  1. A couple interesting notes from the latest CUFNA newsletter. Unfortunately I don't have copies of any of the images mentioned: And for The District:

Was that at the Brewery District meeting? I went to a meeting at that brewery a year ago when they were supposed to open last summer. Glad they are finally close to opening. I remember the owner saying they would have food and outdoor seating along the unnamed alley along the west side. Seems like a great spot.
  3. I think Calhoun/Taft and McMillan would benefit most from 2-way conversion east of Vine St. Those are the stretches that feel like highways and lack much in the way of good urbanism. Between Vine and Clifton, even with them being 1-way, the development feels sufficiently dense that I don't really mind it. If anything it makes it a little easier to jaywalk when you only have to look in one direction.
  4. https://www.zillow.com/homes/for_sale/Cincinnati-OH/170585488_zpid/4099_rid/39.13676,-84.495238,39.125824,-84.510688_rect/15_zm/ Am I crazy, or is this something new for Corryville - a large building renovated into a pricey single-family home, as opposed to student/medical worker housing? I wonder who their target market is, an whether this is the beginning of a shift for the neighborhood. There are plenty of beautiful houses on the residential streets that still exist in Corryville.
  5. They meet upstairs at Hughes: http://cufna.org/events.html
  6. Not to get too off topic, but at the last CUF council meeting there was a discussion of the need for residential parking permits, especially with The District coming online soon.
  7. I know someone who works at the bookstore. They told me the store owner had a meeting with 3CDC and wants them to stay. They even offered them the old Tiffany's location, which is on the corner but less square footage. Not saying they won't eventually move for new construction, but it may not happen soon.
  8. Hints from 5/3 that there may be apartments in 3CDC's vision for the old Macy's building: https://www.cincinnati.com/story/money/2019/01/22/apartments-top-old-macys-fountain-square/2644775002/ Really just speculation at this point, but maybe good things are happening:

It's truly a culinary tour of smells biking down through Mohawk and Brighton. You get the spent grain processing smell from Emmert on Dunlap, the hoppy/malty smells from Rhinegeist and Sam Adams, the smell of roasting coffee from Deeper Roots on Colerain/Bank, and finally the pickle warehouse on York St.
  11. Is anyone else getting cautiously optimistic about a potential Mayor Sittenfeld? I was never quite sure about his true stance on various issues, but he fought for the Liberty St. Road Diet, and now in this latest Enquirer article about pedestrians getting hit by cars (https://www.cincinnati.com/story/news/2019/01/08/pedestrian-crashes-cars-keep-hitting-people-cincinnati/2463813002/), he says this: It would be such a nice change from Cranley's lost decade.
  12. I noticed in the latest CUF Council PDF (http://cufna.org/Newsletter12-18.pdf) that it was reported the old medical office building at MLK/Riddle/Clifton is now owned by UC. So maybe we'll get something other than another medical building built there.

I'm mainly familiar with Cincinnati, so will post a few that are outside the usual photogenic OTR/CBD spots: Hollister St. (Clifton Heights) https://www.google.com/maps/@39.1265037,-84.5131043,3a,75y,321.53h,100.33t/data=!3m7!1e1!3m5!1s6mC0Yu7Efa7TVTOUcOjRpw!2e0!5s20140701T000000!7i13312!8i6656 Walker St (Mt. 14. Also, looks like "The District" development posted a newer set of plans on their page here: https://courbanize.com/projects/trinitas-cuf/updates. PDF: http://res.cloudinary.com/courbanize-production/image/upload/v1/information_plans/gwe4m77dcl7ze043kw7u They dropped all the office space (including one whole tower) and reduced retail space from 106,500 sf to 75,000 sf. Residential staying at 850 units. It also looks like they got all the frontage on Clifton north of Straight St from those frat houses.
  15. https://www.wcpo.com/news/insider/can-uptown-development-boom-unlock-potential-of-key-clifton-heights-site- Maybe something is finally happening on this site at McMillan and Vine? I know there was a rendering floating around here about a year ago of a hotel. It sounds like this may be different.
  16. Saw this posted by Building Cincinnati on Facebook. I'm no expert, but it definitely sounds like a positive change and I hope it goes though. "Camp Washington considering rezoning land on/around Colerain Avenue from Commercial Community Auto-Oriented (CC-A) to Urban Mix. Here's a PDF breakdown of what that would mean:" http://camp-washington.org/wp-content/uploads/UM-CCA-Zoning-Comparison-11-30-18.pdf?fbclid=IwAR0YziqqzNcMI-NljcGrj9nkGejfS26uMKbU8eiaLa9HwXmbTDnqyooH-N8
  17. Full 131 pages of planning documents have been posted: https://www.cincinnati-oh.gov/planning/assets/File/FCC West End Stadium.pdf Not sure if there's anything of interest in there beyond what's already been reported. I have mixed feelings about entirely shutting down a section of Central Parkway during games for pedestrian use only. It would be great if there was a solution that made the area more pedestrian friendly all the time and not just during events. But I'm not sure what can really be done with such a wide street.
  18. Some new details: https://www.cincinnati.com/story/news/2018/11/26/fc-cincinnati-major-league-soccer-west-end-stadium-plans-central-parkway-closure-gamedays-possible/2085565002/
  19. I parked down on Court St a few weeks back with some friends, and when I got out of the car and turned around, the nine stories of this new building poking out from the historic facades on Court made the street feel totally different. Everything felt a little cozier. Filling in these voids in the city, even if the building itself isn't particularly remarkable, improves the feel of the surrounding area immeasurably.
  20. I'm probably an outlier, but I love Crosley Tower. Brutalist buildings are being torn down at a fast clip the same way Victorian buildings were demolished earlier in the 20th century. I never understood why these types of buildings get bashed so much, while the truly offensive International/PoMo monstrosities like Atrium One/Two or those maroon towers on Covington's riverfront don't. I guess those are so corporate and bland that they don't even register. I wouldn't want a whole city of Brutalism, but having a few crazy buildings like that around is nice. Once they're gone they'll never come back (which I suppose most people would be fine with).

Unsurprisingly, it sounds like Cranley will veto. Does this mean the project is dead for good, or could it theoretically be revived when Cranley leaves office?

Not a hidden street, but I always felt the same about this lonely house in Camp Washington surrounded by the Crosley factory: https://tinyurl.com/ya6zqwsj It reminds me of the house from Eraserhead in which the family dinner scene takes place, next to that factory belching out steam.

Wow, never knew about that stretch of Cliff St. I'll have to check it out next time I'm over there.
