should've made the call earlier in the week, or even earlier on Saturday. But no, they waited for thousands of people to drive down, walk to the stadium, buy concessions, and wait for ~1/2 an hour in the stadium before they made the call and brought the tarp out. Even after the postponement, there were multiple delays for ice repair in the same exact place as the OSU game. Once underway, it was a god game with a very unique and enjoyable atmosphere. A sizeable portion of fans understandably didn't return after the postponement (including many who made the drive from Columbus and PA), but there was still a good crowd that stayed all the way to overtime, some 9 hours after the scheduled start time. 3rd Highest attended AHL game of all time Monsters get the OT win - now 4 points out of a playoff spot 3/4 into the season Brett Gallant's 300th game with the Monsters - (after the Love buyout Brett is the last professional athlete playing in Cleveland who has won a championship here)
  17. Abbey Avenue Apartments (3-4-23) West 20th and Smith Townhomes Piatak Place Residences West Nineteen Townhomes Waterford Bluffs - The finished product looks better than I thought it would, definitely one of the best looking 4-over-1s in the city
  18. Crane 2 (3-4-23) From the west From FES Sherwin Williams and City Club buildings are now both visible from Lorain-Carnegie
  19. The geometry of the area can make it a little tricky to find a vantage point with them together. The best view of them both is either from Crawford at Euclid and MLK or the Lagoon. Here are a few of my favorite shots with them both from the past year.
  20. I'm crossing my fingers it's this, but based on the Twitter interactions, seems much more likely Jimmy Haslam is going to torpedo lakefront plans, or ask the city to give him two billion dollars, or move the stadium to Berea or some bull**** like that... lol yes - always underestimate the Haslam's Help Cleveland! I just bought a quarter of an NBA championship winning team in another City (for ~$900 million!) I don't have money to help with your lakefront. Go build me a stadium so I can draw even more revenue out of your fandom.
  21. Library Lofts (2-25-23) Street level of the Artisan is coming along The Chester to Stokes Slip lane has been removed since they started construction, but this is the first time I "used" the corner as a pedestrian and seen the new curb. The building really comes up close to the street and will have a nice presence on Chester/at this intersection. The whole feel of the area is already changing significantly, and this development is only getting started. Here's a few renderings of the corner to get a better idea of streetscape features The Artisan looks great next to Park Lane Villa - built a century apart
  22. Neurological Institute (2-25-23) Cole Eye Institute Expansion Playhouse / Sears Demolition The 89th-90th block along Chester looks even more bare now with the removal of some more trees a little bit ago. The clinic owns the whole block except for the apartment building at 1934 East 90th. I think this may be one of the largest pieces of empty land in the greater UC area (until the former Playhouse lot is cleared).
