Miamisburg / Springboro: Austin Landing
Kjbrill, I think if you go back over this thread, you won't see a lot of positive comments about this project.

Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
Toby Keith's is a very nice space. It's absolutely massive inside.

USA3000 winds-down and exits Ohio airports
Not sure what that means. Southwest had profitable quarters during the recession. Allegiant (like most other carriers) also had an early 2000s bankruptcy before its current run of success.

Cincinnati: General Transit Thread
So, the groundbreaking is over for the Streetcar. I noticed that toward the start of the thread there was discussion about using the already-existing subway tunnels to leverage federal rail funding and work on light rail. Any idea if the city is actively considering anything like that? Any word on whether local transit authorities are thinking of going back to the voters on light rail for the county/region? It seems like now is the time to move on to the next battle--obviously focusing on making the streetcar successful, but laying the groundwork for the next phase of transit development.

My bad, I saw the link in the other thread to what you were talking about--three responses to a RFP by the City of Covington.

Cincinnati: Downtown: 84.51°
Yeah, I haven't heard about this proposed 20-story tower in Covington. Isn't that what was already proposed years ago with the Ovation project that is still not started?

Cincinnati - Bunbury Festival July 2012
Saw that on twitter. Sounds good!

Ohio "Right-to-Work" Movement
An employer could still choose to do so, AFAIK. At most law firms, for example, all entry-level associates at least begin at identical pay and benefits, even though there's no union contract there. At some law firms (including some of the most elite firms in NYC), pay and benefits are lockstep until partnership. This has nothing to do with a "single bargaining representative." There's not any "bargaining" involved at major law firms.

Sycamore Township: The Greens at Kenwood
I don't think that's completely right. Isn't the Fifth Third Operations place in Madisonville on a pretty big scale? They could have done something over there, I guess. (I'd agree that doing something on Madison Road in "downtown Madisonville" would not fit in.)

Cincinnati Skywalks
Having been to Bridgewater Falls many times, I don't think it's an especially effective example of a lifestyle center. It's open air but not really conducive to walking (partially due to the traffic flow, and partially because it has a very big footprint). I could not picture myself walking from one side of the place to the other--you have to drive it, I think. Maybe that's what you're talking about, though--where you drive and park right at the specific store you are interested in, and don't spend any time looking at other stores? In that case the ideal is really just a connected series of strip malls, I guess.

What are the chances of a resident parking-sticker system being implemented in OTR?
-
Cincinnati: Over-the-Rhine: Washington Park
Mercer Commons will certainly meet some of that pent-up demand. I think the original mix was probably too heavy on the condos and too light on the rentals, but that will correct itself. (I say this as someone who owns in OTR...)

Sycamore Township: The Greens at Kenwood
I believe it was downtown. My understanding (and I forget where this is coming from) is that the move to these type of places (like the new building in Kenwood) was primarily for security reasons.

Cincinnati: Over-the-Rhine: Development and News
I don't have a problem with the CCTV either. As Octo said, there are thousands of them in London, and when I have been there, it gives a feeling of safety (whether that is true or not, I have no idea).

Portage County: Development and News
Looks good. Great to see the town rebounding--with help from the school and local businesses.

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
I'm with Capell on this one. Do we really think that the city has done all this work on the streetcar, and has failed to take into account the legal interplay between the sewers (or any other utility, for that matter) and the streetcar? Here's a question for Eighth and State: I assume that we had sewers the last time we had streetcars, right? How were they able to coexist then, but now the problems are insurmountable?

Sears / Kmart News
I don't think you will see Sears positioned against Target (which also means positioned against Wal-Mart, as they are really in the same space, though with different focuses/price points/etc.). Target doesn't really sell things like hardware, appliances, etc. in the way that Sears does. As many others have commented, those things (and probably Lands' End, too) are the best things going for Sears right now. KMart in the dollar store category might be an interesting idea, I'd guess. Many of the articles to come out in the wake of this announcement have commented on the company's apparent refusal to invest money in the stores (apparently they don't think the return on investment is there to justify it). Hard to believe that Sears/K-Mart will do much more than wither if more money isn't directed toward the stores.

Sears / Kmart News
As I mentioned a few pages ago, I think that Sears/K-Mart is just in a really tough spot. K-Mart is clearly getting taken to the woodshed by both Wal-Mart and Target. It sounds like Sears is making some inroads, but they have so many competitors--be it higher-end, better-run and -performing department stores (Macy's, etc.), department stores in their same general category (Penney's, Kohl's), or speciality stores that compete with them in specific categories (Lowe's/Best Buy/Home Depot--heck, even specialty retailers like LL Bean and Eddie Bauer offer seroius direct competition to their Land's End brand/store-within-a-store concept)--that it is going to be very tough for them, too.

Thanks, Ken. (As I said, I would have posted it here in the first place, but you had rightly locked it.)

Cincinnati: Downtown: Hampton Inn / Homewood Suites (Cincinnati Enquirer Building Redevlopment)
It is a beautiful building. It would have to be in my top 3 downtown buildings I would like to see get re-done.

D'oh! Completely missed that.

Sears / Kmart News
(I was going to post this in the Sears HQ Relocation thread, but it's locked.) http://money.cnn.com/2011/12/27/news/companies/sears_kmart_closings/index.htm?hpt=hp_t2 Sears/K-Mart continue what sadly appears to be an inexorable march in the wrong direction. On the plus side, it sounds like most of these closings will be outside the Great Lakes/Northeast regions, but no identification of actual locations yet to see if Ohio is affected.

I heard that they saved the cornice from 1314 Vine. Can anyone confirm?
