There wasn't much objection last month to this building, and little changed from what was presented in January. One of the only notable aspects was the removal of additional balconies along High.

Cleveland Hopkins International Airport
Airlines facing huge COVID-related cost increases at Cleveland Hopkins airport Susan Glaser - Cleveland.com - Feb. 24, 2021 "The airlines funded 46% of the airport’s costs in 2019. In 2021, the airlines’ costs to operate in Cleveland will increase by $21 million and make up 66% of the airport’s revenue, according to city figures. ... In 2020, Hopkins’ cost per enplanement – that’s the average cost per passenger that an airline pays to operate at an airport – was projected to be $12. Instead, it was nearly $32, and is expected to be even higher in 2021. Other airports in Cleveland’s competitive set – Columbus, Pittsburgh, Cincinnati and others – also will see per-passenger costs increase, but are expected to top out at $10 to $15, according to Kennedy. 'We are damaging our competitiveness,' he said. 'This is what drives airlines elsewhere.' " For some more information on the airports finances, you can watch the beginning of city council's Day 6 budget hearings (Feb. 23, 2021) which includes an update from the Department of Port Control with director Kennedy and CFO Gilmartin.

Columbus: Downtown: Lower.com Field / Astor Park
Ya my bad nothing needed to be voted on for a conceptual review, there just weren't many member's around at the end of the meeting to say much about the project. They had seen very similar plans for the development in December (for the office building conceptual review) with not much changing in between. The only noticeable change I saw in the presentation was that they reduced the height of a few sections of the Blocks A and B from 6 to a uniform 5 stories. The Parking Garage should be up for conceptual review next month, so we should be able to get a better idea of how that will look.

These site plans and renderings are from the Downtown Commission's Feb. 23, 2021 meeting. The Block A and B residential buildings were being presented with greater detail for conceptual review. The meeting ran late though, so nothing was voted on/approved this month. I didn't notice this about the development before, but most of the first floor units/townhomes will have exterior entrances to the sidewalk. The Office Building went up for conceptual review at the December meeting. Here is a more detailed look at the buildings layout/commercial space.

Cleveland: Lakefront Development and News
I think the Main Avenue Bridge removal / replacement from Ohio City to Downtown is another question altogether. They are referring to the viaduct between ~West 9th and its touchdown by the current Amtrak Station. I imagined a removal of the Shoreway downtown would likely maintain the Main Avenue Bridge and its connection to Lakeside Avenue. It could also connect to a new lowered boulevard with intersections replacing the Shoreway until the I-90 interchange. The cities Lakefront Plan from 2004 (pursued/adopted by mayor Campbell who preceded Jackson) illustrates this potential alternative for the Shoreway well. https://www.clevelandmetroparks.com/getmedia/3791b708-c201-464e-a0cf-41808cfcdcc9/Cleveland-Waterfront-District-Plan-Dec2014.pdf.ashx The Main Avenue Bridges future will have to be addressed soon though as it is structurally deficient. I don't believe this is right thread to discuss it.

UA's holdings are huge — about 8 million square feet under roof on its campus near downtown Akron, said vice president of operations Nathan Mortimer. ... "We're not looking at the entire campus. Cleveland: Lakefront Development and News
City support for the new multimodal station / North Coast Transportation Center and the Land Bridge is good to hear. Also interesting to me was this section: "...Jackson and Collier sketched a verbal picture of extending the downtown street grid to attractions at North Coast Harbor by removing or modifying the elevated section of the Ohio 2 Shoreway, which descends from the east end of the Main Avenue Bridge at West Ninth Street to just east of West Third Street south of FirstEnergy Stadium. Collier likened the curving section of the Shoreway to a spoon sticking out of a Tupperware container that needs to be removed in order to close the lid." Frank Jackson opens up on planning neighborhoods, lakefront, before upcoming ‘Building the 21st Century City’ symposium - Steven Litt I can't recall if Collier or Jackson had talked about removing the Shoreway in the past, but its good to know they are talking about it now and realize that it is an impediment to improved connections and further development on the lakefront. Billions of dollars in federal support for urban highway removal may also be coming soon, so hopefully be could take advantage of that program. Ohio Ski Resorts
In state though, the 5 Ohio resorts have all had pretty good stuff so far this year, especially with the recent snow. The only thing is that the lines have been longer this season. Checking the webcams to see how crowded they look beforehand has helped me multiple times this year. (at the moment, Brandywine and Alpine don't have the best views of their main lifts) Boston Mills/Brandywine: https://www.bmbw.com/the-mountain/mountain-conditions/mountain-cams.asp Alpine Valley: https://www.alpinevalleyohio.com/the-mountain/mountain-conditions/mountain-cams.aspx Snowtrails: https://www.snowtrails.com/footer/web-cams\ Mad River: https://www.skimadriver.com/the-mountain/mountain-conditions/mountain-cams.aspx

"Win-win:" A look at the Cleveland Clinic acquisition of Mercy Medical Jessica Holbrook - The Repository - Feb. 7, 2021 "The 476-bed hospital, now called Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital, will maintain its Catholic identity through sponsorship from the Sisters of Charity of St. Augustine. Mercy became the 12th regional hospital in the Cleveland Clinic network, and it joins Akron General and Dover's Union Hospital as part of the Clinic's southern strategy. ... Mercy's medical staff also will be able to tap into the expertise and experience of the Clinic staff.
