  1. The lease goes through 2027. I think it's likely that there is or could be a termination clause, but seeing as United is paying the city a fair amount of money on that lease, there is little incentive to terminate at this time.
  2. It's been a while since I've used Concourse C (I've been an exclusive Southwest patron for the last few years), but is the concourse wide enough to install moving walkways? Not that that would necessarily be a wise use of funds, but just a thought. I don't think it would be wide enough. Concourse C is a bit of a puzzle... either deserted or jam-packed at peak times with everyone one spilling out into the concourse while trying to board. I think if they had enough money to do that, it would be better spent elsewhere.
  3. Unfortunately, a project like what happened in Indianapolis will not happen here in the near future. The hand drawn signs will be gone before major RNC air traffic begins, and we will have what we have always had, a functional airport without major aesthetics. Do I wish our airport looked nicer and had a design more appropriate to current travel trends and Cleveland air traffic? Yes, I do. But right now, it is better to parse out the good things so traveling feels better/easier. For example, we have some decent local restaurants there (Panini's, Great Lakes Brewery), and luggage gets to the baggage claim area faster than many other airports.
  4. LOL i can't even begin to count the number of times that has happened to me over the past 30-years at numerous airports. This is very common. And not just late at night but all times of the day. This happens to me frequently at DFW.
  5. Maybe... I was in Terminal A at DFW several times while it was under construction... I saw plenty of hand-drawn signs, or more often, just magic marker written on drywall, in that long corridor that was the site of construction. At least the Southwest logo was written nicely on the one sign.
  6. Me either... I love the snarky captions in Scene. Catches the angst so well.
  7. Good points, although American Airlines has an early morning once daily flight to LAX. Once April hits, you are right, we will have an impressive array of West Coast flights. Even Philly doesn't have a Portland flight, and they are a hub!
  8. Since the service is not daily on Frontier, I'm not quite as stunned about being written off for the international flights. Although I am slightly surprised that there hasn't been any interest yet from any of the Middle East carriers, considering the Cleveland Clinic's ties to that region.
  9. Just like in CLE, former hubs will take some time for other legacy carriers to step in with those routes, as they cater more to those business travelers. It's nice to see this uptick in service and route selection!
  10. No official announcement yet, but a search of flights from Cleveland reveals new service from Frontier starting in April. Mostly to cities already served (LAX, SFO, SEA, RDU, PHL), but there is new service to PDX (Portland) three days a week. Personally, I'd love to see Alaska Airlines serve this route, but this is still an increase in service that is welcome. O/D numbers have been pretty good lately, so this is nice to see.

I think if one suspends the Neil DeGrasse Tyson analyses of Star Wars and approaches it from a purely cinematic standpoint, it can certainly be counted as at the very least a "good" movie. I disagree on points made about the soundtrack though. Consider listening to the soundtrack isolated from the movie. The track "Resistance March" off of the album is particularly impressive (especially great low brass orchestration). Yes, there are inconsistencies. But nonetheless, it works as a film. Besides, the bar was set so low after the prequel trilogy, it was easy to get everyone excited.
  12. I also hope not. I think one of the developer's for the Weston project indicated his personal desire to have his project underway with a visible crane during the RNC for the exact same reasons you state.
  13. I would wager that obesity would drop if the type if transit and urban planning revert back to models you've described. Maybe not by a precipitous amount, but at least a noticeable one.
  14. Now that United has consolidated their gates to the C-banjo, what do the lower C gates look like now? Did United move equipment as well, or do they just look like empty United gates? I am curious how long it will be before one of the other airlines moves there.
  15. I think that would be appropriate and allow the lawyers to get "actual value" out of the condos. It's easy for the lawyers to hire an appraisal firm to put a dollar amount they want on the condos. At the very least, the condos should be appraised by a third party entity without any connection to either side (the lawyers or the association).
  16. This would be the best thing to happen. What would it take for this to actually occur, do you think?
  17. I'd like to think that is true, but it seems doubtful. All the same, I'd love it if they re-established their nonstop to DFW. Not going to happen since Spirit has its once daily, but it would be nice. They had a flight leaving at a very convenient time, and ExpressJet always had top-notch service on this route.
  18. I'm expecting groundbreaking on this project in August - after the RNC.
  19. Ditto. I can't wait for the New Year's parties!! I have to get all my information by Christmas... New Year's is pretty uneventful for us. Dinner and a movie is our usual thing, unless I'm playing keyboards somewhere for $$$.
  20. Someone I know does accounting work for a contractor who is under contract for concrete work for nuCLEus, and also does accounting work for an HVAC contractor who did a lot of work for FEB phase 2... the HVAC contractor is under contract for the Weston Citymark development, and was given some firm timetables. It certainly appears that all 3 of these projects are going to be worked on to some degree in 2016. My hopes are high! On another note, there is a nice surge of Cleveland pride as I attend gatherings. It's nice to see.
  21. Fortunately, the airport and any of its shortcomings are not having much of an influence on the state of the city. Right now, Cleveland is about as global as its metro area dictates. As more business moves in, and the metro area experiences the same percentage of growth as downtown, then we can worry about being more global. So far, things look good, though. When May and June roll around and the traffic situation is back to normal at Hopkins, we shall see if the city looks at the next steps for improvement.
  22. No it doesn't. Air travel is stressful. It shows that we have a function airport with little or no chaos. However, just like the forum, the picture will be interpreted in many ways. Well put.
  23. Have you stayed at any of their other properties? Considering this a high non-high-end hotel chain, this is definitely a departure for them and is definitely a high profile addition to their portfolio. I'm happier to see it used for this purpose than stay a vacant former Board of Education building.
  24. I would imagine that right now, it is still too far away in terms of plausibility. Although, Cervenik is not running for reelection, so he really could speak his mind as much as he wants now, I would imagine.
  25. Interesting article... United has "comfort dogs" in select airports to alleviate stress during holiday flying. Cleveland is getting some nice treatment for a non-hub airport. http://money.cnn.com/2015/12/21/pf/united-airlines-dogs-holiday-travel-stress/index.html?iid=surge-grid-dom I like this idea. Surprising it was also done last year while everybody's favorite CEO Smisek was still in charge. I thought positive PR and making customers happy was not his MO.
