The Cleveland Public School system has something to do with it because the developer was asking it for money to help build the tower.

Six-story building gets OK in Kent By Diane Smith Reporter Posted Sep 4, 2018 at 5:45 PM A six-story apartment building in downtown Kent, which was called "ghastly" last month by members of the city's architectural review board, got the panel's approval Tuesday. http://www.record-courier.com/news/20180904/six-story-building-gets-ok-in-kent?template=ampart

Cleveland: Downtown: Tower City / Riverview Development
Tower city could be a great location for a food hall, and it fits with the “experiential” idea. That could consume a significant chunk of space.

Lakewood: Downtown: CASTO Development
I think I read in the other thread that the city was in favor of the mid rise version. Does anyone here know where the decision stands or if the high rise version is still a possibility?

Corna sure has some weird concepts. Anyone remember the “Hexatron?”

Plus I think the rooftop amenity / mechanical level will add even more height.

Akron: Downtown: Development and News
Back around the time the lofts first opened, I remember seeing a rendering of townhouses on the north side of the main lofts building, wrapping around the corner on Ridge St. That may be where the next units will be, after the spot on Howard south of the existing townhomes is filled.

Akron: Random Development and News
I highly doubt it. Ikea is known to be very particular with site selection criteria, especially freeway visibility. This site has neither freeway visibility nor close proximity to sufficient household population. Not to mention, the city of Akron has determined this site no longer suitable for retail.

If my math is correct, $30 million payroll and 500 jobs is $60,000 average salary. Seems high for a fulfillment center.

Akron: Downtown: Development and News
July 15, 2018 4:01 am Updated 12 hours ago 'Unprecedented' development is helping to reshape downtown Akron (with timeline) By DAN SHINGLER In Akron these days, it seems you can't wave a loan application or a for-sale sign without a developer tackling you, pen and grand plans in hand. The Rubber City is being vulcanized — Akron's downtown core is on fire with a slew of recent developments, bigger ones in the works and seemingly no end to new projects for which developers are already buying property. The Bowery Project, the Law Building, the City Center Hotel and a yet-to-be unveiled project near Lock 3 that could be the biggest project yet have area developers busy. First mention I've heard of a new project by Testa on Water Street directly behind and facing Lock 3. The story mentions a significant out-of-state office tenant, similar to what IRG is saying about their East End project. http://www.crainscleveland.com/article/20180715/news/168251/unprecedented-development-helping-reshape-downtown-akron-timeline

Kent / Kent State University: Development and News
I drive by this every day and it is really a tight fit on the site. I've been anxiously awaiting a rendering, and now I must say it's very disappointing. More bland and cheap-looking than I would've imagined. Not that student housing is a very high bar, but other recent complexes in Kent are much better than this.

Cleveland: Downtown: The Lumen
I saw this construction timing video yesterday on the Playhouse Square district Instagram account. Interesting to see the crane appear in September. I've been really hoping it shows up before the one at the Beacon comes down so I can get pictures with both in the sky at the same time. At the current rate, I figure the Beacon will top out sometime in June. Anyone know how long they need the crane after that for exterior cladding, etc., other than the structural steel?

Kent / Kent State University: Development and News
This building will be the first phase of the revamped / extended front campus. Entrances at Terrace and Midway are going to be combined into a single entrance. Parking lot in front of White hall turns into green space. This building will be East of White hall facing Main street. A parking deck is part of the first phase also, across the new single entrance drive from the new Business building.

Cleveland: Hotel Development
The market being saturated doesn't mean some of the new projects don't get built. The newer and shinier properties will just push the older properties further toward obsolescence. The public will usually gravitate to the latest and best. I can think of several downtown hotels past their prime.

Cleveland: Downtown: The Beacon
I like it. I'm hoping the graduated facade colors will in reality appear more dramatic than what we can see in the renderings. Also interesting how it somewhat relates to Nucleus via the checkerboard effect, but also to 200 PS via color.

Kent / Kent State University: Development and News
I really wanted to like this. The renderings looked really good. I drive or walk by it several times a week, and as it has been rising, I've felt like it has just taken on such a dominating presence. I was thinking Imperial Star Destroyer. I guess I'll withhold final judgment until it's finished, but as of right now, I just feel it just looks like this massive thing plopped down with no relation to anything going on around it.

Cleveland: Downtown: nuCLEus
Back to the comments regarding the timing of construction start, I seem to remember in the initial flurry of stories about Nucleus where Stark said something to the effect that the aggressive timeline was one of the underpinnings of the rationale for this project. Didn't they even say some of it, perhaps the parking and retail, could be open in time for the RNC? This tells me at the very least, things are taking longer than first envisioned. At worst, it was a lot of hype designed to build momentum for an overly ambitious project.

Cleveland: Warehouse District: Development and News
I'm wondering if the Weston development puts any additional pressure on Stark to get NuCLEus underway? I know the projections for apartment rentals overall are favorable, but given the sheer volume of units in Weston's project, does that make it tougher for Stark to get his financing secured? Thankfully, Stark has a good anchor tenant for the office component (Benesch) and the connections in retail, which seems to be a much bigger part of NuCLEus than with Weston.
