  1. “Already forgot about that” sounds like the Dream Hotel May be a bit more fanciful, at this point, then a reasonable bet to move forward. Am I reading things incorrectly?
  2. What would be enlightening would be to hear some actual details/news pertaining to what Kerry McCormack alluded to - that there are conversations happening about this area. Wonder what kind of conversation and who is part of it.
  3. There are going to be a lot more people very close with easy access to that area in the very near future - if you think of that area As part of a larger connected network of walkable and bike able paths and trails around downtown and neighborhoods like Ohio City you might think a little differently about it’s potential. There’s no reason to go there now but that doesn’t mean it has to be that way in the future.
  4. I’m nominating @urbanetics_for mayor - imagine the look of the city after one term with him at the helm! It’s so much about vision and creative thinking. We’ve all seen those home remake shows where creative designers transform a living space or an entire house. Afterwards, you wonder how the redo wasn’t obvious to everyone before! Imagining a streetscape or vista in a new way requires passion , creativity and vision. Cleveland is a city that has the potential to transform into one of America’s great cities in which to live. In certain ways we know that to be true already. I know it’s been said many times before - but every time I see a new transformational vision like what Ian presented - it reminds me of the still untapped potential of this town. To be sure, there are huge challenges ahead, but I still feel a sense of excitement about what’s to come and what is possible and I really appreciate the insights of contributors here on this forum. Props to those like Mr. McCormack that are working another Kind of creativity - the political heavy lifting to turn visions into reality.
  5. I think they knocked it out of the park with this design. And I bet this building will ultimately fill up very quickly. Just a great vibe and a majority of the views in that building will be unrivaled for a long time to come.
  6. I like the looks of that big-boy skyline! Thanks, @KJP
  7. I missed Throwback Thursday by an hour, but I hope y'all don't mind (especially @KJP) a request for a "mid-year/6 months later check-in" on this graphic from the NeoTrans article of January 20th. The good news is that there has been so much development already started or recently announced -especially surprises like the Viaduct Tower and Dream Hotel. Considering the completed or recently started projects of just the last few years, it's been pretty impressive. And thanks to SW and some of those surprise projects, it seems like the crisis hasn't slowed down plans for the future. Revisiting the chart above, I wondered about the "planned but can't announce unidentified projects" - and whether there's anything at all on the rumor front. Or maybe that we could hear that "something" of an update is on the near horizon. Sorry for the request, It's a bit of a half court shot but I thought I'd give it a try! ?@KJP, any of the UO superstars? I have a strong suspicion I'm not the only one interested.
  8. Are there any city zoning requirements for the redevelopment of property following removal or demolition of functional buildings? Or is it simply -whoever owns it can tear it down?
  9. That is a great one stop shop for all the pending projects - it’s impressive when you go through it - a lot of things that are fairly solid bets with a few that are less certain, of course, but nicely done.
  10. If a renovation of 55 Public Square is done on the very high level of projects like The May and Euclid Grand - factoring in a presumably iconic SW HQ Tower, and Cleveland arguably will have one of the country's most attractive public squares. ( We'll work on those barriers..)
  11. https://www.cleveland.com/entertainment/2020/08/d*ck-goddard-1931-2020-a-legendary-life-in-cleveland-tv.html This one seems to work. For those that didn't see the old weatherboard - love the temps rounded to 5's and 0's and the big snowflakes....
  12. I posted this in local celebrities - but probably should've put it here.. Yeah, I'm old enough to remember the old weather board that is pictured in the link! - seeing it brought back childhood memories. Goddard was THE weatherman if you grew up in Cleveland - for many years. And there's something special about a hometown celebrity that made you feel like you knew him personally, even though you didn't. Maybe because you often watched him 5 times a week. I remember my Dad "shushing" me because his weather forecast "was on". Can't help but to feel nostalgic this evening thinking about the familiar faces on Cleveland TV from those years. Mr. Goddard was a class act with a career in Cleveland media that's unlikely to be surpassed by anyone. Here's to the "Woollybears" and "mostly sunny" skies. https://www.cleveland.com/entertainment/2020/08/d*ck-goddard-1931-2020-a-legendary-life-in-cleveland-tv.html

  14. This is a case where I wanna have my cake and eat it too - missing the curvature of the original 10 story plan - liking the 30% increase in height - but given this address I would love to have both - maybe it will still get a final design change. As far as “too much glass?” Naw. Bring it on !
  15. Latest Cleveland Business Development letter from the Downtown Cleveland Alliance features this sunny pic of The May with the Terminal Tower towering in the background. So great to have these classic buildings restored to greatness and now coming alive with residents. The flowers and trees framing these buildings create a postcard-perfect image. You've got to feel good for everyone that worked so hard to make that restoration of The May such a success. Thanks for the article DCA!
  16. If it’s Gensler, they sure have no problem designing an iconic skyscraper.
  17. My question is - how long is the Brad Hand failed experiment going to go on ?
  18. A slight tangent - but - wow, great view of Public Square from the 13th floor! I just wish there was more “green” and a little less concrete - and, of course, no Jersey Barriers. But still, Cleveland has a great Public Square.
  19. I know that speculation is frowned upon particularly in the SW thread-and I’m not doing that - but based on the information in the weekend’s NEOtrans article, if a 2nd building does rise with the main HQ tower, it could easily be as tall as 55 Public Square. And we already know given the predicted square footage and available footprint - that the HQ should conservatively rival 200 Public Square. Point being, Cleveland’s western side of downtown - an often more photographed and less dense vista - will be significantly improved as a skyline perspective. Add in a new 27 story residential tower (even in the Flats) and the rising projects in Ohio City - and the skyline should have a more extended and terraced feel on the western edge. So the next few years bode well for us skyline enthusiasts that have been wishing we could somehow add “a few new towers” to buff up downtown. (And remember, there may be yet another major tower awaiting in the form of a new Justice Center. ). So while we await the big reveal from SW, we can relish the beginning of the slightly delayed roaring 20’s!
  20. Even this got me stoked! ?
  21. Sometimes it feels like the powers that be at CSU want it to have some of the flavor of a Kent State -with sprawling lawns for students to walk across. CSU should fully embrace its status as a downtown urban University (which makes it attractive - particularly as the city core continues to become more dynamic and pedestrian friendly ) in all planning and building design going forward. They don’t need setbacks for lawns. From what KJP wrote in his late June article, there are big plans for CSU’s future - I hope there are many voices consistent with @PoshSteve’s post above. And I’ll take a new 350’ tower as part of it!
  22. Wouldn’t it be something if just one time we could experience a sort of Frank Capra moment (“It’s A Wonderful Life” director, kids) when everybody agreed and embraced something that’s great for the city - even though they might lose their personal view or have to endure construction activity. Maybe if they thought about how a state of the art residential tower could actually enhance and even transform their neighborhood Into something greater. I know it’s wishful thinking - but damn, that would be sweet. Anyway, props to Jatsek and his team for their commitment.
  23. @KJP (or any well-informed UO folks) do you see any realistic possible scenario whereby Erieview gets new life with residential conversions?
