  1. With this park, trash has turned into treasure for all Scott Suttell - Crain's Cleveland Business - June 22, 2021 "A former 25-acre landfill in Cleveland now is a park, thanks to the efforts of Cleveland Metroparks, the Western Reserve Land Conservancy and Old Brooklyn Development Corp. Those organizations on Tuesday, June 22, marked the official opening of Brighton Park in Cleveland's Old Brooklyn neighborhood. ... The park includes a half mile of paved all-purpose trail connecting from Pearl Road and Wildlife Way to the zoo through Brighton Park to West 21st Street. It also boasts a half mile of looped natural surface trail as well as a scenic overlook of Big Creek."

Walker Eric Heisig - Cleveland.com - June 22, 2021 "The developer behind a new retail project in Cleveland’s Hough neighborhood aims to inject more life into a long-distressed area while nodding to a past Black hero of the United States. The 16,000 square-foot building will sit on a one-acre piece of land at Hough Avenue and Crawford Road. Of that, a quarter of the space will go to a yet-to-be-named credit union, while the rest will be for small shops. Kareem Abdus-Salaam of the Maryland-based real estate and construction firm Structures Unlimited, which is developing the site, also said he wants to have some space be used as an incubator for startups. ... construction should finish by fall 2022 on what he said was an $80 million project." 14. Despite no state lease for land, Ginther wants to begin $4M design work on new city sports park Bill Bush - The Dispatch - June 17, 2021 "Two and a half years after announcing it would build a community sports park on state land in connection with a new stadium deal for the Columbus Crew, Mayor Andrew J. Ginther announced Thursday he is proposing $4 million in capital dollars to begin design work. However, the city still has no lease from the Ohio Expo Center & State Fair for land needed for the project, which was originally scheduled to be under construction starting in July ... As Crew players worked out behind a fence, Ginther announced he would propose $4 million for 'design and engineering' work on the sports park, but declined to say whether the size of the expenditure meant that the facility would include an indoor recreation center, as initially proposed." 16. Cleveland Metroparks’ widening of Lake Avenue sidewalk to improve Edgewater Park access is a great idea, despite shrill pushback Steven Litt - CLveleand.com - June 15, 2021 "Metroparks has held several online meetings about the proposal with residents who live along nine-tenths of a mile of Lake Avenue from West Boulevard to West 117th Street. The agency wants to widen the badly worn concrete and sandstone sidewalk, which varies in width from 3 to 6 feet to an 8- to 10-foot-wide concrete path — big enough to accommodate cyclists and pedestrians. ... Lake Avenue in Lakewood, the suburb west of Cleveland, was wide enough for the city to install striped bike lanes on both sides of the street, in a recent County Greenways project funded by Cuyahoga County. But Lake Avenue narrows in Cleveland, making such lanes impossible. Widening the sidewalk would be the next best solution, according to Metroparks."
  17. The Columbus Crew's new downtown stadium has a name: Lower.com Field Jacob Myers - The Dispatch - June 15, 2021 "It’s unknown for how much Lower.com purchased the stadium naming rights. Most deals range 10-15 years and yield a few million dollars annually, but that figure ranges significantly. Stadium naming rights are normally valued higher than the next biggest commodity a soccer team has to offer: the official jersey sponsor. The Crew is receiving more than $3 million annually from Nationwide for more than six years."
  18. I guess the rumors last week were true (official announcement still at 11:30am today) I actually like "Field" a lot for a soccer stadium. There are only 5 other "Fields" in the MLS (Fire, TFC, Sounders, DC and Minnesota).
  19. Its Official: ‘Never quit:’ Former Cleveland Mayor Dennis Kucinich running for mayor again Robert Higgs - Cleveland.com - June 14, 2021
  20. Hey at least they were able to get them to reduce the size from their initial proposal. Still a strange location regardless.
  21. Agree. I expect Gordon Park will offer that beach. I would definitely spend more time at the Lake if it was only a ~3 mile bike ride to a beach at Gordon Park over the ~9 miles to Edgewater (from The Circle). Things are at least moving in the right direction though for an "Edgewater East" Yes the existing beach there could be extended to the east, at least to the end of the volleyball courts, rather easily it seems.
