2 new airports coming to Ohio?
What airline would they think would hub at either airport? JetBlue doesn't appear to be in the market to expand enough to need/justify a Midwest Hub, and the other Low Cost Carriers don't really fall into the traditional hub and spoke models. To me, this speaks to these politicians' non-awareness of the way airlines and route systems work. This is a great thought, but not really a realistic possibility.

I'd bet money that CLE will get a route to JFK from JetBlue in the next 12 months. With United pulling out of there, I didn't notice much (if any) of a capacity increase to there. Plus it's all on small regional jets, whereas I think CLE could fill a E190 at least once a day if not more.

I just hope that this signals a small shift towards a better view of TOD by city leaders.

Me too... I was quite surprised, actually. Is that idea/project dead in the water or still a possibility?

I would hope AA would consider bringing the PHX route back. US Airways ran it for a while, and I heard they had pretty decent load factors, but wanted to redeploy their fleet elsewhere after the merger. Since Southwest is the only one with year round daily service to Phoenix, it definitely doesn't seem underserved. Not sure about LA; since Spirit does run a daily flight, AA may be reluctant to get back into the mix, since it would surely require a mainline aircraft. I often wonder which carrier would be represented if another nonstop flight to LA happened since all of the carriers have larger operations there.

Cool! Now if only they would consider extending the Red Line out there.

I'd love to see the NIH in Cleveland. Especially since it's not even in DC proper. It would match well with the city's large healthcare presence.

Cleveland Hopkins International Airport
I believe it's Saturday only. Or it's a Saturday departure/Sunday arrival. Found the departure: UA flight 3849 - Dep 700a Sat. Can't find the return and I don't have access to the UA database. I think it's already sold out which is why you can't find the non-stop on searches. Pretty easy to fill up 50 seats to a beach/golf destination on a weekend. The return is flight 4445 departing 9:45 from CHS on a random date in July (I used July 15).

Additional construction has begun on gates in Concourse C in preparation for American Airline's move there. Does anyone know how many gates they will have in total when all is done? The last time I was there, I saw construction at gate C3 and C5/7, and I hear that C9, C11, and C4 are being worked on as well. I imagine the work at C4 may be unrelated to AA, but I have no idea. It's nice to see some movement on this; about a year ago, I don't think any gates at the airport had true gate information displays, and now both American and United will have updated, modern gate stands. I'll be there in two weeks; I'll see about posting some construction photos when I go.

I know they were originally supposed to be done with the baggage claim project in June, but I wonder if they are on time with that one. At least the baggage project was mostly paid for by the TSA. http://www.crainscleveland.com/article/20151118/NEWS/151119773/cleveland-hopkins-international-airports-60-million-construction

Northeast Ohio / Cleveland: General Transit Thread
What a great read! It is regrettable that people in power and special interests can't see the benefit (and eventual inevitability) of mass transit. If these things are thought of now and implementation begins early and gradually, it can be smoother and a more pleasant transition.

And I would wager that many cruise passengers hail from Cleveland. I remember reading a report a few months ago identifying Cleveland as one of the top unserved nonstop markets out of New Orleans: http://www.therouteshop.com/profiles/louis-armstrong-new-orleans-international/ Looking at the same site, it appears they have already edited it to indicate the new service. Hopefully there may be some two way tourism going on.
