  1. From the March 23, 2021 Columbus Downtown Commission Meeting: Asbestos was found in the exterior paint, and it was not believed that it could be safely removed without damaging the brick, so they are proposing to paint the brick. The stone should be able to be cleaned and repaired. Approved as presented, subject to approval from the Historic Resources Commission.
  2. From the March 23, 2021 Columbus Downtown Commission Meeting (the following is paraphrased): Lot details: It will be staff and public parking, containing 85 spots. The entrance and exit to the lot is on Noble, so no curb cuts onto Mound Street. It'll include bicycle parking, gates, hedges, iron fencing and brick columns. Timeline: The intention of the county administration and commissioners is to have new structured parking within 2 years of the new courthouse being constructed at Dorrian Commons (across from where the proposed surface lot is). The structured parking would include the lot directly to the east which is owned by the county, and currently used by the Sherriff's Office. The city is building the courthouse, and the county is building the future parking structure. They viewed the parking situation as "critical" for the past 10 years, and a burden on the public. No ones intent is to have a surface lot here. The commissioners did not have doubt that this would be for only interim use. Motion carried without opposition.
  3. This thing is big. The south innerbelt will be around 12 lanes here at the Grant Avenue overpass. (3-21-21) The last segment of the Fulton Street to I-70 East & I-71 North Bridge is in place. This on-ramp should open sometime this summer, replacing the 3rd Street ramp which was permanently closed in 2019. The future I-70 bridge over the I-71 North ramp. On the East Innerbelt, work is continuing on extending Lester Dr. and Elijah Pierce Ave. south to Broad. In the same phase, work also continues on the new Board Street bridge. I-71 will be 11 lanes wide here.
  4. New Cleveland land trust group to build affordable housing in hottest West Side real estate markets Eric Heisig - Cleveland.com - Mar. 22, 2021 "An organization plans to build affordable housing in some of Cleveland’s most expensive neighborhoods, with the first home going up in Ohio City. The Ohio City and Tremont West community development corporations created the Near West Land Trust to building and maintain affordable housing. In addition to Ohio City, the nonprofits are looking at building in Tremont with potential Clark-Fulton plots. ... The land trust plans to build five homes this year and 40 in total on plots set aside by the city land bank, Ohio City development corporation Executive Director Tom McNair said. Michael David of Knez Homes on Friday presented information to the City Planning Commission for another planned home set for West 44th Street.
  5. Ya I've posted in both threads, usually just following someone else's earlier post (while missing concurrent posts about the project). It is defiantly not within the Victorian Village Boundary. The Harrison West Thread is the right place for South of Buttles, West of Neil (even though it is east of Harrison if it continued south).
  6. The State Auto campus improvements (parking lot reconfiguration) appears to be starting soon (3-21-21) Here are the proposed improvements from the August Downtown Commission meeting: State Auto is pursuing this improvement over their proposed Parking Garage, which they eventually decided against building early last year. It's a shame they aren't going through with the garage (yet?) as it could open up some of their surface lots to development. They own over 3 acers outside of their mega block south of Broad and north of Boone. Vera on Broad / 366 East Broad Street I don't think these trees could've been saved, but its a little sad to see larger ones in the city get cut. The lot (and trees) back in September.

  8. Columbus offers state $10 for land needed for Mapfre public sports park Bill Bush - Columbus Dispatch - Mar. 20, 2021 "...more than 27 months later, the city still has no deal with the Ohio Expositions Commission to transfer land needed for the project, which Ginther dubbed the 'Columbus Community Sport Park.' With its expansive outdoor playing fields, it would sit adjacent to a brand-new and enlarged Crew training facility that would also be built on state land, the mayor said. ... The city is offering to pay a total $10 in rent for the next century, which works out to less than a penny an acre annually, for prime state-owned land adjacent to a major highway, Interstate 71. ... Documents released by the state also show that the city's originally proposed site has gotten smaller, squeezed from the south by the state, and from the north, by the Crew's practice fields. The city's site allocation appears to be about a third smaller than the one displayed at the 2018 Ginther news conference."

  10. Busy ICP revisits Randall Park Mall site for 300,000-square-foot build Stan Bullard - Crain's Cleveland Business - Mar. 21, 2021 "Taking a different tack from its acquisitions the past year, Industrial Commercial Properties plans to return to land at a portfolio property for a site to build a 300,000-square-foot warehouse. The Solon company plans to construct its latest project on a 23-acre parcel on the Miles Road side of the former Randall Park Mall. The acreage is divided almost evenly between the suburbs of North Randall and Warrensville Heights. Chris Semarjian, ICP's owner, said in an interview that the real estate company plans to start the project on a speculative basis, without a tenant committed to the site."
  11. UH Ahuja Medical Center expansion will open in 2023, add 1,000 jobs Scott Suttell - Crain's Cleveland Business - Mar. 16, 2021 "University Hospitals has revealed details of a $236 million Phase 2 expansion for its Ahuja Medical Center that will open in 2023 and create an estimated 1,000 jobs. A 216,000-square-foot hospital tower addition and a 78,000-square-foot sports medicine complex will expand the medical center in Beachwood by more than 68%, UH said in a news release on Tuesday, March 16. A UH spokeswoman said in an email that Ahuja has 1,087 employees at present, so the expansion will roughly double the medical center's headcount. ... The Ahuja Emergency Department 'will be expanded and add Level II trauma care to accommodate a predicted 20% increase in ER visits.'"

  13. Beautiful space, but definitely a little pricey. It is a very health oriented grocery store that doesn't carry most traditional name brand food products (ie. Justin's peanut butter instead of JIF) so it comes with the territory. It feels a lot like a small Whole Foods. (3-17-21)
