  1. I would bet that they get bused.
  2. I'll bet it was a basketball team. Who are the Cavs playing?
  3. Maybe the eight of them will spend lots of money. How do such small "transactions" warrant press releases?
  4. I always enjoy reading the comments. It seems like there are people that just wait for anything to say "Cleveland Hopkins" so they can immediately post their "CLE sucks, fly out of CAK" comments. Personally, the parking doesn't affect me much... I fly once or twice a month, but only for 3 days at a time, so I park at Brookpark and take the rapid to the terminal. $5.00 beats airport parking any day for me! I am hopeful that they finish that station soon; it will improve that experience immensely.
  5. I'm looking forward to the Brookpark station being done; I use that one most frequently. As far as the new stations go, which one(s) were the most expensive to construct? I would imagine the Brookpark station is up there as far as costing.
  6. On average, I fly a little more than once a month, and to the credit of the airport, 3 times of every 4 I see someone over there vacuuming or doing minor maintenance. But I'm with you; I hope the structure remains well tended to so they can start making plans in 2026 to utilize the space. If they can be proactive, a new master plan should be drafted shortly before that.
  7. Basically, there are 171.6 million reasons the city will be content to sit on this until 2029. Regardless of who runs the airport, who would give up that revenue stream? Nothing they do to Concourse D would generate that in the short term, and if we know anything about politics, it's that it is more about the short term.
  8. More bad news for CLE. Pittsburgh will get low-cost Condor non-stops to Frankfurt 2x weekly starting June 2017. This pretty much locks the door on Cleveland-Euro service for the foreseeable future. I'm sure Condor didn't even bother talking to the Cleveland folks like WOW! did. Ouch. It doesn't even seem like they are trying. Status quo seems satisfactory for the CLE airport system leadership. Not even a nonstop to MCI seems to be on the horizon.
  9. Watching FlightAware this morning has been very interesting. I don't know if Burke has ever been that busy, and a copious amount of extra General Aviation flights out of CLE as well.
  10. Can they even really do anything with concourse D without giving up the revenue from United? If they can't, I see them sitting on Concourse D until 2027 unless there is a financial incentive for them not to.
  11. Perhaps so, but in Benesch's own press release, they indicate they aren't moving to the new offices until 2019. It is possible that it may be ready for occupancy by the end of 2019.

Sorry, it was apparently just a rumor.

And now I hear Schwarber is going on the DL. What is Joe Buck going to do now?

It should be noted that the first time Kluber faced an opponent this season, he is 7-7 with a 3.82 ERA. The second time he faces the same opponent, he is 8-2 with a 2.55 ERA. The third time he faces that opponent, he is 2-0 with a 1.71 ERA. If Tomlin doesn't get him tonight, then I think Kluber will take care of business. But I think Tomlin will keep on surprising us and engineer a victory today. Indians take the series, 4-2.
  15. How close was this to actually being an underground subway system?

All the more reason to park 'n ride!

After the renovations? Not a chance. I respectfully disagree with you concerning the ballpark. The "retro-modern" ballpark may not be in vogue anymore, but since the renovations have occurred, I find the park easy to navigate and aesthetically pleasing for a baseball stadium. In this case, continued renovations and updates will be more cost effective than a replacement. Frankly, I don't think Atlanta and Arlington should replace their stadiums either from a cost benefit analysis perspective, but they can all do what they want, I suppose.

This is all good news for the hotels; they are all completely booked. Even the Days Inn in Lakewood can charge $500 a night! And it's going to be much cheaper to have the World Series in town than the RNC.
  19. Saturday has always been a pretty light day, even at larger airports. Delta is offering 30% discounts to fly on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Saturday since load factors are low on those days.
  20. This is a blow for CAK. However, since it is not daily service, it won't be a huge blow - CAK can recover. I wonder how many yearly passengers this will add to CLE. I'm certain their numbers now probably exceed the numbers from before the hub closure, and now it is mostly O/D traffic. My hope is that the MSY route is fairly successful and convinces another airline to consider daily service. There are business interests that utilize that route (and Allegiant doesn't really cater to the business traveler). Either way, a nice plus for Hopkins.

Thanks for the pics, KJP. Things look good around there.

CLE posted its January-July numbers: 4.9 million passengers - total up 6.23% over 2015. International was 129K - up 12.45%. It's reasonable to project about 8.8 million for the whole year, which means the United losses, which were mostly transit passengers, have been almost made up with local folks responding to new lower fares. So the question becomes, are these numbers going to remain fairly unchanged, or as the fare wars here settle could we see a decrease again?
  23. Thank you for the advice. I've got a sleeper and I am traveling with a friend who has also wanted to travel long distance via train for some time (he has taken the train from Boston to New York City several times though). I'm excited to be able to walk around, and I've been told to go to the lounge car to enjoy the scenery, which is what I plan on doing. Also, I plan on utilizing the dining car as much as my ticket will allow! I'm definitely excited to do this trip - we've planned this as an "experience"; fly in to Chicago, take the Blue line into the city and get a decent slice of pizza for lunch, catch the train at Union Station and enjoy the ride. Sadly, I don't have enough vacation days to be able to take the return train... taking a boring old flight back to Cleveland.
  24. I'm taking an Amtrak trip in October between Chicago and Fort Worth. It will be my first long distance train ride, and I am looking forward to seeing what the experience is like. Ever since I saw North by Northwest when I was a kid, I've wanted to take a trip like this. Out of all of the stops, it stops for quite some time in St. Louis. Is this because of transfers?
  25. And sadly these attendance woes have been nothing new. I remember going to games in Muni stadium when I was kid in the 80's, and there might be 7 or 8 thousand there. This was in that huge cavernous stadium which made it look even more ridiculous, and that was when you could get a bleacher seat for 4 dollars. It was just about the same price or cheaper than seeing a non-matinee first run film. At least the Indians have high ratings for their broadcasts.
