  1. Wow, that one gets a nomination for best pic of the year on UO!
  2. It’s going to look magnificent. Not a lot of cities even have that kind of history available for restoration.
  3. “Pretty cool little article” to say the least Ken! Congrats on a superb bit of journalism. Congrats to Cleveland for one of the most important “gets” in decades! And though our dreams of a”Supertall” have effectively ended, a 40 story state of the art tower could still be as high as 200 Public Square - and, with the unique design we’re hearing about, join our big 3 in terms of impact.

Just watched the Seattle game. I try not to get too crazy after one game but after watching 6 games this Freddie Kitchens team looks much more like Hugh Jackson’s team - than what we saw during Greg Williams’ tenure. We’ve got more talent - but the crucial penalties, lack of execution and sloppiness is beyond frustrating. 0-3 at home and N.E. After the bye week. Not good.
  6. I’d like to see that many pedestrians again in a pic!
  7. What Yabo said...and I’ve said it previously - now Rhodes Tower is more connected...

    Nightmarish first half against 49ers.
  9. Maybe the pic was taken at 7 am on Sunday....
  10. Transformative! My favorite new Cleveland building of the century thus far - and I like the Hilton, Beacon and EY tower -along with the courthouse tower which has become one of the marquis buildings due to its location. These buildings are all symbols of Cleveland’s progress but the Lumen is the most surprising and it’s context in playhouse square puts it front and center in extending downtown and pushing our skyline east.
  11. I have to say, you’re right about the traffic - I’m amazed by how little there is in any downtown pic, save a game or special event. At almost any hour/day. But the Lumen looks fantastic! I want another one!
  12. Ok so we can revitalize the street by taking more people off of it? Who’s on the design commission??
  13. Skyline Tower appears to have a 2-3 story lighted section at the top, possibly where mechanicals are enclosed. That would be very cool for the top of the Lumen - but looking at the renderings Im wondering how much of that top floor is a high ceiling pent house - the balconies seem to be located between floors 6 and 33, at least on the eastern side. Anyone who knows for sure, please enlighten me!
  14. Jersey City for the best view of lower Manhattan at least on the Jersey side. I’m surprised Newark’s on the list, except that it has been underpriced and undesired compared to other cities near NY. In Cleveland’s case, I think it’s much more complimentary being on that list.
  15. It will be an interesting off-season for the Indians. What will the front office do this winter? Last year, They were willing to bet that they could win the Central while down-scaling the payroll and letting some key players go (e.g. bullpen help and Brantley's outfield bat). Their young starting pitching staff has matured more quickly than any of us expected and kept us in contention till late in the season. But there are major questions. What will Kluber's future look like? How will they address the deficits in the bullpen and in the hitting. How will the "Lindor window" be treated? Will they recognize that the team can return to the playoffs with an absence of historic bad luck and injuries next year? What is the balance between fan support and ownership's mettle? Indians payroll was 19th in the league this season and their attendance was 21st - not great, but not terrible considering the high number of home dates in a cold April this year. (The division winning Twins had 2.2 million home attendance to the Indians' 1.7 million.) . The fan base here is clearly frustrated after the disappointing endings of the 17 and 18 campaign and the perceived lack of championship intentions in the off season. And, generally, playoff teams have a significantly higher payroll than the Indians - not withstanding the Twins, the top 10 is filled with the likes of the Red Sox, Yankees, Dodgers, Cubs, Astros, Nationals and Cardinals. Francona is clearly a world-class manager, but he owns a disturbing annual trend late season - an inability to win must-win games. From the World Series 3-1 heartbreak through to this year's 4-6 record over the last 10, the Indians must change that trend to play October baseball next year. In the meantime, Go Browns....
  16. They would’ve had a much harder sell selling potential renters on that view. It’s not so much the back of the Keith Building as what is immediately behind it.
  17. Does Nucleus have to be done in one phase? Couldnt Stark build the residential tower first?
  18. Nice!! And just think how even greater it’s going to look with the SW Tower in the reflection too! (Hopefully)
  19. From the insights and news we've been hearing on this forum (and seeing - e.g. renovations at RMFH), a Cleveland home seems to be the clear preference for SW. But as any profitable corporation would, I'm certain SW will complete its process in considering any compelling offers from competing cities. Would Cleveland get a chance to match any competitors offer? Given the number of hometown employees, company history, etc. - I think, yes. Has a final decision already been made? I don't know. In the meantime, it's pretty interesting speculating on what a new Cleveland HQ might actually look like and exactly where it will be. Over the past few weeks, I've imagined a possible super tall skyline changer, as I'm sure others have. I've also known that such a tower was far from a "fait accompli". But assuming SW stays in Cleveland and specifically on Public Square (and the "Superblock")- - I'll go back to dimensions for a moment. KJP says that Morikis may have moved away from the 2014-2015 HQ version we've seen in the "Amazon" renderings. "Down with CTown" and "FrmrCLEder" provided some good guesses and comparisons for height based on a "new" 40 story tallest tower. It would be somewhere between the 526' of the 40 story Erieview Tower to perhaps as high as 800' with consistently expansive stories. That huge range of possibility is very important. Either way, I'll be thrilled to finally see the missing tower rise on Public Square. In addition to the sheer economic and business impact, the new HQ will be a very powerful symbol for Cleveland. But given that the new tower will be there for generations - I hope SW's aspirations are more in the 800' range and not content to be the 4th highest building on Public Square. I may be too tower-centric for some - certainly, the possibility of an SW campus erasing parking lots is equally significant and great reason for celebration. And yet, is there a more powerful symbol for a city's growth (or Renaissance) than the rise of a true skyline changing skyscraper? Most of us grew up inspired by the Terminal Tower (and later, the Key Tower) reaching skyward elegantly and boldly. Currently, we're seeing how just one new skyscraper in PlayHouse Square can change the dynamic of an entire neighborhood downtown. It's my hope that SW is committed to continuing its business and community legacy in Cleveland. But I'm sure I'm not alone in hoping that it builds a HQ which shares the world-class architectural aspirations of its hometown and specifically, its great neighbors that look over Public Square.
  20. Progressive is such a great park in which to enjoy a baseball game. The connectivity to the city, as was the goal of the recent renovations, is outstanding. There are a lot of cool neighborhoods within the park and the experience there reflects the culture/ personality of the city nicely. It’s another one of Cleveland’s jewels to be proud of.
  21. I’m not a Pittsburgh fan but they did add a 564’ tower 4 years ago.
  22. Playhouse Square Rocks!
  23. Not quite sure where to post this comment - but I’ve never seen as many great and “different” perspectives of downtown as I did on Sunday night’s nationally televised Browns game on NBC. Thought they did a great job of showcasing the city and it was a beautiful night - other than the way the game ended. Great looks for CLE including a noisy packed stadium.
  24. Great news! Thanks for another great article to KJP - much appreciated. To focus on the residential aspect of the plan - It's a major step forward for the lakefront, one which so many of us have been hoping for for so long. Modern new residences right on the water, in such a unique neighborhood, will be a great look for the city - an incentive that land-locked cities small and large will not be able to match, given our coastline. The lifestyle afforded in this development will be a tempting lure for the kind of new talent and entrepreneurs that may want to make Cleveland home (or home again.) Here's hoping that this is one project that becomes a reality, without significant delay or downsizing.
  25. Well said, Freethink - Stark’s blog is a not very subtle statement about how, for ”some reason”, things that move pretty quickly in other cities take a lot longer in Cleveland. And I may be reading too much into it, but it suggests that, as frustrated as we all are with the stop/start/hype/silence of Nucleus, Ezra’s view, though less Glizy than than Bob’s, is still confident about his ability to deliver the project. I think KJP’s comment that the project “ is not dead” is instructive. For the moment, given the reality of The Beacon, after a long wait, I’m going to give Stark the benefit of the doubt - though I do think Bob was initially hyping a vision of it that was beyond his reach. Hopefully, when all is said and done, and I hope soon, the project does make it to the finish line. Even in it’s more modest version, it will contribute greatly to the city.
