  1. ^There was a shooting. http://news.cincinnati.com/article/20110409/NEWS01/304090014/Shooting-victim-critical-condition?odyssey=tab|topnews|text|FRONTPAGE I could hear the shots. Just a reminder that there's still a long way to go. :(
  2. Don't people get benefits from rail, too? Better air quality, less expensive goods, etc. from the rail infrastructure?
  3. I have a picture too. If no one else gets it, I will get it uploaded at some point. Believe me, I laughed. But it was sort of hard to believe...
  4. They are now working on completing the "current." As I said above, they already had the "CU" up. Today they have started from the other end, and have put up the last two letters (still awaiting on the "r-r-e"). The effect is unfortunate....
  5. and it's not that positive--note the point at the end implying it was a conspiracy to release this study before the TRAC vote.
  6. There is some signage going up on the apartment building. Right now it just says "CU" and then "at the banks" below it. Presumably they are actually putting up "Current" on the side of the building, but I don't know how I feel about that. Or perhaps it's just written as with a text, encouraging people to come down to the Banks.
  7. (Also I did it in about 4 minutes online, which did not give me the chance to go back after submitting it and rethink that point. :( )
  8. ^Yes-- my apologies to folks in Columbus and Cleveland, both of which are terrific cities that I think are great. I was trying to come up with a way to analogize for Enquirer readers who base everything on comparisons (generally where they say Cincy is more crime-ridden, high-tax, etc.). If I had to do again I would not use that bit, but I couldn't think of another comparison that would resonate for most. Sorry.
  9. Letter to the editor: http://cincinnati.com/blogs/letters/2011/04/07/streetcar-bashing/
  10. No--that is going to be next to Ensemble Theatre, not on the corner by Central Parkway.
  11. I noticed that it looks like something is going on in the old Park + Vine space. Anyone have any ideas on what that could be?
  12. ? I don't think I've ever been in the tunnel when that's happened. Why would people blow their horns in the tunnel?

I agree generally on the parity front; but I think the Indians in the 90s (heck, even five or six years ago) and the Reds of today show that with the right management, small-to-mid market teams can do well (though maybe not year in year out). As Indians fans, do you place the onus mostly on management/ownership? I know that things were bleak for the Reds before Castellini got involved, and the entire organization has been on the upswing since he came in.

As we've seen with the Streetcar, ODOT never changes its plans. If they are saying no I-74, it will never happen.
  15. A guy at work said that a condo development there would be Parker Flats on the east side of downtown instead of west. There would be some similarities.
  16. It's not actually a homeless shelter--it's for battered women.
  17. One thing all Ohio laws have to comply with is the state's "one-subject" rule, which is a constitutional provision designed to prevent log rolling and riders. Sort of a "your bill needs to all be about the same thing" requirement. (Depending, of course, on the unity of subject matter in the bill.)
  18. Don't know if anyone saw it, but last week (I think?) Delta announced they are cutting 25% of flights in Memphis. Memphis is about to take the same haircut we took at CVG.
  19. ^I think he was just explaining why he typed TARC instead of TRAC.
  20. Also very nice to see that the Cleveland Clinic is 4th nationally (behind Johns Hopkins, the Mayo Clinic, and Massachusetts General), and I think OSU is in the top 14 nationally as well.
  21. Wow--I don't think I realized how big this will be. I live in Trinity Flats, and this is going to dwarf that.
  22. I can't wait for this to be done. To have a great park a block away...
  23. U.S. News is now ranking hospitals by metro area (I'll be honest, I don't even know if they publish a weekly magazine anymore). Here is the link to their easy-to-use rankings by metro area. http://health.usnews.com/best-hospitals/area Metro Cleveland has 34 hospitals; U.S. News ranks 17 of them. Metro Cincinnati has 34 hospitals; U.S. News ranks 10 of them. Metro Columbus has 22 hospitals; U.S. News ranks 5 of them. Pretty interesting stuff, checking on various metro areas. For example, Atlanta has 57 hospitals, but only 11 get ranked. St. Louis, despite not being that much larger on a metro population basis than any of the three C's, has 53(!) hospitals, according to U.S. News. Portland, despite being essentially the same size metro as Cincinnati and Cleveland, only has 18 hospitals.
  24. ^Agreed.
