  1. KJP - I took your advice this weekend and tried Becker's...they were awesome. Very fresh and tasty. I never noticed their store before, and I drive by there all the time (Presto's is one of my favorite sandwich shops). Thanks for the tip!
  2. I don't really know, I've never sat at one. From what I can gather, at Momocho, you can reserve the chef's table and the chef's will create a menu for you and bring out the food and talk about it with you. It seems like you would get special items not necessarily on the normal menu, but i'm not sure. The people on the cleveland.com food and wine forum talk about it sometimes.
  3. Well, they are building a new building in Solon to house all of our servers, so some of the server people will move out there. I'd imagine that most of the rest would move out to our Tiedeman campus. Unfortunately I am not high enough up to know all the details. What I do know is that the Maycompany building is the worst office building in the world. No windows, dirty, cockroaches, dark. We can't move out of there soon enough.
  4. I think alot of restaurants have chef's tables. I know Momocho has one.
  5. Yeah, I work for Key and we have alot of our IT staff in the Maycompany building...floors 4-8. The rumor around here is that we will be moving out of the Maycompany building in 2 years, so I'd imagine nothing would be able to change much until then.
  6. We checked out Melt in Lakewood on Saturday. It was awesome. Really tastey, fun menu. Nice selection of beers (probably about 75 different microbrews from all over the country, listed by state). Very cool, little space. I highly recommend it, especially if you like grilled cheese. http://www.meltbarandgrilled.com/
  7. Some Marc's actually take debit cards and Discover Card now. No more checks! Thank jebus! I still won't buy their meat/poulty. Closeout steaks just don't seem right.
  8. No, Aldi's sells all generic stuff and you have to pay for bags. That place sucks a big one. Marc's sells all name brand groceries at a discount. They also have a closeouts section that just sells random crap for cheap. My friend bought a 37 inch Sharp Aquos LCD TV at Marc's for $1400 (about $700 less than it was retailing for at the time). That was a rare case, usually the closeouts section is just good for xmas decorations and lawn ornaments. But for groceries, Marc's is awesome. Some of the older stores aren't that nice, but they've been cleaning them up. The newer ones in the burbs are very nice...like the one in Rocky River or in Ridge Park Sq in Parma.
  9. http://www.federalreserve.gov/releases/lbr/current/default.htm According to the Fed, Key is 10th and is larger than both Nat City (18) and 5/3 (21). I'm sure it depends on what you measure by. And Key has been doing very well recenty. They've made gobs of money the last year or so.
  10. But it always has been...the flat rate didn't do anything to change the cost of Miami to the average Ohio resident. It's just a better model for giving needier students more financial aid.
  11. People on the cleveland.com food and wine forum are talking about Trader Joe's opening at Rockport. Anyone hear anything about that?
  12. My wife works for Hyland, and I don't think we'll see them move soon. They just expanded their building and are planning another expansion soon. But, at the rate they are growing, they could outgrow the site eventually. Maybe someday, when they get big enough, they can pull a Compuware.
  13. A lot of the rentals in Lakewood are going to be doubles (houses split into up/down apartments). I lived in the top half of a double before I bought my house. I never heard the downstairs lady, but she was older and lived alone. If you lived above/below a couple of just-out-of-college kids, you might have different experience. So, you'll just have to judge each situation individually. I would say that alot of the doubles in Lakewood are not owned by a rental company. Most are owned by a landlord that only owns 1 or 2 doubles and lots of times they live in the other half. You really have to go see them and check out the situation.
  14. Sometime near the beginning of the season, I believe. There's an audio clip of it that they play on WKNR all the time. He says "I can't wait to sign my extension" and "Let me spell it out for you...I am not going anywhere." The national media conveniently ignores this.
  15. Actually that is a myth created by the NY media. According to a Cavs beatwriter (I think it was Brian Windhurst of the ABJ) the Nike contract has NO incentives for moving to a larger city. Some of his smaller endorsements do, but Nike is the cash cow. And like I said, he is already #1 in the NBA in endorsement dollars...can't do much better than #1. Lebron has publicy stated that his goal is to win a championship for Cleveland and that he will sign his extension this summer. No player has ever turned down a max contract offer, and while LeBron has been the 1st to do many things, he won't be the 1st to do that.
  16. Totally different rules from when Shaq left ORL and now. It would be a major financial mistake for LeBron not to sign with the cavs...it would completely affect his salary and raise potential for the rest of his NBA career. Now you might say "Well, if he goes to LA or NY he will get more money in endorsements". He already makes more money in endorsements than any other NBA player. In todays world, it doens't matter where you play.
  17. Doh! I even have a friend who goes to Virginia Marti!
  18. LGR, While I do live in Lakewood, and I do love it, if I could do it over again, I probably would have bought a townhouse in Ohio City instead of a house in Lakewood. Nothing against Lakewood, but Ohio City is my favorite part of Cleveland. You can't go wrong either way, but just let your gf know that even some Lakewood people like OC too!
  19. Does anyone know what the hours at this Jimmy John's are? I have been craving a Beach Club for a while and I'm going to the cavs game tonight and want to grab a sandwich on my way home. Man I miss Jimmy Johns.
  20. I also live in Lakewood, though I live in the exact opposite corner from KJP...southwest. Traffic in Lakewood is never an issue. I mean, besides I-90, no street is Lakewood is over 35mph, so you won't speed through the city, but in my 5 years here, I don't think I've ever seen any kind of "traffic jam" in the city. Even when they shut down most of Detroit Rd for the Lakewood Arts Fest, the roads don't get conjested. Lakewood really is a great town. It is called the City of Homes, and most of Lakewood is just street after street of houses...many of which are doubles. Lakewood reminds me more of a small college town than a dense urban suburb. Lots of people describe it as a college town without a college. There are a lot of bars and a lot of twentysomthings. But there are also a lot of families. As far as crime in Lakewood, I would say its pretty low. I've never felt unsafe, and I've done a fair share of walking around in the middle of the night (home from the bars).

Yes, whichever landmark in each city gets the most votes is what goes on the board. The position on the board for that landmark is determined by the total number of votes each city received. So right now we are the new Baltic Ave. I'm sure the PD will run a front page article talking about how Cleveland is the new slums in Monopoly and how it is just part of the "Quiet Crisis"
  23. No, the Donoto's is in that Chalet looking building on the corner of Detroit and W. Clifton. Right next door to that was an old autobody shop that was recently torn down and now has a construction fence around it. Are they actually building a structure there or is it just going to be a parking lot? I'd be surprised if Donoto's wanted to build more parking...their current lot is never full.
  24. Is that what is going in where that old Auto body shop was?

Do not vote for any other cities landmarks! The position each city gets on the board is determined by how many total votes it gets. So the city that gets the most votes (probably NY) will get the Boardwalk space. The city will with the lowest number of votes will be in the dark purple Baltic Ave space. We don't want Cleveland to be the cheapest property on the board. Right now its Cleveland and Phoenix as the cheapest properties. So only vote Cleveland so we can move up to at least the light blue.
