Sycamore Township: Kenwood Collection
It really is massive. Looking forward to the new Kroger.

Cincinnati: Downtown: Queen City Square
Yep, there's nothing they can do about that.

Hamilton: Development and News
Dang. I was hoping that they wouldn't go the rebuilding route, but I guess it's not that surprising. A good effort to try and save it.

Cincinnati: Xavier University: Development and News
Plus you can't forget that it's still a small school. When I went, our class was the largest incoming freshman class ever at XU, and we were just shy of 800. It's getting bigger, but it still has a ways to go to achieve that critical mass. Add to that that a lot of the off-campus housing is scattered about--I lived in a house in Norwood for two years where neighbors on both sides were just regular Norwood residents--and it's hard to achieve some of that stuff you see elsewhere. But it's slowly heading down that road.

Cincinnati: Xavier University: Development and News
I understand the sentiment, but I also think that it's a much more natural progression for XU to build out from Ledgewood. Putting anything up at, say, the corner of Dana and Montgomery right now would be really disconnected from the rest of campus. Especially as the campus has expanded, this little section of houses on Ledgewood has become more and more out of place--and since they were mostly university functions anyway, I think it makes sense to integrate it more. I really look forward to any efforts that can slow down the traffic on Dana.

Seicer, I didn't know you worked for XU. All I can say is it's changed a heckuva lot since I first set foot on campus way back in 1995.

Newport, KY: Newport on the Levee: Development and News
Wow, I had the impression it wasn't meeting expectations, but this sentence was something I did not expect: "Still, the Levee is among San Diego-based Price Legacy Corp.'s worst-performing investments, according to documents filed by the real estate investment trust with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission."

Which small Ohioan towns are worth visiting?
I always liked Gallipolis best of the river cities, but all of the river towns have something to offer. I also think Chillicothe is nice, with a sort of historic downtown. And while it's quite a bit bigger than most towns mentioned and part of the Cincinnati metro, Hamilton has a lot going for it--a real downtown, nice river, and a couple of neat historic districts (Rossville and Dayton Lane(?)) with great old houses.

Cincinnati: Downtown: Queen City Square
That garage was convenient and big, but it was in bad shape by the end. The last few months there was exposed rebar, bits of concrete lying around.

Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
Really? I've never heard that. If that's true, that's pretty cool, and I respectfully recind my statement about being annoyed that First Street doesn't exist. True, but what I was trying to get at is that this is one project that a lot of people thought would never get off the ground. Now that it is finally making progress, no one wants to be the guy that accidentally derailed it because they were too picky, particularly when your job depends on your reelection in the near future. Yeah, the developer would more than likely retool the design if asked, but the question is, will they be asked to? I think I heard that in an Urban History class I took in college. I always thought it was pretty cool, and it does make sense.

Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
It's my understanding that the river is (and always will be) "First Street."

Cincinnati: Downtown: Queen City Square
I saw those two guys watching from the top of the QCS garage from the Atrium building. Funny that you got a picture of them.

Columbus Symphony Orchestra News & Info
Any update on this? I'm wondering when the deadline is for canceling the season or moving forward.

Cincinnati: Restaurant News & Info
Went to Oceanaire tonight. Love the atmosphere, love the decor, and the best fish I've ever had (I had the sesame seared swordfish). A little pricier than McCormick & Schmick's, and the service is still finding its way, but it's a GREAT addition to downtown.

Cincinnati: Downtown - Parker Flats
Drove by it tonight, it's really quite impressive (and bigger than I thought).

Cincinnati: Downtown: Fort Washington Way Cap
That's an interesting question. Western-Southern seems to fit your criteria--a Fortune 500 company without a skyscraper that's got (I believe) space in several different places downtown. Of course, they're building QCS for AFG.... Maybe Cincinnati Financial or Cintas (just outside the F500) could be enticed to move to a downtown high-rise? By the way, if you think downtown Cincy is in need of infill, I hate to hear what you have to say about somewhere like Columbus....I think the density of downtown is actually one of its most impressive features.

Cincinnati: Downtown: Fort Washington Way Cap
They can actually put 30 story buildings on the Banks (check out the section of that thread dealing with the height restrictions). Somewhere upthread here it says that the caps will be able to hold 5 story buildings.

Cincy - Is Madeira a good place to live?
If you're thinking Madeira you might also check out Pleasant Ridge. You get more for your money than Hyde Park/Mt. Lookout, it's near Kenwood like Madeira, and it's very accessible to downtown. It's also pretty diverse. (Full disclosure: I live in Pleasant Ridge.)

Cincinnati: Downtown: Queen City Square
I (used to) park in the QCS garage. They sent out a notice this week that the last day anyone can park there will be July 6. So sounds like the demo is coming soon.

Wellston, Ohio
Wow, I didn't know these threads existed. I'm originally from Wellston. The depot is great, it was restored in the late 1980s/early 1990s. As for the City Building, I don't know that it was ever a mansion, because it is absolutely huge--probably 3 times as big as any house in town, at least. But it could be. It was severely damaged in a spectacular fire in the mid 80s, but rebuilt. (My grandfather's dental practice was in the building next door.) Sadly, it's gone downhill from just when I was a kid. Lots of potential, but the storefronts get emptier, and the development has moved south on 93 closer to the intersection with 32. (And all the schools are now nearly out of town, north on 327.) Still, fond memories...but I couldn't move back there from the 'Nati. East Village Don, I bet I could guess a family name of the folks you are referencing.

Cincinnati: Downtown: 84.51°
I think he will hammer Qualls if she runs. I think Bortz might be a more formidable opponent because he would appeal to the city's Republicans (what with the business background and such).

Cincinnati: Evanston: Development and News
I gotta say, the biggest surprise to me is how close it is to the street....for some reason I thought it would be more set back. It's underwhelming, but any development in Evanston is a good thing. I hope (and think it will happen) that XU does a better job with regard to the community at the Xavier Square development (or whatever it's called).

Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
^The construction equipment is already there doing the preliminary stuff (right now it's related to digging up some old Riverfront Stadium concrete or something). I assume (hope?) that site prep and construction will follow shortly after....

Cincinnati: Downtown: Fort Washington Way Cap
I think the High Street cap is pretty well done. And it's certainly a great way to use that space. I really hope the FWW caps become a reality.
