  1. I flew on the Spirit nonstop from Boston to Cleveland. One of the problems they have is delay/cancellation issues. The morning flight was delayed due to an aircraft issue, and another aircraft was not supposed to be available for another 2 days! Fortunately, they were able to get one late that evening, after an 11 hour delay. Maintenance issues can and do happen on all carriers, but the other ones (especially in BOS) are better equipped to deal with them and get you home a little sooner.
  2. And I do believe the credit card affiliations drive even more profit than flight ticket sales.
  3. I wonder why Alaska airlines hasn't started this route yet. It certainly seems like there are enough passengers for a daily flight. Does Frontier still do a seasonal to SEA?
  4. I've always thought that CLE could have been approached by United the way CVG is approached by Delta. Delta still uses CVG as a connector (we'll call it a hub-let) but greatly scaled back. It can somewhat relieve pressure on their ATL operation (especially during IRROPS down there) and ensures they continue to capture a large portion of the O & D traffic from the greater Cincinnati area. CLE will likely not be used as a large scale hub again, but United certainly has the gate capacity (without even using Concourse D) at CLE to add a modicum of flights to relieve ORD congestion. One negative though is that most weather that would affect Chicago would also affect CLE as well.
  5. It's small things like this that I think make each neighborhood unique. The more of this we see around town, the better.
  6. Also, it seems people are chomping at the bit to live there; someone has told me that the building is already 90% "spoken for."
  7. Tenants will be moving in this spring even though completion of the building is not expected until the summer. How common is this?
  8. This does happen with Spirit as well, although once when there was a Boston to CLE cancellation, they routed through Florida to get passengers back the same day. You'll get more luck if it's a flight that happens daily, as opposed to those 3 or 4 day a week flights.
  9. Denver has been attracting a lot of jobs due to its economic diversification and an investment in its infrastructure (beyond just the airport). I agree that investment in the airport in Cleveland could result in increase some economic opportunities. It definitely would not be the number one driver, though.
  10. They can say "several other states" as much as they want, but unless they have a workforce already set up in those other states, that seems unlikely.
  11. To his credit, Gov. DeWine has mentioned he would never sign such a bill. https://www.10tv.com/article/ohio-ag-dave-yost-sues-halt-upcoming-opioid-trials-2019-sep
  12. I haven't made it to either of those stadiums yet, but I'd like to!
  13. Taking the family to our first Akron Rubberducks game on Sunday! So far, I've seen the Captains, Dragons, Mudhens, and Clippers as far as minor league baseball is concerned, but this will be our first game at Canal Park. Looking forward to it!
  14. True, no one checks, but lately it seems like there is more security on the bottom floor to make sure you work there before you even get on the elevators. I haven't worked there in a few years, myself.
  15. The restaurant is for building employees only. Probably should call it a cafeteria I guess. I liked the food when I worked there! The view wasn't anything great (mostly "courtyard" views).
  16. Apartments is the likeliest candidate. That would be a massive conversion project, and it makes me wonder what things on the interior would remain (the 8th floor restaurant, the exercise area/locker rooms, etc.).
  17. Wow. That's a shame. It's up for debate how much or how little impact financially it would have had, but it's too bad a film that takes place in Cleveland won't be filmed here. Can't fault the filmmakers... the cost needs to be taken into consideration for them as well.
  18. Euclid was a victim of its own expansion and bad city hall policies with regards to its Lakefront development. It really is a shame... the neighborhoods between E. 203 and E. 219 (the Beach Club neighborhoods) were always nice. I loved biking through there as a kid, but those apartment buildings never seemed nice to me, even when I was a kid. Sims park was always a nice draw, but there was so much that could have been done in that area that wasn't. Maybe it can't... everyone was excited when the K & D group bought those two high rises and had some grandiose plans for re-making that facility and putting some new construction in, but they quickly abandoned the big plans and concentrated on just the renovations. Since then, they've seemed to be much better at reading the market. I always hoped Euclid could do some more with their Lakefront property, as it is my hometown.
  19. This isn't a change in available seats, though. 3 daily E145's (50*3) goes to 2 daily E175's (76*2). However, I wholeheartedly agree that this is an improvement. I was very recently on this route and 3 hours is too long on an E145 (not to mention that the E175's are outfitted with wireless and the E145's are not, nor will they ever).
  20. It's too bad about the Playhouse. I thought that when Explorys moved in there, the building itself might experience a little rekindling. I'm in there pretty regularly and it just gets used for training pretty much now - no effort is being put into the building, so I don't think they have a long term plan or use for it. Only one bathroom is being kept in usable condition.
  21. Perfect opportunity for one of those parking garage elevators like in Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol!
  22. This is correct (about the charter)... pretty sure the charter mentions it must be within a one mile radius. However, in the current business climate, that could be changed without too many issues. However, I would wager a fairly large sum that if Sherwin does build a new HQ, it will fall within the city limits of Cleveland, unless the city REALLY tries to undermine the company.
  23. Agreed. I will be very surprised if they come back to this market in 2020.
  24. I'm hoping last year's messes were a fluke. Dan Otero looked better in the spring training games I saw than last year, and Jon Edwards looks like he can be a nice viable piece this year!
  25. I'm excited for the season... I think there are some really good pieces in place.
