  1. The repurposing of Burke Lakefront land seems to be, unbelievably, , a total non-topic to the so-called leaders of Cleveland - showing a complete lack of vision . 450 acres of prime real estate ( more than Cedar Point) on a coastline immediately adjacent to downtown - an area where thousands might want to live - where so many possibilities for exciting residential developments and offices and shopping could become a dynamic 21st century success story. Why is Burke so “protected” by certain interests? Its regional importance has greatly declined with the downward trend in population over the last decades. Burke produced just over 100,000 flights (either landing or taking off ) less than 20 years ago in 2000. Last year, the number had plummeted to 38,000 for the year. And more importantly, the possibilities for how Burke’s land could transform the waterfront and the city were not being explored. Has there even been a study of the airport’s necessity in 2018 and going forward? A “Scene” article from April of this year Did a great job rausing questions and challenged the status quo of Burke and the lack of interest by Cleveland’s mayor. There are no doubt excuses and talking points as to why The Burke land cant be repurposed - but there is a shameful lack of interest and significant discourse about this vital piece of land and its dramatic potentual - I believe Cleveland deserves that discussion.
  2. What specific changes to Nucleus would you recommend in order to make the project more viable?
  3. That's so great to see...the other night on a nationally televised Cavs' game, one of the camera shots showed the Beacon starting to peak into the skyline, with the crane obviously visible above.. A sign of vitality! (By the way, some of those NBA games really show some great shots of the city)
  4. It’s an embarrassment that the Jacoba lot remains a parking lot after all these years
  5. Does anyone know if there will be a webcam for The Beacon? I don't know if that would have to be set up by Stark or not. It was fun being able to access the Hilton webcam...

As thoughts turn with the promises of spring and the anticipation of those lusty late summer nights, I wanted to share this one from August 2017 and a perfect night at the ballpark. I also like the unaltered atmospherics of the evening and the way the AT&T building seems to join the big boys on our skyline Enjoy and Go Tribe!
  7. Pretty sure it's a 19 story tower being placed atop an 8 story garage
  8. "Dinner and a show"... (on a magical level). if we're gonna indulge - I like my idea of the restaurant - on the top of the PHS tower ( And, yes KJP, on the west side of the building) - but with the option for a drink after the show back up on the "34th" floor
  9. Fantastic, exciting! I was thinking that the top floor would've been an awesome place for a restaurant. This tower is really going to make a statement and mark the eastern entrance to a growing downtown.
  10. Thanks for that rendering, Tasty, really cool to see that view with the inclusion of Nucleus. Wouldn't it look almost equal in height to 200 Public Square? - I think there's only a 10 foot difference. Exciting that most of those new projects are residential!
  11. i almost feel bad posting here because I have only questions, but that's what this forum is for - anyway, I'm just wondering about the "ongoing quiet" surrounding the game-changing Nucleus project. Some recent posts suggested that even if the Cleveland Schools voted yes that there was still a "county issue" that could derail the project. I assume that's another part of the financing equation...Is Nucleus, in its current projected form, just impossible financially in Cleveland and is it just because office rates are lower in "The Land" then all those other mid- market cities that have constructed major towers in the last few years? How do cities like Cincinnati, Baltimore, Milwaukee and Pittsburgh all erect major new towers in the last few years? Is Cleveland's market value just different than even these "non-glamour" locations? (I know Pittsburgh had PNC behind their 564 feet high tower.) It feels like Cleveland greatly needs a project of Nucleus' magnitude to continue its momentum as a 21st century major American city. I acknowledge the cool "Beacon" project as well as the hopefully soon-to-follow PS Tower. But Nucleus would be that iconic tower that would change the look of downtown. Do the Forum insiders think this project still has its heartbeat?
  12. Any word on when the Playhouse Apartment Tower project might actually break ground ? Is it something we could see in a matter of a few months, or more like many months or is it just too early to predict at this point?
  13. Weird how quickly this turned from one of the most fun baseball seasons ever into another chapter of! Cleveland sports heartbreak - I think this years version is especially cruel because - let's be honest - we thought this was our year - we actually believed. And the fact that the Indians lost 3 straight (again) - and that it was to the Yankees - makes it particularly painful this year. It just seems like the Indians didn't play Indians baseball in this series - starting pitching failed - defense sloppy - and the bats died. Last year even in defeat in the World Series I felt so proud of the team - they overachieved - this year, it's a major disappointment...
  14. 5-0 in 3rd inning of game 4 - Yanks up with a lot of mojo and Indians have lost theirs - weird how quickly things can change in baseball. If the Indians should lose 3 straight to NY it's gonna be extremely painful - let's hope there's some Indians magic left in the tank - time for Corey Kluber to be the man...
  15. I know it's been said before by others on the forum, but it's beyond frustrating that the proposed Nucleus abatement deal is portrayed by some in media and political circles as one in which the Cleveland Schools "give up 121 million dollars". How can the city and school leaders not easily understand that there is no 121 million dollar pot? It simply doesn't exist without the project - and the project doesn't happen without the deal. Where's our American spirit? Isn't our history defined by how we've sacrificed to build great buildings, visionary projects and a city that rises up with new towers that symbolize its greatness? If the powers that be in Cleveland don't embrace the possibilities and golden opportunities that come our way but, continue a philosophical argument about what " we're entitled to and what we don't want to give up" then we'll wind up with a city that stops striving and growing as the 21st century progresses. I love the energy that one feels again in downtown - especially on a big night like a playoff game, for example - but just imagine the energy and vitality that a neighborhood anchored by a true 21st century skyscraper complex adds. I'm rooting for leadership in Cleveland to fight for that vision - not just for the downtown - but because I know that the deal actually creates money that students in the city will benefit from now.
  16. A very classy conclusion to the historic Indians streak as the game ended - everyone in the sellout crowd on their feet and giving an obviously well deserved extended standing ovation to the players. Tito and the team all coming promptly out of the dugout and applauding the crowd right back. You could feel the shared sense of appreciation for what had been accomplished, how everyone knew that what they had witnessed was a once-in- a - lifetime thing and how fun it all was. But whatever "disappointment" there was in finally losing was outweighed by the grateful celebration and the sense that there might well be more Cleveland history coming in October.
  17. A tall crane in downtown - feels so good!!
  18. What a great time to be a Cleveland sports fan! (Especially for those of us who go back to the many forgettable Indians teams before the great 90's run.) Hats off to an historic accomplishment by the Indians and kudos to the team's supporters, especially the fans st the ballpark. Great to see such a fantastic story putting the CLE in the national (and Internstional) media - and we've certainly been in that spotlight quite a bit in the last year and a half. Whether this streak continues or not - Exciting to think that the best is hopefully yet to come for the Indians this post- season... Go Tribe!
  19. 19 in a row!! 18,000 there to see it - Geez...smh..
  20. Glad attendance is trending up - but: fact: only 5 teams in baseball have lower average attendance per game . If you want to brag about that I'm not impressed - we can do better.
  21. So great to be an Indians fan these days! 18 in a row - unbelievable. Have to say , however, 21,00 attendance ?? I don't want to hear about it being a Sunday night. Just really disappointing.
  22. Gonna be so great to see a crane downtown while watching the "Windians " this fall. Maybe a somewhat modest start but a good look for the city. Hope the Playhouse Square Tower crane isn't far behind.
  23. To me, this is a no-brainer - there are real needs, real students in Cleveland now who will benefit very soon from a Nucleus which actually rises. There are almost no deals that come along that generate anywhere close to the $60 or so million dollars that the schools will receive should Nucleus happen. We can talk about the next 30 years and what could've been or take a creative deal which actually results in Clevelands new mega project. Today's school budgets are increasingly burdened. This deal produces money now. The scope of nucleus' impact on downtown and the region in general is understood by everyone. Maybe this deal is a compromise of sorts but that doesn't mean it's not a big win-win.
  24. Heard the WTAM interview and saw the one on Fox with Stark - just gotta say I absolutely love the man's vision for Cleveland as a (still) major player in the 21st century. Some on UO have cautioned against a "fixation" with new towers and pointed out that cities grow from neighborhoods and real street presence, which I understand, but the dynamic growing cities all have visibly changing skylines with iconic new skyscrapers that make a statement. The "Jenga" tower of Nucelus is not beloved by all but it certainly will be that iconic new addition to the Cleveland skyline if it happens. And it would seem to be anything but s sterile,self-contained office tower but rather, a neighborhood creator. Rooting for this game-changer to cross the finish line!
  25. It's amazing to me how little vision people can have sometimes. Someone said that he couldn't imagine the Cavs leaving town and "where would they go?" Really? I can think of quite a few major towns that would love an NBA franchise...And remember, what seems unlikely can easily happen - It wasn't that long ago that we couldn't imagine the Cleveland Browns leaving. As great as the last few years with the Cavs have been with Cleveland on a world stage night after night, remember that the Cavs are just a part of the big picture - the Q frequently hosts world class concerts and special events - but that's been to a building that is rapidly aging when compared to similar buildings in competing cities. Underscore the word "competing". It comes down to whether Cleveland wants to remain a major league market. This city has been big league for many decades because great Clevelanders had the vision to think beyond the moment, build great buildings and world class businesses and attractions -Whether the Q deal and the Cavaliers percentage of financial contribution is a perfect equation - I admit, I don't know - but it's the deal that is on the table, one that can realistically happen and one that moves this city forward as "big league" - I don't know how you calculate the value of that. I hope there's a national tv night a few years from now where the broadcast camera pans from a modern "Nucleus" complex" to a transformed 21st century "Q".
