Cleveland Hopkins International Airport
Frontier Airlines considering using Cleveland Hopkins Airport as crew base Exciting news for CLE! Hope Frontier makes it official soon! I work for UA and we have 500+ pilots and flight attendants based out of Hopkins; this would make a great addition! Great paying jobs. Correct me if I'm wrong, but CLE may be one of the only airports of its size with potentially 2 mainline crew bases. Great for the local economy.

I'm an FA for UA and was previously CLE based. Not sure of the exact pilot numbers, but the flight attendant population grew to over 300 and they are offering CLE to new hires out of training. When I left CLE in December of this year there were 2 inflight supervisors, and now there are 4. Not sure of the amount of growth, but definitely good signs!

I have not heard of any major shift in flying at CLE, however, we have added capacity on our seasonal routes (FLL, RSW) to include both mainline and an express flight. United also brought back TPA with express as well, with a potential it be covered by mainline. I have heard that the CLE base has been understaffed for years, so hopefully this gives the company potential for expansion, although it may not be major, at least it is something.

The flight attendant workgroup is the last to merge it's seniority, so we are still either CO or UA until October 1st. CLE is a CO only base, whereas BOS and LAS are UA only bases. It's believed that after our workgroup merges in October the bases will open to transfers then new hires. In regards to CO being a younger workforce and losing seniority to UA that is very accurate.

This is interesting. Let's see if UA adds staff numbers to the CLE domicile to support these flights. They have been letting the domicile attrite since 2014 prefatory to closing it. I'm a United flight attendant based in ORD. CLE is significantly understaffed and rumor has it when we merge internally (Continental and United) on October 1st they plan on opening up most of our bases for transfers, I'm banking on that rumor. Can you translate for us UrbanOhio non insiders? United and Continental merged their brands back in 2012, but each work group had to come to the table and negotiate a new contract to represent them, it just so happens that the flight attendants are the last work group to merge. In October we'll finally merge seniority and be able to work together, and that is when it's believed that additional people will be able to come into the CLE base, although like I previously mentioned thats just a rumor, however the base is extremely understaffed.

Cleveland Hopkins airport renovates customs area in advance of new Iceland flights CLEVELAND, Ohio - The international arrivals area at Cleveland Hopkins airport is getting a facelift, in anticipation of thousands of international travelers passing through the airport on new flights from Reykjavik, Iceland. It's good news for travelers who found the previous customs process time-consuming and cumbersome. Buses, which transported arriving passengers from the secure side of the airport to baggage claim, won't be needed any more. Instead, the airport plans to reinstall Transportation Security Administration screening machines inside the customs area, allowing international passengers to pass through security before exiting through Concourse A. http://www.cleveland.com/travel/index.ssf/2018/01/cleveland_hopkins_airport_plan.html

Let me introduce you to Kentucky and SE Indiana residents. Wow will be successful in CVG, just like Frontier and Allegiant have had the success they have had in Cincinnati. Alot of penny pinchers in the surrounding area. Don't forget that Wow is apparently successful in Pittsburgh and they have Delta service to Paris AND Condor service to Frankfurt.

I flew this way via Wow Air out of Pittsburgh, they flew an A321 which is about the same seating capacity of the 757. The flight was packed from people making connections in Iceland, I was one of the few getting off and exploring Iceland (such a beautiful country!). Wow Air is known for their affordable airfares, so I'm curious to see if Iceland Air has similar fares!

It's also the type of engine and age of the aircraft as well. Some of the older regional jets are actually louder than the newer 737s and narrowbody Airbuses. The other question is: has there been a recent change in approach patterns to Hopkins? I'll try to the dig them up later to see. Do airlines have any influence over that at all? In my experience, landing from the SW saves a solid 10 minutes over the fly over the airport out to the lake, turn around over Euclid-ish, and return over downtown approach from the NE. Would definitely yield tighter possible flight schedules. The approaches depend on weather and wind direction. Airlines have no control over the approach their assigned.

Cleveland Hopkins International Airport
I flew out of Pittsburgh for the first time last night, and I was amazed at that airport compared to Hopkins. Not just the physical appears as I could look beyond that, but the international flight options. I was flying on Wow to Iceland, the flight a gate over was a Delta flight heading to Paris and across the walk way was a Condor flight going to Frankfurt. I was amazed, I guess I never really knew the amount of European options that were offered at Pitt as I typically always fly from CLE. Although we have a very dynamic routes to the West Coast, why don't more international carriers look at CLE? Northeast Ohio has a higher population than that of the Pittsburgh area. Is it just the lack of leadership that has represented CLE in the past? And do you think that will change with the shift of leadership at the airport in recent months?

Cleveland Hopkins passenger traffic continues to rebound from United cuts, sees 4 percent growth in 2016 CLEVELAND, Ohio - Cleveland Hopkins International Airport continues to rebound from the loss of its United Airlines hub, drawing nearly 4 percent more passengers in 2016 than the year before. The airport served 8.42 million travelers in 2016, an increase of 3.95 percent over 2015. The number is still lower than 2013, the last full year that United operated a hub in Cleveland, when 9.07 million passengers passed through Hopkins. But the gap is closing. http://www.cleveland.com/travel/index.ssf/2017/02/cleveland_hopkins_passenger_tr_1.html

Cleveland: Flats Developments (Non-Stonebridge or FEB)
Keeping a restaurant profitable is a hard task. Restaurant would kill for a 10% profit margin. Most rely on liquor sales for revenue, and assuming there's some tough competition in the FEB I'm not surprised. It's pretty normal for a high restaurant turnover, I wouldn't get to worried about it.

If you go on flightaware.com and type in the origin of the flight and its destination a list of flights will pop up. Select the Frontier flight and there is a "airline insight" button next to average airfare. You are able to scroll down and look at the load factors. Do note that some routes have this stat and some do not.

Cleveland: Public Square Redesign
Outdoor art coming to Public Square and the Mall before Republican National Convention (Photos) CLEVELAND, Ohio – A $1.5 million grant to the nonprofit LAND Studio from the Char and Chuck Fowler Family Foundation of Cleveland will kick off three years of temporary outdoor art installations on the renovated Public Square and the Mall, starting just before the Republican National Convention. Beginning in June, the Italian art collective Cracking Art, based in Milan, will install hundreds of colorful plastic meerkats, wolves, swallows, frogs and snails on the Mall and at the Cleveland Public Library and adjacent Eastman Reading Garden. http://www.cleveland.com/architecture/index.ssf/2016/04/outdoor_art_coming_to_public_s.html#incart_river_home Everything about this confuses me

Cleveland: University Circle: Cleveland Clinic Developments
Unfortunately, many times if the company that is building a hotel already knows which brand that hotel will be, the franchise requires a standard design for the hotel. That leaves developers with very little room for creativity. That's the same reason why every Hampton Inn looks exactly the same! I agree it is a bit bleh, but typical for a Holiday Inn.
