  1. Not sure if it's because this is a photo angle we don't usually see on other projects, but I've never noticed a black surface at the base of a site like this. I wonder if it is some sort of membrane or vapor barrier being used due to the contaminated history of the site.
  2. Kind of like a 2 story foyer or sky lobby there.
  3. They did a nice job matching that brick to the old post office building in the foreground and, I think, some other old buildings on the Kent campus.
  4. I know this sounds crazy, so don't hate on me: Could this possibly be Ikea? The site is big, along a freeway, I think at least partially visible from said freeway, and located somewhat in between the 2 earlier rumored sites (480 & Tiedeman and site along 480 on the other side of Valley View bridge.
  5. It's in the rotating carousel of photos splashed across the main page.
  6. Is it just me or does that one rooftop pic show an image of the Terminal Tower during the 1986 balloon release fiasco near the pool?
  7. Makes me think they don't expect the development next door to materialize anytime soon. I hope it doesn't turn out to be a blank empty wall for decades like the one behind the church on public square.
  8. IKEA to open 8 US stores amid $2.2B investment Updated: Apr. 20, 2023, 1:31 p.m.| Published: Apr. 20, 2023, 12:09 p.m. Swedish-based furniture retailer IKEA is investing $2.2 billion over the next three years to add 17 new U.S. locations - eight stores and nine "plan and order" points - which will create 2,000 new jobs, the company announced Thursday. (AP Photo/Matt Rourke)AP By Zach Mentz, cleveland.com CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa. – Global furniture retailer IKEA is investing $2.2 billion to add 17 U.S. locations over the next three years, the Swedish-based company announced Thursday.https://www.cleveland.com/news/2023/04/ikea-to-open-8-us-stores-amid-22b-investment.html Could we finally be getting an IKEA? I’m pretty sure Cleveland is the biggest US market without one.
  9. Nothing like an updated take on the mansard roof to get us all excited.
  10. Yes, it is. I think it was built as a Holiday Inn. As I recall, they built units similar to this in a number of cities. Driving along I-71 in the late '70s, my dad always felt compelled to say "It's hard to get cornered in that building." Dad humor is timeless, I guess.
  11. @urb-a-saurusYou had something like this in mind?
  12. Won't it be the tallest building on the block, period?
  13. I think Bridgeworks could provide something very close to that experience, and it might be much closer to fruition.
  14. Love seeing the CC and SHW cranes off in the distance. Not a common sight around here, and it still blows me away.
  15. It’s not uncommon for fire departments to do training in structures slated for demolition soon. Suspect that is the case here.
  16. I wonder if they'll change the name of the City Club Building since the City Club is moving, and the City Club apartments are rising next door.
  17. Reminds me of a lot of sentiment at the time I.M. Pei unveiled his expansion to the Louvre.
  18. I guess with the expanded footprint toward the west, the indoor space is so much closer to the science center, so the rationale for connecting them became moot.
  19. I didn't see any mention of an indoor physical connection to the Science Center. Wasn't that part of the last iteration? I wonder if they scrapped that idea.
  20. I had to re-read that, as my lazy skimming mind interpreted it as "our state governor is a buffoon."
  21. I really want to like this building, but I guess I just don’t get it. Those random protrusions… the purple paint… That inverted arc canopy thing on the roof. I know aesthetics are subjective, but this thing just rubs me the wrong way. I hope I like it better when it’s finished.
  22. Is that some kind of surface that concrete doesn't adhere to?
  23. Brewdog’s got to be loving this.
  24. That collection is such a powerful historical artifact. I couldn't find anything on the site to indicate who the photographer is. Does anyone here know who's behind it?
