Cleveland: Restaurant News & Info
Deagan's, the restaurant/bar that will be opening soon in downtown Lakewood, posted their menu on Facebook. Looks pretty good, though, at those price points, the food better be good or it could go the way of Route 6. A 30 tap craft beer selection will help their odds of survival. http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=25373&id=119954291365652

UrbanOhio Parents & Families
Thanks. This one surprised us about two weeks early and caught us on a camping trip to Mohican State park. So we are stuck in Ashland for the rest of the weekend...best laid plans. At least we made it to the hospital. Barely. Oh well, mom and baby are healthy and beautiful!

Cleveland: Restaurant News & Info
Melt didn't have brunch buffet or anything like that. They had an expanded waffle menu with like 30 types of waffles on top of their normal grilled cheese menu. They sent out an email about discontinuing brunch basically saying it was too crazy having all the waffles to make on the few waffle makers they could fit in the kitchen so they're just going to have their normal menu on Sundays. When they first opened they had a very small brunch menu with a few omlettes and breakfast items...maybe they'll go back to that.

Cleveland: Ohio City: Development and News
I understand they were forced out, and that's a shame, but they couldn't find a better location to relocate to than Brookpark and Pearl? So many empty spaces along Loraine... too bad something could not have been suitable for them there. The old Peaches place seems huge for the kind of place Athens is. Is next to where the old Mining Company was? Now a 70's and country themed dual club? No, no, they're not IN the old Peaches space, they're in that plaza. It's a very tiny storefront on the end of that strip that sits next to the old Peaches store. It's called the Pearlbrook plaza. There's supposed to be a very good sandwich shop in there called Goodman's, but THEY'RE NOT OPEN ON WEEKENDS so I have never been able to try it. WTF would you have your business in a location like that and not even be open on Saturdays. Goodman's is the best...I like it better than Slymans. Mmm, hand sliced corned beef. And my guess is they are closed on Sat because they rake on weekday lunches. Plus the old guy who cuts the meat needs a couple days off!

The Official *I Love Cleveland* Thread
RR Reservation is accessible from Westpark (Hogsback Rd, right near the lakewood border and also off of Mastick/Puritas) in addition to Lakewood, Rocky River, Fairview Park and North Olmstead. Not sure which city the park land actually resides in.

^Thats too bad. I've eaten there a couple times and liked it well enough. Nothing fancy, but i just stuck with standard diner fare and it was good. I liked that the tartar sauce for my fish sandwich and the dressing on a salad I got were homemade.

NHL vs. NBA ... Fight!
Horrible argument ... here's why: If the NBA was and always has been superior, of course it's going to be covered more! If the NHL has always been inferior (as far as popularity) but is on the rise, then we'll will see sports networks start to pick it up as it wasn't always popular but is starting to (which we're going to and are starting to see). Simple logic folks. I don't get what you are arguing. You're saying that the NBA is more popular and is on more networks? Thats what I'm saying. Sure the NHL is growing. It has to grow, it was almost non-existent 3 years ago (or whenever the lockout was). Here's why the attendance is dropping in the NBA: Its expensive and its easy to watch on TV, so more people stay home. But its still has LOTS of fans. Here's why the NHL attendance is rising: It was at rock bottom a few years ago, and it has a smaller number (compared to the NBA) of very loyal fans. Its hard to watch on TV, so people go to the games. But the TV viewership is very small compared to the NBA. So - NHL(attendance + TV viewership) <<<<< NBA(attendance + TV viewership)

NHL vs. NBA ... Fight!
Here is a quote from that forum link that pretty much says it all. Attendance is not a strong indicator of league success in the era of HDTVs. "There's a very simple reason that attendance has declined in the NBA, and it has nothing to do with the sport's fans losing interest. It's because the NBA is available on a wide variety of television networks that people have actually heard of and have access to. The NBA is on ESPN Wednesdays and Fridays, TNT on Thursdays, and on ABC every Sunday beginning in January. Oh, and the late stages of the playoffs and Finals are also nationally televised on ABC. The NHL? They have that big network contract with ... Versus, which can be found on channel five-hundred-and-something on your local cable or satellite provider. Maybe."

NHL vs. NBA ... Fight!
That SI is from 1994 and the yahoo article is from 2008. The NBA is much more popular than the NHL. Hockey has a smaller number of die-hard fans, so their attendance is always solid, but national interest isn't nearly as high as the NBA. I mean, you can't even watch NHL games on regular TV unless you have something called Vs.

Cleveland: Leveraging Citywide LED Contract for Economic Development
Not sure if this was posted somewhere else, but this is pretty big news. http://www.cleveland.com/cityhall/index.ssf/2010/03/cleveland_mayor_frank_jackson_12.html "The biggest news that emerged from his 34-minute speech, presented by the City Club of Cleveland, was an announcement that the city is finalizing an agreement with a Chinese manufacturer of LED lights to bring its U.S. headquarters to Cleveland. Jackson said Sunpu Opto Semiconductor Co.'s facilities here would include an assembly and manufacturing operation as well as research-and-development facilities that would create as many as 350 "green" jobs."

Cleveland: Shoreway Boulevard Conversion
^Do you really think people around the nation are having a laugh about the I-90 Dead Man's Curve? Doesn't every city have a bend that they call DMC? The Jan and Dean song is about a DMC in LA.

Cleveland: Shoreway Boulevard Conversion
If there are already backups to 117th, then why would it matter if the speed limit is 35 or 50? No one can get up to that speed anyways. So when its busy, the traffic won't move any slower than it does now, because its not going much faster than 35 now. When its not busy, it will only take about 1 min longer (2 miles @ 35mph vs 2 miles @ 50mph)

Just read about a new food truck that should be starting operation soon called Dim and Den Sum: http://www.facebook.com/DimAndDenSum The menu looks awesome. The chefs are the recent chef du cuisine from fire and a chef from the spotted pig in nyc. Looks like they will "park" downtown, csu/phs, near east and west sides and in the hts.

^^I think it counts. While its certainly different than living in Cleveland, downtown Medina is a great, walkable neighborhood. More small town than urban, but thats ok. And its a far cry from living in The Reserve or something like that.
