Cincinnati: Random Development and News
I was walking north on Race toward 5th street to pick up dinner last night and I saw a woman and her daughter looking at the old blue skywalk monoliths. I said "that won't be much help, it's from the 90s". She was looking for shopping and thought maybe the Banks would be good. I directed her toward OTR for boutique shopping but she did not sound convinced. The city needs to get rid of these things and put in place a more up to date map (similar to the ones around OTR, but for the CBD, OTR, and the banks). With that she would have quickly seen that the only thing they can buy at the Banks is a Tervis cup.

Cincinnati: Over-the-Rhine: Development and News
I walk from Nippert to my apartment on 4th and Race all the time at night after FCC games. It's really not bad. Yes, there's more trash and poverty but that doesn't mean it's unsafe. There are more isolated incidents of crime north of liberty but those are typically more gang/drug related. Usually the families hanging outside of their buildings on the Vine street hill ask what the score was as I walk by.

It's sad that Frameri, a local startup, failed and their competition, Warby Parker, will be taking their flagship store space.

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
I live on 4th street so I walk around this area a lot. Just this past week I saw the streetcar waiting between 3rd and 2nd street on 4th, in the northern section of the block. It was very odd to see this and I've never see it do this before. It was waiting there and not advancing to the light. I'm not sure if this is a "dwell time" but I did witness something like this (what greenville2 is describing).

Cincinnati's Homeless Population
This morning on 3rd street around FWW and the area under the overpass (where the redbike station is) there was a much larger than normal number of homeless people. I've lived down on 4th street for the past 4 years and I have not seen something like this. Multiple tents were set up along the street and under the bridge. There was a police officer just standing there watching the group under the overpass. It really looked like the tent cities that have popped up in places like San Francisco. Is this just because it's warm? I have not seen this many people living there (or in tents) and there seemed to be a lot of new faces.

^ that just begs so many questions. Where do you put your groceries? Carry them, balanced on each arm? Or in the backpack? But I feel that wouldn't be a good weight distribution. Seems like way too much work to pick up some groceries.

Cincinnati: General Business & Economic News
Can someone explain to me how much power Peltz has now that he is on the board? Everyone makes it seem like he has more sway or voting power and will take P&G out of Cincinnati. He's just one guy on the board right? What am I missing?

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
We may never know why Mr. Johnson of Franklin, who does not live within and most likely does not work within the City of Cincinnati and therefore does not pay taxes to it, was so concerned about Cincinnati building a streetcar system. Did Clive not realize that we had ~250 miles of communist streetcar track that was built by our forefathers? This quote is at the same time hilarious, sad, and deeply disturbing.

Used to this in old beer can collections; could be part of the ''i'' thing for me and using Cinci. http://breweriana.com/img/product/large/Cinci_Lager_Beer_54aee3d6ac031.jpg Haha that's cool. I've never heard of that Canadian Beer. It can be added to the list of beers that aren't officially related to Cincinnati like Natty Light.

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
For the vernacular: it's Cincy not Cinci. Preferably, Cincinnati. Occasionally, The Nati. Cinti if you are a postal worker. And never Cincinnat-ah. The streetcar is like a plant. You can buy this amazing plant, but if you don't water it, give it good soil, and let it have sunshine, it will die. Cranley and his administration have placed our plant in the closet with no water to see what will happen. And then if it dies they will say "See! it was always a bad plant". Hopefully our plant is some sort of cactus.

joshknut replied to The_Cincinnati_Kid's post in a topic in Restaurants, Local Events, & EntertainmentI'm upset about these places insisting on having a suburban location too. I guess the silver lining is that they won't be a slammed on the weekends with suburbanites when I want to go.

It looks like there is also a PNC Bank parcel too. I'm not sure why Provident Bank is listed still as owners (since they were bought out by National City, then PNC) but the Elder Carl Lindner used to hold controlling interest in Provident Bank (conspiracy theories anyone?). Maybe all of these are PNC controlled?

Cincinnati: West End: TQL Stadium
Everyone always talks about the "huge" number of property owners for the West End site. But take a look at this rendering of the West End site and then pull up CAGIS. I count 6 property owners: Board of Education, City of Cincinnati, Lighthouse Ministries, Provident Bank, Run in Run Out LLC, and Brooks Stoney Lee. The vast majority of the space is owned by the board of education. Is it really unrealistic to buy these properties? If FCC really wanted this area, the song and dance routine with Oakley and Newport would be exactly the thing to make Lighthouse ministries not hold out on a good offer (for a crazy high offer).

That's right, the Otte carpet building. I couldn't remember the name. So not too many details yet. Thanks for the update.
