  1. Here's an updated picture of the Sears building. Sorry for the poor quality, since I was actively driving.
  2. It will still be good fodder come election time for Simpson
  3. I know every bit helps, but having that status did not keep other buildings or districts in Cincinnati from the wrecking ball (i.e. The Albee Theater)
  4. I rode it a few times over the weekend and there were families doing the same thing. They would announce to each other "I think we've done the loop". I use it usually every weekend and recently it seems as if the frequency of the streetcars has greatly improved. I was able to successfully take it to dinner in OTR on Friday (with extra time to spare before a reservation) and take it to Findlay for groceries on Saturday. As these problems get ironed out and it becomes more reliable and faster, there will be an uptick in usage again. For the time being we just have to ignore the noise from the opposition, since in the long run they will be proven wrong.
  5. And just so people know, he took the streetcar on last Thursday night which was one of the coldest nights of the year.
  6. This was hidden in Paul Daugherty's article today after all the Bengal's stuff. It's a jab at the streetcar. "Took the empty streetcar loop all the way around, getting off at Fountain Square for hot chocolate at Graeter’s. It was sad. The car was empty, save for us. We had to wait 15 minutes for its arrival. The recorded PA announcing next stops was completely screwed up. Maybe we’ll try it again in the summer, if the kinks are ironed out. But it’s certainly not on the Must Do List. Which is the only way it’s going to survive, given it doesn’t go anywhere people work." 7. What do you think the article will say when numbers go back up for December? Are we really going to have an real-time article every month on numbers? This is non-news, but we all know that.
  8. Just curious if anyone is familiar with the St Louis MetroLink. It crosses state lines from Illinois to Missouri. I know we've talked about potentially extending the streetcar to KY and have mentioned the legal issues with such a system. What are the politics around this system? How is it funded? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MetroLink_(St._Louis) I think this would be a good example of a light rail system to a comparable MSA (2.8 million versus 2.1 million).
  9. Of course it was an inside deal. Shame on 3CDC? I don't think they had a choice. Their board is all the old money from places like Western and Southern. The Barrett's and the Joseph's are old friends.
  10. A public service is not equivalent and should not be compared to a beer company. Better comparisons would be roads, trash collection, etc.
  11. Enquirer is reporting on this now too: Streetcar ridership numbers way short of projections http://cin.ci/2gOwiOx

if it moved to that location, maybe the old Metropolitan Theater could get new life as a theater again.
  13. Northside Distillery expanding to Race Street. I'm glad something is going into this space. Has anyone tried their booze? http://www.bizjournals.com/cincinnati/news/2016/12/01/northside-distillery-expands-downtown.html
  14. Yes, the windows are still blocked and contained AC units. I've never been inside, but I imagine the windows were blocked to help with temperature control since they had furniture for sale on each floor.
  15. Wow. Just because you don't like classical music does not mean Music Hall should be converted into something else. This conversation is officially ridiculous. I'm in my early 30s and I enjoy going to the symphony or opera just as much as going to a concert at the Woodward. Just because your taste in music has tunnel vision and classical music makes you cranky enough to keep posting about this, does not mean the historic building should be changed into something other than a music venue. I go to the CSO, the Pops, the opera, and soon the ballet at this location and will take my future children there as well. It's not just "old people" who enjoy this type of music. Many of us who play instruments and were classically trained really enjoy listening to the "boring European" music as much as any other genre of music. I enjoy jazz and big band just as much (in fact I had the Blue Wisp Big Band play at my wedding), but I do not think as a city we should just trash our historic symphony, opera, ballet, and May Festival. This would be equivalent to a "Cultural Urban Renewal" and is garbage.
  16. I live in the CBD on 4th street and I use the streetcar for my grocery shopping on weekends. I do most of my shopping at Findlay and the streetcar makes this gem "closer" to me. In addition, I've used Red Bike to go to the Vine street Kroger and then used the streetcar to get back home. There are plenty of other uses for this than just lunch crowds/tourists. Pretty much whenever I want to go to OTR and it's not nice enough to bike/walk, the streetcar is a welcome transit option. I think the idea that as the weather turns colder that people will use it less is not completely true, since it's going to be great to have when it's freezing and I need to get to Findlay. Unfortunately, I work mostly at UCMC and I am unable to take the streetcar to work. I know many resident physicians who live in the CBD and would use this daily if there was the opportunity. In order to see commuter numbers increase, it needs to be expanded.
  17. The apartment manager for my 4th and Race building sent this out today: "October 24 - November 6 Race Street will be completely closed to through traffic from 5th Street to 4th Street, for the demolition of the skywalk." So the skywalk is coming down soon!
  18. It seems as if the convention center is where we put our relics of beautiful things we've destroyed (The Albee). Maybe Mr Joseph can take all those facades from the 80s he tore down and line them on 4th street. And when the Dennison goes we can stuff its bricks somewhere on the building too.
  19. The Sycamore lot owned by the Joseph family?

  22. Izzy's, many years ago before Izzy Kadetz was forced to move his restaurant, was a true kosher NY style deli (not kosher-style, meaning no reubens - I heard he didn't serve one without cheese either). It's funny because now they say "World's Greatest Reubens". It would have been something to see having the two of them yell at each other and have him charge random prices. http://www.nkytribune.com/2016/05/our-rich-history-izzys-is-example-of-local-business-rich-in-food-ambience-and-theatrics-too/
  23. SF has a lot of transit only lanes with street parking. In this area though the cars and parking are all on one side with the transit in the middle. People are wondering about traffic flow if we make transit only lanes and it seems to work fine in SF with reducing each car direction to one lane. https://www.google.com/maps/@37.7904453,-122.4088791,3a,75y,357.87h,87.63t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1s4l2gGopAl4W8xXRJcOhN7w!2e0!7i13312!8i6656
