Cleveland-Youngstown-Pittsburgh Passenger Rail Service
it appears that New Castle casino plan is dead I'm surprised I haven't seen anything about this proposed rail corridor in the PGH media Considering how close Pittsburgh and Cleveland are... and how densely populated the corridor between is... you'd think something like this would be a no-brainer

Housing Rebound in Cleveland Means Bad News for U.S.

Housing Rebound in Cleveland Means Bad News for U.S.
Actually, it was 7.7%, which is the worst number since at least 2000 (probably since the 80s as the 90s were a pretty good decade or Cleveland). The May 2008 figure for Cleveland MSA was 7.2%... a 0.5% increase in a month is pretty scary. Hopefully the July numbers won't show a similar increase. http://www.forbes.com/2008/08/04/economy-ohio-michigan-biz_cx_jz_0805dying_slide_7.html?thisSpeed=15000 Maybe the 10.1% represents City of Cleveland or Cuyahoga County.. or was just pulled out of thin air.

Great Lakes Urban Exchange
http://buffalo.bizjournals.com/buffa...ml?t=printable Plotting for an urban renaissance Business First of Buffalo - by James Fink Business First The fate of older, city centers like Buffalo could be infused when a new administration enters the White House next January. With that thought in mind, Rep. Brian Higgins, D-Buffalo, is convening a federal panel on Friday to discuss that issue. The panel discussion is set for 10 a.m. at the Buffalo & Erie County Historical Society. Higgins, co-chairman of the Congressional Revitalizing Older Cities Task Force, is bringing a mix of national and local speakers to the panel including Cheektowaga Supervisor Mary Holtz, Brian Reilly, Buffalo Department of Economic Development commissioner, Abby Wilson, co-founder of the Great Lakes Urban Exchange and Rob Atkinson, a visiting senior fellow at the prestigious Brookings Institution. the article mentions Weirton-Steubenville due to its high income growth rate... yet fails to include it in that ranking...

Wooster / Wayne County: Development and News
I always hated that too, I was always trying to convince people to go to the more local places. I don't remember Tracy's Karate so I'm not sure which of the coffeeshops you are talking about (Seattle's? Muddy Waters?), but Tulipan's, Matso's and CW Burgerstein's, along with South Market Bistro, were always some of my favorite places to go Seattle's (not familiar with Muddy Waters)... If you just graduated from College of Wooster... we were probably living only a couple blocks away... I used to live on College Ave. next to the Black Squirrel Inn back in 2005-6... I was working there for a little while after graduating from Penn State

Urban Ohio "Picture Of The Day"
A few miles up the Monongahela River from downtown on the Hot Metal Bridge, whose pedestrian span opened last November. Built in 1900, this bridge was designed to transport crucibles of molten steel from Jones & Laughlin's blast furnaces on one side of the river to the rolling mills on the other. Today it connects university-laden Oakland with the vibrant South Side at S. 29th St. It's extremely popular with walkers, roller bladers and bikers who use the riverfront trails on both sides of the river. The Pittsburgh Technology Park occupies the former site of the blast furnaces and the SouthSide Works mixed-use development occupies the former site of the rolling mills. The Hot Metal Bridge is the black bridge in the foreground here. It's actually a twin span... with the span closest to viewer being a former RR span that was converted to automobile use in 2000. The u/c SouthSide Works is at left. This has been a key link in supporting these booming brownfield redevelopments. people enjoying the bridge after it opened last November ... here's the scene from the 80s... you can see a little bit of the Hot Metal Bridge beyond the steel mills... credit: Joel DeGrand http://www.degrand.com/09-Pittsburgh

Pittsburgh neighborhood tours: Friendship
Friendship takes its name from a local farm that stood at the corner of Friendship Ave. and Roup Ave. and was named "Friendship" by its owner, one of William Penn's descendants, who like Penn was a member of the religious Society of Friends.

Pittsburgh neighborhood tours: Friendship
Friendship is a small residential neighborhood in Pittsburgh's East End featuring stately detached Victorian homes on tree-lined streets. During the period of urban decline in the mid/late 20th century, many of these grand old homes were subdivided into apartments... and in some cases elaborate architectural features have been defaced. While Friendship is quite pleasant... there is a touch of faded glory present due to some of the more poorly maintained rental properties. In recent years there has been a trend toward increasing home ownership and rehabilitation of structures. Friendship has quick walkable access to business districts in Bloomfield, Shadyside, East Liberty... and the Penn Ave. corridor which straddles Friendship and Garfield. The Sharp Edge is celebrated for its vast selection of Belgian beers glass artists a touch of SoMa nice flag this house was featured in the quirky romantic comedy "Smart People", released in April and starring Dennis Quaid, Thomas Haden Church, Ellen Page and Sarah Jessica Parker some rowhouses that were rehabbed a few years ago the Friendship School
