  1. No surprise on the Milwaukee route being axed; it was only a matter of time. I would expect Boston to go away next. I think UA may keep the leisure routes, though.
  2. Typo in the story: "Of the more than $500 billion project..." Could you imagine a project that big here? That sounds like OCP's "Delta City" concept almost.
  3. I missed that the first time; thanks for reposting. This is one of the few urban decay places in Cleveland that I've ever been to, about a year and a half ago. I was awestruck by how large the facility is/was. I am curious what could ever be done with it if it is not torn down... it would certainly be a significant expense to finish remediation of the property.
  4. I think this will end up doing well; there is a market for it since there is a Dave and Buster's on the west side (that does pretty well) but not on the east. I think Dave and Buster's is probably a little more high end (particularly when it comes to food), but this seems to be more appropriate for the area. With so many other indoor shopping malls falling on hard times, a little creativity is needed. Better than a big empty anchor tenant space, which generates zero in payroll tax.
  5. Not really--I come in on the later ORD flights all the time connecting from the West Coast. It isn't unusual to be at the gate and still waiting for bags 40-45 minutes later (I'm usually up front and one of the first off the plane). I haven't taken United with checked baggage for a while, so I can't attest to this, but the last time I came off a mainline UA flight it was around 11:35 PM arrival... bags weren't on the carousel until about 12:10 AM. I dread the longer trips that require me to check bags. I've had better luck arriving mid-day or early evening with baggage wait times it seems.
  6. I think you are correct in that... when United renewed their lease for the banjo gates, part of that included an agreement to operate the United Club in CLE for at least another decade. (through 2027 I believe?)
  7. I doubt it... they seem OK with letting their FF base whittle itself down (much like their CLE based crew and whatnot seem to be getting whittled down via attrition). In the end, they will be just another carrier in CLE without any distinction other than having formerly had a hub operation here (twice).
  8. It already has. Tomorrow for example is 4 E190's (100 seat), 1 E75 (76 seat), and 1 E145 (50 seat). Other than the 145, two class configuration for all of them. They dial that capacity back a bit in the summer though.
  9. One thing that has happened as well is a significant capacity increase to PHL on AA. It used to be all regional, now there are two E-190's (100 seaters, but still considered "mainline"). AA does use PHL as an international gateway as well.
  10. In theory, if downtown residency continues to grow, the retail piece could work, as long as it's tailored to those who live downtown. But the growth definitely seems to have slowed to more realistic levels, so you may be right about the oversaturation.
  11. United employees at CLE have been warned that layoffs may be imminent. This hasn't preceded any service reduction announcements, but I wonder what the reason behind it is. It could just be plain old cost reduction (at their former "unprofitable for over a decade" hub) but I wonder. Gotta pay for their network expansion and potential ORD expansion somehow, I suppose.
  12. I wonder if this was originally a seed planted by Lee Unkrich, originally from the NEO area (Chagrin Falls)?
  13. Me too. That one had an incredible pipe organ and the acoustics were amazing as well.
  14. Sadly, you'll be out of luck... the ExpressJet maintenance base that is in Cleveland is for the ERJ140/5 aircraft type, so while that is here, there will be plenty of that aircraft type going between CLE and any route ExpressJet dba United Express serves out of CLE (IAH, MKE just to name a couple). CommutAir doesn't fly much to CLE right now, it doesn't seem, and their maintenance base is in Vermont(?) so their fleet plans shouldn't affect much Hopkins flying. I'm not a huge fan of the 1+2 seating, but at least it beats a CRJ-200. I think that one takes the cake for the worst 50 seater out there.
  15. I didn't interpret it as such, so no worries! Unfortunately, I'm not privy to the details of the contract; only that it has been signed and the company is preparing... I'm as curious about the details as everyone else! This is one project though that I'm definitely more bullish on it actually being completed since the Playhouse Square District Development Corporation is involved in the financing, and they seem to know what they are doing.
  16. True, although at that time, the subcontractor had been contacted but no contract was in place (I am referring to the same HVAC contractor in both instances on the forum). In this case, there is a signed contract currently in place for the Playhouse project but no others (they bid on the Beacon project but were not rewarded the contract, interestingly).
  17. The HVAC contract is in place for this project, which seems to indicate that things are progressing forward.
  18. Very true. If they increase the R&D presence there from a jobs perspective, this will be a net positive. The company I work for shifted its manufacturing out of Cleveland several years ago. However, most of the non-acquisition growth of the company has been sales, marketing, and engineering positions which pay well.
  19. I agree. Plus, there are several parks right on the lake for the community to enjoy (including fishing and boating) between Downtown and Bratenahl. At this point, unless someone with a big pocketbook wants to do something visionary at their own expense, the only thing near the lake I would like to see get attention is the potential multimodal hub.
  20. Most interesting to me about the article is the fact that United's cost per enplanement skews the numbers quite a bit. If one removes those numbers, the average cost per enplanement is closer to the norm (but still on the higher side).
  21. This is the first ever concert that tickets may not have gone on sale to the general public, or if they did, it was only for a brief time. Either way, I loved looking in the spring guide and seeing "Sold Out" on the listing.
  22. What does this mean for the future of some of the big projects such as the Playhouse Square apartment tower, NuCLEus, and the Weston CityMark Warehouse District project?
  23. If they do move, that would be a shame. I work just down the street and they haven't even been in their facility here very long.

Looks like they are starting up a similar flight at Dayton. I'm assuming these are ExpressJet flights... I didn't see the aircraft type they were using.
  25. Great pictures! Looks like it was a great night... restaurant is missing one thing, in my opinion... a grand piano! Guess we're about 30 years too late for that to be normal decor at a fancy restaurant.
