Cleveland: Downtown: Sherwin-Williams Headquarters
It they’ve already made a decision and it’s actually a decision to move, it’s the best kept secret ever. It would be a decision that would be a devestating blow to Cleveland, and I would like to think that SW would at least have some simpático for the city given its 90 year history and give it a fair chance to match any other cities incentives package.

Cleveland Guardians Discussion
The Indians surrendered their division crown, at home, yesterday in the day/night double header against the Twins. They were besieged with injuries this season and the bullpen was a fundamental problem. Their young starters kept them in the race - and you can make the argument that Terry Francona did one of his best managing jobs considering the personnel changes, top to bottom. But the truth is that this Francona era, highly successful in terms of total season wins/losses has also produced a legacy where legendary possibilities became crushing disappointments, from the 3-1 lead against the Cubs, to the 2-0 lead on the Yankees in 2017, to the sweep by the Astros in 2018 to this year’s phoenix-like return from a 11 1/2 game deficit only to possibly miss the post season entirely. We’ll see about that over the remaining 13 games - redemption is still possible in the form of a wildcard but the odds are mounting against that.

Good- that’s exactly what he should be saying.

Sounds like complete panic in the CLE! Reminds me of a certain basketball situation.....

Cleveland: Downtown: Sherwin-Williams Headquarters
Not to be a contrarian here, but I’m a cautious Cleveland supporter...The leadership of the city of Cleveland should not assume that the SW announcement is just a misdirection. (Even though it may in fact be a leverage play) The city should aggressively move to put together the most attractive deal that guarantees SW’s new world headquarters is built downtown. Despite the historical connection between SW and Northeast Ohio, I think it’s not impossible that a huge corporation could make what seems an unthinkable move - if there’s enough motivation from a competing city, be it Columbus, Minneapolis or someone else. So here’s to Cleveland leadership remaining aggressive and closing the deal. Imagine the impact of SW locating downtown in that mighty new world headquarters on public square - that cannot be allowed to not happen.

I’m surprised the Wikipedia article even includes the SW headquarters - listing it at 669’ with completion over a 6 year range between 2019 and 2025. Unless that was the height of a pre-Valspar tower that SW was once considering.. The article also has Nucleus listed at 650’ and being completed in 2019, so we know the information is at best, not accurately updated - and, at worst, fake news.

Thanks for the video, Murray Hill - the Lumen really extends the downtown cityscape along Euclid. Can’t wait to see it top out!

Cleveland Browns Discussion
A ridiculously bad performance for a season opener at home by the new, apparently same old Browns . Undisciplined, unprepared and even more disappointing than usual - way too much hype for a team that hasn’t won a thing yet.. Freddie and the boys have a lot of work to do and quickly.

Doesn’t make sense to me - a project the size of the SW headquarters wouldn’t fit into Nucleus, it would simply replace it at its location - don’t think the two projects are compatible given the large residential component of Nucleus. And though the Nucleus site is very attractive, I can think of no more prestigious site for a landmark Cleveland corporate giant than Public Square. I tend to agree with the Htsguy misinformation theory!

Mercado makes an amazing, game saving catch to rescue the Indians tonight against the way under 500 White Sox - that’s great. The huge problem - since late June, Brad Hand’s ERA is over 7 - with 6 blown saves. Shaking my head.

Since Stark chose to tell the public about how his Nucleus was going to help transform Cleveland (as he did on numerous occasions for 5 years) , he should now take time to update us about what his plans for the project are now.

Cleveland: Downtown: The Beacon
I wish one of “Stark’s other tweets” was about how Nucleus was actually going forward. And specifically on the Beacon, I’ve been wondering if we’re still going to see the signage atop the Tower.

I’d be fine with having ASPhotoman design the actual tower! Like most, I would love to see Cleveland get a 1000 footer. Remembering our proud history of having the country’s tallest building outside NY for many years - it would be a statement about this city’s resilience in a new century. But even something a bit taller than the Terminal Tower would be a blockbuster - and especially with the right design, positively change the skyline for the long-waiting-faithful and a new generation headed back to the city.

Great post by Boomerang- very enlightening (pun intended) I know opinions will vary - I happen to think the revised design is more unique and generally dressier. As any theatrical performer knows, better to make an impression - one way or another. The revision, to me, says “theatre district” more than “office”. I’m sure that was the idea..

Cleveland: Rocket Arena (Gund Arena)
The lighting looks fantastic! So glad this project came to fruition. I don’t know about how the Cavs will fare this year, but this building is really going to make the neighborhood pop at night! Looking forward to the grand opening.

We don’t have a closer. Brutal performance by Hand tonight (again). Tito has got to put loyalty to this guy second to the team. It’s not just one blown save - everybody has a bad game - this is 4 in a row (counting a Yankees game we won despite 2 in the ninth) Hand must be given relief as closer before he “singlehandedly” kills the season. The question is - who can do it?

It’s hard not to get the feeling that Stark has been moving the goalposts in negotiations with the city ever since the original Nucleus proposal died. It’s almost as if he just wasn’t all in on the scaled down Nucleus. And like the kid who doesn’t get his way, instead of closing the deal that was supposedly very close here, he’s taking his toys to play elsewhere- in Pittsburgh, apparently. So much for the great proponent of Cleveland. But I’m sure there’s blame enough to go around to city leadership. Taking KJP’s report at face value, the project is either dead or on another extensive hold - and love it or not love it, Nucleus would’ve been a continuation of the hot construction trend we’ve seen downtown. It would’ve greatly infused a high visibility area poised to become much more dynamic. City leadership and Stark should’ve worked harder to bring this to the finish line. If it is dead, it’s a major loss for Cleveland.

Cleveland: Downtown: The Beacon
The juxtaposition of different eras and styles tends to be more obvious and dissonant when there are fewer buildings - but as the skyline continues to evolve and grow over time, I think the diversity can make things more dynamic and interesting. I like the contemporary leanings of the Hilton.

Cleveland: Downtown: Sherwin-Williams Headquarters
I sent my email to the mayor’s office- I know, on its own, that it has no cache. But hopefully, there will be many others including those with more important voices reminding our leadership that losing SW downtown is really not acceptable. This proud city has done much to shake off its old, unfairly negative image and has some real momentum but it’s still in a fight for its continued relevancy and Renaissance in the 21st century. I hope there is a sense of urgency on the part of city leadership to do whatever is creatively possible to keep this corporation downtown. (And I sure wouldn’t mind seeing a new tower rise on public square!)

Um, Exactly what part of Cleveland is that night time shot on their website?

Cleveland: Hotel Development
Great news! I’d love to see some world class ornamentation/lighting done to the top of this beauty. This tower has a classic elegance and it would be awesome to see it become an upscale hotel address.

Cleveland: Downtown: The Beacon
I know this is a Beacon thread - and, yes, it looks great helping fill in a former big gap in the skyline - but, I just gotta say that last shot by W153 really shows off the nearly 700 foot 200 Public Square from its most elegant Perspective. You’re looking good on national TV this week, Cleveland!
