  1. BOS was one of those point-to-point routes - I'm surprised it lasted as long as it did. I doubt that they will add any routes, but I wouldn't be surprised to see more upgauging (I was on a flight from Dulles to Cleveland recently on a 737... in the past it's always been on a much smaller CRJ-700). Since they still have a reasonably costing 737 maintenance facility in Cleveland, and the airport continues to serve more and more O&D traffic, I would not be surprised to see them adding more capacity to their hubs from CLE. Their load factors seem pretty high, and every time I fly, there is at least one flight in the vicinity of my gate where the flight is oversold. That said, I would love it if they brought back CLE-DFW.
  2. In Lake County, the greater portion of the signs I have seen are for Dewine, Joyce, and Renacci. But to be honest, there aren't nearly as many signs as I was expecting for any candidates.
  3. Ha! That's too forward thinking. But that would be incredible.
  4. I don't think that will happen; most mid-size and larger airports have gone the off-site route. Any cost of bringing it back on property wouldn't generate enough return on investment to be worthwhile. But I do agree that it's not the greatest first impression.
  5. I wonder if this means that some of their incentive money will remain unspent and can be re-allocated.
  6. Is there a timetable for deconstructing the old bridge? I assume the big "anchors" will stay... at least the one Riverside uses for its school graffiti.
  7. Way overdue, if you ask me. I'm sure there were reasons or money constraints at the time, but this should have been on the agenda the instant United announced the drawback. I'm glad it's happening, and I'm glad the airlines are on board so far.
  8. This is more accurate. I wonder though if Hinckley Pkwy is a temporary solution - it isn't a popular location among the employees that I know.
  9. Mornings between 5:00 and 7:00 are crazy there - once when I was visiting my dad in the morning who lives in the flight paths, it was a constant barrage of take-offs.
  10. I believe Hand just signed a new contract. I like the move. We're getting two MLB relievers! Hand AND Cimber. Good job, Chernoff!
  11. My wife was doing an audit at a company in 200 Public Square, and apparently this company had employees whose workspace was in conference rooms, or just in the middle of the floor, and not even a cubicle. The need for space is rising, to be sure!

That is a gorgeous picture. They've got drones and know how to use them!
  13. I'm not as high on the cinema idea. I'd rather see Tower City get renovated. The hassle with getting down into the Flats on a weekend night could be a deterrent. I hate missing the coming attractions lol. Anyhow, looking forward to some renderings we can all critique! To me, it depends on how they deal with the cinema itself. If it's just a regular old multi-screen cinema, then there is no need. If it's more of a "destination" cinema, then there's viability, in my opinion. If this was a high-end cinema, with a different type of service, then perhaps there could be more of a draw. I traveled to San Diego some years ago, and a friend took me to a really nice theater (I forget the name of it) that had really nice seats, a full bar, a restaurant and other amenities. I'd pay a little extra and make the journey downtown to go to a place like that. If they don't do it there, then if the Greyhound station ever moves, that building should be repurposed as a movie theater in the Playhouse Square area.
  14. Amazon would love it if the Blue Line extended out to Randall and the Red Line extended to Euclid. Having their facilities connected to more people and potential employees would work to their favor. Heck, Bezos has enough money to just pay for it himself or at least give out an interest free loan for it to get done!
  15. Is that what that is? I drove by it the other day and was wondering what was going on there.
  16. My source said they actually were looking at building a new HQ from scratch and had narrowed it down to 3 sites: The Flats, near CSU, and an unidentified "other" downtown site (I wouldn't be surprised if this was the Jacobs property). After the Valspar acquisition, this was put on hold, but they expect to resume the new build plan in 4 years. Conservatively, it could be up to 8 years hence that a new building is complete and ready for occupancy. That said, it's nice to know that SW is serious about a new building. What would become of the Landmark Towers at that point?
  17. Excellent point... it's better to frustrate a few people that may not be able to get in occasionally than to have constantly underutilized space.
  18. The airport accommodated far more than that before the recession. Maybe they shouldn't have torn down the long term garage. Taken in more context, the airport hasn't accommodated as much O/D as they've had in recent years... they handled the connecting traffic which often did not need parking or other services outside the airport. When I was kid, it seemed like there was a ton of parking and it was never full (but I was a dumb kid)... it certainly seems like there has been a reduction in space availability.
  19. Geneva has a cute little downtown area on Rt. 534. But like a lot of Main St., USA downtowns that are too close to Wal-Marts and the like, it isn't as robust as it once was. Still, there are some nice places to eat down there, and between Geneva and Geneva on the Lake's "downtown" is the State Park which has a gorgeous lodge right on the lake!
  20. When they tore down the hospital downtown, I thought Zaremba had floated a plan for coach homes or townhouses, but I'm not sure it was part of any long term plan. It would be nice though; they do some nice things down there like Art in the Park and farmer's markets and such. Plus I love the old train depot (and it's near a tasty pasta restaurant!).
  21. Is there any historic imagery of Burke Lakefront out there? I barely remember, but I was inside there only once in the 1980's when they had regularly scheduled passenger service. I took my kids to the Women's Air and Space Museum in there a little while ago and it struck me that it was the first time in three decades that I had been there.
  22. Cost per enplanement at CLE is fairly reasonable if you are not United Airlines, averaging about $9 (according to a cleveland.com article from back in February). The new carriers will come if they smell an opportunity for profit (why else would the budget carriers migrate much of their flying to CLE from CAK (which has a very low cost per enplaned passenger)). However, I don't see Burke as a big profit generator in any circumstance. At the end of the day, they'll just have to do a cost benefit analysis and see what usage of Burke generates the most profit (or conversely results in the smallest loss). I doubt other considerations are even close in the minds of city hall.
  23. AA has also upgraded their service between CLE and PHL to E190's and E175's. It used to be mostly E145's with an occasional E175 tossed in. They still consider the E190 a "mainline" aircraft, albeit a small one.
  24. I wonder how many of them will be ERJ145s? The CLE-->MCO route will be mainline for all flights. CLE-->IAH will be 3 mainline 737's, 2 ERJ175's (76 seat two-class), and one ERJ145. Basically, UA ramping up their "hub scoop" operations as they continue to draw down their destination portfolio from CLE. So, they'll still get you there, just with a connection or two now.
  25. I agree, AA is the worst when it comes to that. Their DFW-CLE route is a great example, and they're not really trying to compete with Spirit on it, either.
