Cleveland board OKs transformation of former MidTown school into manufacturing hub Eric Heisig - Cleveland.com - Mar. 8, 2021 "A Cleveland board on Monday gave its blessing to plans by a manufacturing-focused nonprofit to use a former school building in the city’s MidTown neighborhood as a hub for startups and to teach students about the field. The Manufacturing Advocacy and Growth Network, also known as MAGNET, plans to use the former Margaret Ireland School as a space it can provide to startups who may not need or have the means to obtain their own factory. The Cleveland Metropolitan School District will also use some of the 80,000 square-foot building as classroom space. The nonprofit will also call the building at East 63rd Street and Chester Avenue its new home, and plans to finish the renovations by summer 2022, President and CEO Ethan Karp said."

Columbus: Brewery District Developments and News
NorthShore64 replied to seanguy's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionYes there will definitely be more developments of this or greater density in the area soon. It won't feel too alone then. One commissioner who sees the now 25 year old brewery district guidelines as outmoded mentioned that this area of High should have special considerations similar to the Short North. One thing that will definitely make this part of the Brewery District even closer to Short North is when the innerbelt project is finished with its caps over I-70/I-71 at High, Third, and Front. The South High street cap is planed to be green space, but can be used for a commercial building if a developer is interested, creating something similar to the I-670 cap. This will only increase the demand in the area as it is more seamlessly connected to downtown, just as the Short North was over 15 years ago. This phase of the project is years away though, slated for completion sometime in 2026. Regardless, this corridor has enough potential to become Short South as @CMHOhiodubbed it.

Columbus: Downtown Developments and News
Jackie O's (Wed. 3-3-21) Didn't notice this about the Jackie O's plans at first, but the expansion is pretty large (bigger outdoor space than anything downtown that I can think of), taking out ~25 surface parking spots while adding a sidewalk along Lazelle. The Pins Mechanical patio area next-door is often crowded when I ride by, so this will definitely be a popular place when finished.

Columbus: Brewery District Developments and News
NorthShore64 replied to seanguy's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionThe proposed 6 story addition to 514-518 S. High St. went up for conceptual review at today's Brewery District Commission meeting. It seemed to have received a generally positive response from the commissioners for its first presentation. They liked that the existing structure is almost entirely preserved and a surface lot is removed while providing close to a 1:1 parking spot to unit ratio for the new development. At least two commissioners preferred a shorter 5 or 4 story building, with one noting a lack of compatibility with the immediate area and the potential of a "monolith" on Pearl and the neighboring historic district. It was suggested that this could be ameliorated by moving the massing closer to High or setting back the upper floors on the eastern face. Again, it's still early in the process, but this project was well enough received that it seems it could get built at or close to the proposed mass it they get the design elements right.

Cleveland: University Circle (General): Development and News
MLK is legitimately lined with free on street parking here. There's also metered parking on Wade Oval and East, and there's 2 free parking lots in the park across 105th, and 3 public garages at the museums. There are 6 apartment buildings 6 stories or taller within half a mile of this area (with more on the way). Plenty of parking and people.

Suburban Cleveland: Development and News
NorthShore64 replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Northeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionHighland Park, the reimagined City View Center in Garfield Heights, lands first industrial tenant Michelle Jarboe - Crain's CLE Business - Feb. 26, 2021 "Highland Park, the redevelopment of the former City View Center retail site in Garfield Heights, has landed its first new tenant — a growing business that makes packaging machinery for everything from cereal to craft beer. ... Real estate developer Industrial Commercial Properties LLC acquired City View in mid-January, cleaning the slate for a property that spent more than a decade tied up in receivership and litigation. Workers have removed the ornamental facades from long-empty stores, installed exterior LED lighting and repaved the parking lot, where landscaping will fill the driving aisle where shoppers once pulled up to PetSmart, Jo-Ann and OfficeMax."

The Parallel Co. developed apartment building at 88 E. 9th was up for conceptual review at this February's review board meeting. The form/mass of the building was generally accepted by the board, and it should be moving forward. These renderings from yesterday's meeting aren't much different than what was presented in January.
