Up-and-Coming Neighborhoods -- Any Progress?
That's it. Never been there.

Cincinnati: Urban Grocery Stores
I have no problem with the Vine St. Kroger. I think it has a ton of potential to be even better, if it comes to it.

Cincinnati Census Predicitions
Well, this is depressing. But Eight and State was right (unfortunately).

Article in today's CityBeat about the NAACP/COAST marriage, and the defeat of the streetcar with TRAC. Some interesting reading. http://www.citybeat.com/cincinnati/article-23088-naacp_coast-marriage-getting-tested.html

Up-and-Coming Neighborhoods -- Any Progress?
Note that does not take into account any businesses that were lost. Also I forgot the Segway store.

Up-and-Coming Neighborhoods -- Any Progress?
That's a good question. Just off the top of my head (mostly based on my walks around the neighborhood): Senate (restaurant) Lavomatic (restaurant) Joseph Williams Home (furniture store) Mica 12/v (miscellaneous stuff) Switch (lighting store) MOTR Pub The Lackman (bar) Park + Vine (organic store) Little Mahatma (I think it's new) Neon's (bar -- reopened) A Tavola (wood-fired pizza place--opening soon) Mulan (shoe store - opening soon) A clothing store that's name is escaping me Cooknee European Cabinets Taste of Belgium (opening soon) That's 15 I know of off the top of my head since we saw the initiation of the "Gateway Quarter" development.

I think UC's "financial woes" may be a misconception. We're talking a school with a $940 million endowment that is currently in the midst of a $1 billion fundraising campaign--during which they have already raised $750 million. Obviously there are cuts everywhere for education right now, but UC certainly has the ability to raise funds when it wants to.

Agreed. Or maybe Fresh Market or whatever.

Wikipedia pages for Cleveland and suburbs
Ok--now that makes a lot of sense. Why shouldn't Tremont have a better page? Weird...

Wikipedia pages for Cleveland and suburbs
^No offense, but Traflagar Square is one of the most well-known landmarks on the planet--I would expect a different Wiki article for something like that than a neighborhood in a midwestern city. As to the rest of your post, I have no idea about the inner workings of Wikipedia, but it seems weird that your stuff keeps getting taken down.

I think Liberty is the max end of the walking zone. I currently walk from 14th/Vine to 4th and Main every day. It is about the outer limit for a walk where you begin to think the hassle of driving and parking might be worth it.

Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
Yeah, I didn't think they really needed to put the signage up.

Cincinnati: Urban Grocery Stores
^I don't think the lack of a big box grocer is preventing it, but it would be nice to have the option--not necessarily a big box, but something where the every-other-week trips to stock up are not necessary.

One thing I always found odd was that the project did not get UC on board wholeheartedly (once the uptown connector was made part of it). Have them chip in $20 million or whatever; they are probably in a better position to do that than most, and may be more inclined than some of the companies in town.

Sherman, I'm hurt...I feel like you weren't reading the posts just a bit above on the process! (BTW, I saw some of your photos at Joseph Williams Home...big fan of the Emery Theater photo. I may buy it soon.)

Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
An in-process shot of them putting signage up at the Banks. The signage is complete as of April 12.

Riverside: National Museum of the USAF
Wow. I think they will take a lot of heat for that decision.

They've won today, but the momentum in downtown and OTR won't soon be stopped. There will be a streetcar and other mass transit in Cincinnati--maybe sooner, if gas prices remain sky high.

SB5 Bill and Repeal News
If this gets on the ballot, things are going to be very interesting come election time. You will see some strange bedfellows, I think. There are going to be some Republicans with hard choices to make--much like State Sen. Seitz from Cincinnati has done so far.

Governor John Kasich
That's fine. Thanks for clarifying.

Governor John Kasich
How is that [amending the Ohio Constitution to prohibit Kasich from being governor] illegal, Sherman? Do you have a cite? And to be clear, I ask this because if it's a constitutional amendment, it would clearly supersede all previous state laws and constitutional provisions, and I am racking my brain for a federal constitutional provision it would conflict with. Of course it would never happen in reality, but I am wondering where you are coming from in saying it would be "illegal."
-
Governor John Kasich
There won't be a recall provision. The "mid-term review" will be the 2012 elections for the Ohio House and half the Senate. That's where dissatisfaction will be expressed (if it is).
