Cleveland: Scranton Peninsula: Development and News
Thanks, Ken - Fantastic views of the Peninsula - and makes it clear that Scranton might really boom over the coming years - I hope these initial apartment projects turn out optimally. The whole look there is about to change in a very modern, urban way. A whole neighborhood eventually down there would be really amazing... Hopefully, those that are planning the area's development will have high standards...

Cleveland: Downtown: Justice Center Complex Replacement
I’d be extremely concerned about tearing the Justice Center because of a new “vision”. Visions are wonderful and I’m not criticizing the new mayor and leadership if they have one (I appreciate the new energy in the mayor’s office (from what I understand) But visions require a lot of “things” to go right in terms of money. And the last thing we need is another Jacob’s lot scenario which turned into a 30 year parking lot. As for the actual conversion challenges of the JC - I’m sure they are formidable - but those high ceilings could be an extremely appealing inducement for residential - and big balconies would only add to the appeal- especially with the amazing views that location provides. Now if the new vision is a ready- to-go 40 story residential tower, I can change my mind…

Cleveland: Downtown: Tower City / Riverview Development
A significant jazz bar downtown is, to me, a priority - and it wouldn’t have to have “national” names every week - but, at least, some major artists sometimes. There’s nothing like that now.

Cleveland: Downtown: Justice Center Complex Replacement
The kinds of square footage numbers that @KJPwas referring to at the higher end, could make this courthouse tower one of the largest ones in the U.S. - of course, the current JC houses correction centers and Cleveland Police HQ. Just for comparison, the largest single Courthouse Tower in the U.S. is the Eagleton Courthouse in St.Louis, which covers close to a million square feet and is that city’s 3rd highest at 557’ (just short of the tallest building there by about 30 feet) I don’t think we’d complain about adding a building along these lines…

Cleveland: Downtown: Justice Center Complex Replacement
I hope the JC can be repurposed. If for no other reason- from a sorta selfish standpoint of not losing our 8th tallest building. Especially one on the west side of downtown. With the SW Tower nearby, the JC won’t stand out as much - big skylines all have their “infill” buildings - not everything is a TT or a Chrysler building, obviously. I’m sure it would be a mammoth project but what an interesting one it would be if they were able to somehow convert it. Of course, if I was to learn that someone was eyeing that sight for a new 400’ building - especially a residential one - I’d change my tune…

For sure, the Haslams will be salivating after seeing that proposed palatial venue in Jacksonville. Wonder how much it is going to cost and who is paying. When the new or rebuilt Browns stadium is eventually built, I hope it’s a not another half-assed version that we have to redo in another 20 years. But keeping up with the Jones’s in the NFL is getting incredibly expensive.

She made maybe her first national tv appearance today as ABC News used the Cleveland skyline to show the haze in the Midwest after showing the almost invisible NY skyline today. A sad occasion but knowing There will be many many more during those Browns, Guardians and Cavs wins to come (😉) is a good feeling!

If they EVER make a decision to build a new Justice Center tower - would locating it next to the Stokes Courthouse be a viable location?

Wow, that 2nd photo! @Paul in Cleveland What a beauty … I’m getting a little “Philly” vibe the way the new tower looks at the end of the avenue. Loving watching this thing grow up!

If you missed @js_bsg’s post on the Welleon project in the Detroit-Shoreway thread the other day, you missed some great pics of the rooftop pool’s view - including a nice perspective of the SW Tower rising in the skyline

First off, thanks to @dave2017and @Ray45afor the great rendering. I originally wanted the tower right off P.S., probably like many on the Forum - but this view really shows the new symmetry around the Square beautifully. Obviously, the look will be different depending on where you're viewing from. This may become a more popular perspective of the city in terms of media. Just being a skyline nerd for a moment - My fantasy (but possible) is that we get to see a high tower rising on the Nucleus site within the decade - and at least the beginning of that trumpeted Bedrock Riverfront development (I'm more dubious about the that) it's also very possible that we'll have at least a new 300 foot tower to the immediate left of the main SW Tower in the not-too-distant future. But already - with the new "4th Big" rising fast - our town seems to have a distinctly more "big city" look to it. And at many times of the day, the "blue" of the new SW Tower will probably stand out more, providing a more modern look against the buildings just behind the Terminal Tower. And as @FerrariEnzoshowed us - I also like the way that the position of the tower sort of "opens up" P.S. to feel a little larger while still providing that cozy feeling we haven't had for many years on the unfinished (till now) western side - and I don't think the pavilion with its very low profile will change that.

The new lighting that will extend down from Public Square may really add a dynamic element at Playhouse Square, too. Exciting!

Cleveland: Lakefront Development and News
I’m hoping that the RRHOF realizes (eventually) that a largely out door concert venue with views of the lake and/or downtown would be a simply stunning showcase for the city and could become a more regularly utilized and loved aspect of the hall. I realize that it would have to be a seasonal venue - a la Blossom -but how cool would it be to sit by the lake for a summer concert downtown? I know there will be some type of larger space for performances with the expansion, but I don’t know too many details - perhaps others can comment. I’ve always felt that live (and recorded) performance should be a more critical component of the Hall. A “rock n roll” museum in general should break conventions - in addition to the traditional museum displays of outfits, guitars, lyric sheets and the like… And luring people back to the museum and the lakefront experience again and again - what better way than via concert performances?

That glass looks pretty darn nice to me! The way it will reflect buildings from around the square is really going to be sweet! I don’t know, I think we could’ve sucked it up and made it work even if the tower would’ve had to rival Key Tower in height. 😉

Cleveland: Downtown Parks & Public Spaces - Development/Construction
Really interesting article shared by @sonisharri- turns out Public Square has long suffered from trying to be public space, park and transit hub simultaneously. I’m one that would love to see no traffic intersecting the square - reroute buses around it - the extra few minutes would be absorbed, life would go on just fine - and the space would feel more expansive, recreational and aesthetically pleasing. But I understand that this might be a minority opinion and one previously debated…. Anyway, check out the article if you haven’t already

I hope all those that immediately stop thinking with the subject of a new stadium and go to their automatic default position - “I wouldn’t contribute a dollar of public money to a billionaire like Haslam” at least take time to read the article. Cleveland has the opportunity and time to make a “game changing” decision - if it opens the lakefront for development and public use instead of keeping the factory of sadness where it is.

Cleveland: Downtown: Playhouse Square Development and News
It’s so gratifying - a source of pride - to see the revitalization of the theaters at Playhouse Square - and the various improvements in the theater district over these last years- from the Chandelier to these new marquis’. When you think of the various big changes either recently completed - or now set for development - from Public Square (with a new SW skyscraper) to Playhouse Square and Euclid Avenue’s boom - to Irishtown Bend, University Circle’s rise, Ohio City’s growth - and hopefully, the biggest of all - the opening of a new lakefront - this town is very different -from not very long ago. And just imagine what the next decade might bring, if we have the will to make it happen.
