  1. Doesn't that mean his beliefs are coming through in the article, then?
  2. If he believes it isn't aggressive enough, that certainly isn't coming through in the articles.
  3. I assume he's doing it because it's his job to pen a hit piece per week on the Streetcar.
  4. I was going to say the same thing, except about Nicholas Cage. +1.
  5. All I ask for is consistency from folks, which makes the discrimination against rail infuriating.
  6. I think it was a few pages back that there was a discussion (involving Eighth and State?) about the funding systems proposed for the streetcar as opposed to highways. An interesting article on cnn.com about a potential "driver tax" that would be a tax per mile. Apparently the government has had to kick in $30 billion for highway funding over the past few years because the gas tax no longer funds all the highway needs. http://money.cnn.com/2011/05/18/news/economy/gas_tax_drivers/index.htm?hpt=T2 I am sure this won't fly with voters, but I would love to hear how those who talk about light rail/streetcar needing to "pay for itself" view this. (Note, I am not suggesting that posters here take this position, but it is something we obviously see in the political debate about rail projects.) Is it long overdue?

What's AG? (Not placing the initials.)

I think part of the excitement would just be winning one of these things, after seeing plenty of them (NCR, etc.) go the other way.
  9. Yeah, that's awhile ago. They've started planting trees in the CRP.

Ah, I'd never picked up on the Central Parkway piece. Didn't it also move because the new place is a LEED certified building, fitting in with their mission?
  11. A Tavola has taken off the paper over the windows, and looks to have all the furniture, etc. I have to assume it's close to opening. It looks very nice. Also, on the plastic map standers in the GQ, it looks like they have been updated to include A Tavola, Taste of Belgium, and the wine bar opening next to Senate. It's apparently called Abigail Street and according to the stander will be open in June.

Which is to say, Park and Vine is not discussing an intersection, but is rather just the name of the store.

^Park and Vine is not a corner location in Cincinnati. It's a green/organic...uh...general store? Hard to describe it. It's a very cool place, with some food, plenty of merchandise, etc. But it's not an intersection. (It used to be on Vine Street, but now it's on Main Street in OTR.)

Starting pitching has been nails over the last ten games or so.
  15. Do you think they realize it's the county that owns the stadiums, not the city?
  16. Has anyone actually been in the Metropole? I'm wondering if there are any great gems/details in the building that will be brought out as part of this rehab.
  17. lol....
  18. That's a great chart.
  19. Having an emergency meeting every week is a great use of city funds, Charlie.
  20. Good to see. With luck they will be open by Christmas 2012, it sounds like.

If you want to do a tour, there is a Segway tour place at Vine and Central Parkway. Might be a unique and fun way to see the city.
  22. Walking by the Metropole this morning, I saw that they are putting up temporary fencing around the place. Construction must apparently be beginning, which is great.

I agree with both of those suggestions. The Carew Tower observatory is very cool. I'd also suggest grabbing something at Graeter's on Fountain Square, across the street from the Hilton/Carew. Check out the development taking place either down at the Banks (just walk toward the Ohio River), and see the Roebling Suspension Bridge. Alternatively you can check out the rebirth of Over-the-Rhine by taking a walk up Vine to about 13th Street; it would be about 10 minutes from Fountain Square. While on the way, you can check out the Contemporary Arts Center at Sixth and Walnut, which is worth it to walk through the building. Until the Riverfront Park is completed, the best place to catch a little quiet reflection time downtown is either Piatt Park (along Garfield/8th between Vine and Elm Streets) or Lytle Park, on the far eastern edge of downtown at 4th street. If you check out Piatt Park be sure to take a look at City Hall, the Isaac Wise Temple, and St. Peter in Chains Cathedral. If you're looking for food, plenty of good options. I'd recommend grabbing a bite and a pint at Nicholson's on Walnut between Sixth and Seventh, or at Nada. If you are feeling the trendy vibe, try Senate or Lavomatic in the Gateway Quarter on Vine Street (just past 12th street). If you are willing to wander just a bit from downtown, taking a cab up to Mt. Adams and walking around/having a bite to eat is also a good time. You can also check out Eden Park and/or the Art Museum if you do that.
  24. I admit to being perplexed. The tax rate is in the Ohio constitution. Not sure what the Governor thinks he gets to negotiate. I understand that he thinks it was a bad deal and should not have been voted for, but it was, and Ohio is stuck with it. Sort of like what people may be thinking about the vote that put him in office.
