  1. This is a great point! I hope this is a course of action being considered for this space. If Sherwin Williams stays in its current space in the Landmark Towers and Skylight, these potential new offices could be right in the middle and could be decent spaces for areas of that business that don't have to have continual interaction with the other departments. Just a thought.

Why is the Hopkins thread locked? That's one of my favorite threads!
  3. I wouldn't worry; just because updates haven't been forthcoming doesn't mean the project is dead or even stalled. There are a lot of pieces that have to come together! One item that makes me feel it is promising is that Stark has made their building over by the Warehouse district available for sale. Also, there are contractors (at least one that I know of) that have been contacted about doing construction/installation work and to have bids/timeframes prepared for this and the Weston/Citymark project. I still believe!
  4. Fiscal Year 2017 City Pair contracts were released by the GSA recently. Cleveland has more city pair contracts than they used to, which I found interesting. All in all, it looks like American Airlines has the most now, and they had a fairly decent net gain of contracts. United and Delta stayed pretty much the same, and Southwest had a significant net loss of contracts out of Cleveland (Southwest's booking module doesn't cooperate very well with the government booking tool(s), so I wasn't too weepy over that one). A far cry from the days when United had the lion's share of those contracts. After the merger, at least. Before the merger, it was pretty spread out; Continental didn't pursue those contracts very much, if at all. I'm sure government contracts don't account for a huge amount of O/D traffic in Cleveland, nor is it a metric for regional air travel health, but I do find the information interesting!
  5. That is a shame; the worst I have had to deal with on the Red Line is youths playing their stereos/headphones too loud. I do hope this is the exception and not the norm, though I can't say that I use the rapid every day either... mostly just to get between downtown and the airport 3 or 4 times a month.
  6. They didn't try very hard on that one, did they?
  7. I agree that they need a bat, but not desperately. Desperately means they might trade for Beltran or Bruce, which I would prefer they NOT do.
  8. This story was originally Motley Fool clickbait, and should be taken as such (as an opinion piece). The MF has always had anti-United tendencies, and as usual, this op-ed piece demonstrates that, along with generally poor research. I didn't put any credence to this article after reading it, and neither should anyone else. Close down LAX? That would be like United Airlines handing American Airlines it's resignation and intent to liquidate.
  9. If one was to extend the Red Line out to Euclid, where would the station be? Just curious what some opinions/options might be. Yes, yes, the likelihood if this ever happening is slight at best, but if it were done, where would it be? Somewhere near the mall seems like it might work, and maybe some of that land can be repurposed. Who knows, though?
  10. The Hard Rock Cafe is an anachronism in this time of the internet. I remember when I was younger, you had to have been there to get a shirt... it was so popular to have one and wear it to school! If their food was better, this would be a little sadder. And I will be sad that there will be an empty space. Hopefully, it will be filled again soon.
  11. Any announcements on schedule changes? I fly frequently between Cleveland and Dallas, and searches on Spirit Airlines show this service ending on November 10. I wonder if this means American Airlines will be raising their prices on non-stops to Dallas, since they will no longer be competing on this route. Although if Southwest does expand their flight offerings from Cleveland as has been postulated here, perhaps there may be a non-stop to Dallas Love Field coming soon. That would be nice... I definitely prefer that airport to DFW when it is possible.
  12. It appears that pre-sale single game tickets are selling more, particularly if there is a promotion. We were looking to get 4 tickets together for the August 30 game, and there were none to be had on the indians.com site. Glad to see more people going to the stadium! Wouldn't it be amazing if the Indians were champions this year in addition to the Cavs?
  13. This is a great re-use of this land. What if all of the unused/underused land in Euclid became urban farm? Sure, it wouldn't generate a whole lot of tax revenue, but neither is unused land! Plus, think of all the good an urban farm does; environmental, humanistic, aesthetic.
  14. Apparently, Philadelphia airport workers plan to strike during the DNC. Definitely a larger and better airport to handle a big convention, but as long as Cleveland's airport can function all right, it'll be better than the chaos at PHL. http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/airport-workers-vote-strike-philadelphia-democratic-national-convention/story?id=40544272
  15. Excellent point. Good to see Stark is serious about moving forward for both of these projects.
  16. Yes it would! It seems like it service a much greater population as well.
  17. In all the flights I have been on since 2013, I have only had to wait more than 15 minutes for my bags in Cleveland twice; once on Delta and once on American. The baggage handling at Hopkins is the same as it is just about everywhere else; it's a tossup depending on who is there. The only airport I have to consistently wait at regardless of carrier is DFW (I attribute that to its size). Even on a full 737-900 from San Francisco, the bags were there pretty quickly.
  18. It's no better on Delta. Usually at least 30 minutes. In happier news, Delta is now using all 5 of their gates (B2, 4, 6, 3, 5), and Southwest has taken over the previously vacant B7. Landed at about 5:40 from MSP today, had my bag by 5:55... maybe they are stepping up their game. In other news, I saw this across from gate B1 - does anyone know what this is? Just touching up, perhaps?
  19. Where do these expectations for the airport come? I understand the consumer mentality we have here, but it seems exacerbated here in Cleveland. The airport receives so much enmity - it isn't the best airport, I'll grant. But there are many worse, and I won't understand anyone who complains about Cleveland baggage claim... it is much much faster than any other airport our size, particularly since there is so much less connecting traffic. At Charlotte, I waited nearly one hour for bags - I suspect during the heyday of Continental's operation in CLE (or any other airport that has so much more connecting traffic than O/D), that must have been what it was like, since connecting bags surely must be prioritized over O/D bags.
  20. United's new gate stands and gate information displays look really nice. With a little gentle updating of the seating areas, their rotunda space looks pretty nice, now, actually. It's too bad they don't have many connections in Cleveland anymore, now it would be a better experience. I just came back from a trip and have 3 more in the next 30 days, so I am excited to see the ticketing area project finish. I wonder if American will move their gates to Concourse C before or after the RNC. All in all, they are doing what they can at the airport. Without a major influx of cash, this is really the best we can expect. Perhaps that may change if new leadership comes in (nothing against Szabo, but he's just a placeholder) and has a "vision" and a mechanism with which to realize it. I'm not holding my breath, though.
  21. I second this; I will be flying on their SFO nonstop in a couple of weeks. I'm curious what kind of load factors there are.
  22. Finally, United is updating their gate stands/displays. I guess for the convention, they didn't want to look like a third class operation. They've installed the first one at gate C29, and they've staged several stands and display monitors near gate 19. The new customer service center is small! It's probably the correct size for their operation now. Makes me wonder what they are going to do with that space. Lastly, they got rid of that car rental stuff which was in gate C2. I'm sure they don't intend on leaving that empty, so I'm curious what will end up there.
  23. My wife and I are using the new Frontier CLE-->SFO service in June for an anniversary trip. The ticket specials when the routes were announced were incredible! I wonder if this will lead to any change in UA's SFO flights... since the F9 flight isn't daily, I think United might leave theirs intact, but they may drop the price a little.
  24. I think it's more likely to be Philly than Charlotte. CLT actually has gained passengers since the merger, it is cheaper and easier to operate and would be easier to modify/expand than PHL. I could see them drawing down PHL a bit, but I doubt they would eliminate it. CLT is not likely to shrink.
  25. Charlotte is an annoying airport. The only airport I have ever been to with bathroom attendants. It's a transportation terminal, not a nightclub!
