  1. If Your Zipcar Is Costing More, The Taxman May Be to Blame By SARAH NASSAUER June 19, 2008; Page D1 In cities around the country, fans of Zipcar Inc. and other car-sharing companies are seeing prices rise for those jaunts to the grocery store. For that, they can blame the taxman. As car-sharing companies have enjoyed skyrocketing growth in recent years, several state and city governments have ruled that car-sharing companies need to charge their members car-rental tax. The laws are affecting customers in places such as Seattle, Pittsburgh and Chicago -- and are likely to spread to other areas soon. 2. more on Pittsburgh's subway extension... http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/08160/887959-147.stm Tunnel drilling under the river passes halfway mark Sunday, June 08, 2008 By Mark Roth, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Viewed from its starting point, the new Port Authority tunnel looks like an ivory umbilical cord swooping beneath the Allegheny River. How much new life it will nourish between Downtown and the North Shore remains to be seen, but there is no doubt how impressive its engineering progress has been. here's a weird statistic I found today Jason Bay of the Pittsburgh Pirates has the Most Home Runs (14) by a visiting player and the highest batting average of any player with more than 100 at bats (.374, 55 for 147) at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati.
  7. damn, talk about coverage!

    1. Who wants to be Downtown on a blistering hot Sunday when you can be lounging on one of Greater Cleveland's many beaches? 2. I've always loved the Stokes Federal Courthouse... what a unique design! I guess it's a "love it or hate it" skyscraper! I'd take it over the multi-block streetlife-killing federal courthouse here in Pittsburgh. 3. This has got to be the most photographed residence in Cleveland... what a breathtakingly tacky monstrosity! Does the owner realize that thousands of anonymous internet denizens snicker at his/her indulgently flamboyant pseudo-mansion? 4. A Quizno's and a Qdoba next door!?!?!? :-o
  10. simply fascinating, Geoffrey

  13. http://blog.cleveland.com/tlr/2008/06/pennsylvania_rolls_once_again.html Pennsylvania rolls once again in Big 33 romp over Ohio Posted by Josh Langenbacher, Special to The Plain Dealer June 14, 2008 23:33PM Categories: Football Hershey, Pa. -- Before kickoff of the Big 33 game Saturday night, there was some sentiment which suggested it would be more competitive than recent editions. So much for that.

The octopus hit the ice of Mellon Arena to a chorus of boos just after the national anthem Saturday. But the tentacled toss didn't come from a Michigander. Zach Smith, 19, of Cleveland, an avid Red Wings fan and adrenaline junkie, hurled the slimy creature. Then he got tossed. Security guards threw him out... 21. Because you can buy "that much house" for a lot less in some horrible subdivision (though the quality of the construction will be vastly inferior)... plus you get around the city's pesky wage tax... plus it seems like it's been a point of pride amongst many to live as far away as possible from the city or their job... though gas prices might put that foolish notion to rest... plus you get what is perceived to be a vastly superior school district (though the schools Point Breeze feed into are rated very highly) Mapquest says it takes 13 minutes (6.4 miles) to get from Point Breeze to Downtown.
  22. just used the editing software that came with my camera... simple stuff like sharpening, saturation and brightness adjustment
  23. Point Breeze is a wealthy residential neighborhood in Pittsburgh's East End. It's essentially a residential extension of neighboring posh (and more well-known) Shadyside and Squirrel Hill (though it does have a somewhat distinct atmosphere). Point Breeze is also adjacent to the vast wilderness of Frick Park and the much smaller Mellon Park. Lush tree canopies hover over diverse residential styles ranging from attractive middle class homes to luxurious mansions. this secluded area is near the northern gate of Frick Park a verdant trail leading into the park the immaculately groomed lawn bowling courts parkside housing Reynolds St. canopy there is so much vegetation here... it can be hard to find the houses! Point Breeze has a tiny, but charming, business district the Point serves up Belgian fare Pino's was having tapas night... and Make Your Mark Artspace & Coffeehouse is always a delight encounter in Mellon Park one of the many Beechwood Blvd. mansions lush!

  25. Eaton addition will mix showcase, workplace By Ron DaParma TRIBUNE-REVIEW Saturday, May 17, 2008 When Eaton Corp.'s $24 million headquarters expansion opens in Moon this August, it will be as much of a showplace for the company's energy-saving electrical products as it will be a workplace for about 850 employees. That includes about 100 employees added since the beginning of 2007, officials said. Touting its energy-saving products is one way Eaton hopes to continue growing its $8 billion (2007 revenue) electrical business, said Mike Longman, vice president of marketing and powerchain management for Eaton Electrical Group, during a tour of the Friday of the addition, which is still under construction.
