Upper Arlington plans shared-use path to connect Lane Avenue to new Quarry Trails Metro Park Nate Ellis - ThisWeek Group - July 1, 2021 "Upper Arlington officials are expected to unveil plans this fall for a new shared-use path that will connect Lane Avenue to what ultimately will be the 226-acre Quarry Trails Metro Park. City officials hope to install the path along the north side of Lane Avenue from Asbury Drive to Riverside Drive. At the terminus of the 1,800-foot shared-use path, the city plans to continue the route on Asbury to Onandaga Drive, to the terminus of Tremont Road, through "sharrow" pavement markings and share-the-road signage. ... In total, the cost of the shared-use path is estimated at approximately $430,500."

The company did not permit reporters to photograph any of the meeting, but the model showed that the new headquarters would tower over the rest of the Warehouse District. It showed in detail, through a series of white pieces standing in for buildings, how the Sherwin-Williams will control three blocks of downtown ... Architect Bill Chilton said work on how the buildings will look and what materials it will be made of just started last month. ... 'I think that it’s not lost on Sherwin-Williams that the tower top, its presence on the skyline, is certainly an opportunity for the city of Cleveland,' Chilton said. 'It’s also an opportunity for Sherwin-Williams from a branding standpoint. And so are you going to see a flat top?' the architect continued. 'I don’t think so.'" The Amelita Mirolo Fine Arts Building and Circle Hall, at 161 and 145 N. Grant Ave., respectively, have been listed for a week and already had a "tremendous" amount of interest, said NAI Equitiies' Peter Merkle, who is handling the listing. ... Columbus College of Art and Design is selling the buildings as part of a plan to raise $20 million and reorganize its downtown campus, as laid out in the college's new five-year strategic plan." Cleveland, district reach agreements with developers to make use of 14 vacant school properties Eric Heisig - Cleveland.com - June 30, 2021 "In addition to apartments, the chosen developers have plans ranging from creating more green space to adding storefronts. The developers now must submit designs to the city for approval and confirm that they have obtained financing to carry out their projects. Purchase offers total more than $2.5 million, more than the fair market value for all the properties combined, according to the release. ... Wednesday’s release said that the team received 51 proposals, one of which was to turn any properties not selected for redevelopment into parks." All 13 of the 14 properties and buildings are scattered across the East Side. The Ohio Development Services Agency announced dozens of grants, with the highest amounts of $5 million each going to the Public Square project and others in Canton and Cincinnati. ... The new owners plan to create apartments in the bottom half of the building, once called the Illuminating Building from when it was the headquarters for the Cleveland Electric Illuminating Co. The top floors will remain as office space, and K&D plans to do work on common areas. The project is estimated to cost $59.2 million."

If approved by the full Council, the hiring of engineering firm HOK would mark the county’s first major step toward replacing the two aging jail towers housed in the 1976-built Justice Center complex in downtown Cleveland. ... Within the first year of HOK’s work, the firm would get familiarized with existing plans, draw up various designs, and help the county determine a maximum price as part of the process of hiring a builder. ... No site has been picked, but the steering committee has been exploring options for a location. ... Appelbaum said HOK could likely complete its first six months of work without a chosen site."

Judge orders former Arco Recycling dump operator to pay $30 million in fines, restitution for violations at East Cleveland facility Eric Heisig - Cleveand.com - June 29, 2021 "The verdict is a significant victory for the state, which has for years sought to hold Riley responsible for the environmental havoc it said he wreaked on the poor, inner-ring suburb. Lawyers from the Ohio Attorney General’s Office said at trial that Riley’s actions created a risk of toxins such as arsenic, lead and asbestos leeching into groundwater and exposed nearby residents to airborne pollutants. Assistant Attorney General Pearl Chin said at trial that regulators uncovered enough waste to fill a football field 10 stories high when the state closed the site in January 2017. ... The settlement also included agreements for Arco Recycling and 1705 Noble Road Properties LLC, with which Riley was also affiliated, to pay $2.7 million and $2.3 million civil penalties, respectively. The company also agreed to pay for the cost of the cleanup efforts"

But the plan hit a hurdle on Tuesday when the Columbus Board of Zoning Adjustment knotted 2-2 on a request by the building's owner, Bubbykins LLC, to reduce the number of required on-site parking spaces from 41 to zero. Miller said Bubbylkins, a company created by Nick Wolak, the owner of Evolved Body Art at 2520 Summit St., close to the Hudson Street building, might go back to the board this summer to ask for a vote of the full, five-member board. ... Miller said he worries that if he and the building owner can't get a variance, the building may have to be demolished. ... The University Area Commission supported the project and variance. Doreen Uhas Sauer, the commission's president, said many residents gave it a thumbs up."

Last year, the museum finished an $8.9 million phase that includes an overhaul of its Thelma and Kent H. Smith Environmental Courtyard, and a renovation of its 450-seat Murch Auditorium. The next phase of work will center on a 7,000-square-foot Visitors Hall, which will extend from the museum’s new lobby off Wade Oval Drive through the heart of its complex to a new all-weather garage entry. The Ohio Tax Credit Authority Monday approved a state tax credit for the project in the New Albany International Business Park, near routes 62 and 161. Amgen, based in Thousand Oaks, California, plans to start work in the fall on the 270,000-square-foot facility. In a news release announcing the decision, the company said 'the facility will feature Amgen’s most advanced assembly and final product packaging capabilities for medicines to be distributed in the U.S.'"

A five-story, 43-unit apartment building has been proposed for the used car lot at 3021 N. High St., near Weber Road. The lot was purchased last year by Brian Higgins, of Arch City Development. ... The second case on the zoning committee agenda is essentially an amendment to a previously-approved project. The Ave, a 301-unit apartment complex built on the site of the former Dixie International warehouse at 3632 Indianola Ave., opened in 2019. The plan for the project has always been to fill in the front of the site – the portion that sits closer to Indianola – with a three-story, mixed-use building and a one-story, stand-alone restaurant."
