Also want to add for the people that don't know, the soccer base in Northeast Ohio is huge. I played premier all through my youth. NEO was/is one of the top regions in the Midwest. Western New York (Buff, Roch) and ChicagoLand were just as big or bigger from what I remember. I don't remember too many elite teams coming out of Columbus or Cincinnati, maybe that has changed recently, or maybe I shouldn't equate elite team production with fan bases. There were a lot of premier teams out of Toledo also, now that i think about it.

You know what, you are right. And now that I think about it, I would have picked up Al-bany while living in Athens county, attending OU not in Cleveland. There was town named Albany right next to Athens. In Albany was a Busch distributer that I would frequent. Considering the size of the cargo I would most likely made the trip with one of many local friends from down there, that had a pick-up truck. Its all making sense now!
  3. Were you guys standing next to each other :)

I don't think I have much of a northern accent (I have been told). Sometimes words slip in though. Last time I was in eastern new york I mentioned Al-bany, the city, and two locals to that area just looked at me. I repeated All-bany, they then continued the conversation, haha.
  5. Ugh, the mall B incline. All this time, and that has still not grown on me one bit. They ruined the whole stretch with that, in my mind. To the point where I wish we would just build on mall B to give A and C life.
  6. Increasingly, at least in more enlightened places, rideshare will fill in the "last mile" connecting increasingly sparse but hopefully higher-frequency bus (edit:) and rail routes with homes and businesses beyond walking distance from those routes, but easily within a very short drive. RTA should be COOPERATING with rideshare services, not seeking to tax them out of existence. I think this is a nice idea, but real world, at least in Cleveland, they are just going to use the rideshare for the whole trip. I don't see very many people using rideshare for last mile. Maybe if ourcity was a lot denser and auto traffic was difficult, but its the opposite. *Second read maybe that's why you used "enlightened places"
  7. My first instinct is to hate this idea. At first glance it looks like a woeful public entity penalizing a private successful one. There are loads of external costs to society involved with private transportation though. Congestion, fossil fuel consumption, etc. To me these types of taxes are the best way to fund public transit. In NYC when you drive over the bridges into Manhattan and pay a toll, it goes to transit. Makes perfect sense. Due to overbuilding of road infrastructure, we might not have the congestion problems in Cleveland necessarily so you could make an argument against it there, but fundamentally it's sound. Agree. I'm not necessarily against fees on rideshare per say. I think they came in and were able to skirt around a lot of existing "costs" i.e. commercial licensing. But as mentioned above there seems to more logical funding sources to tap into first. You forgot to mention parking, that's another big one. I also really like the congestion fee idea (which would effect Uber as well) but realize it might be hard to do in Cleveland.
  8. What are everyone's thoughts on a rideshare use fee to help fill some of the rta financial gap? http://www.cleveland.com/cuyahoga-county/index.ssf/2018/02/cuyahoga_county_asked_to_impose_fee_on_uber_and_lyft_ride-sharing_to_help_rta.html#incart_river_mobileshort_home
  9. The Cleveland Huletts. Brute mechanical strength yet possessing a certain finesse and grace. And since the league forced us to change our mascot (and name) maybe they can help pay for us to assemble our new mascot from the pieces laying out on Whiskey Island.
  10. Is it really easier for the city to raise money and be granted access to bulldoze a property than it is to gain rights to said property and get it in the hands of a new owner?
  11. That's funny to see becuase my gf made a hyeecle insta account a little while back. At the time I questioned why (she has never been to Denmark). I guess she's validated now.
  12. I'm assuming the heat was for the re-zoning to MF H3 on the land behind the gated community (eastern side of west 5th, near literary)
  13. I think close to a billion dollar investment here might turn some gears, no?
  14. Nice mockup, Dave. Not a huge fan of what you did with the northern terminus of the land bridge. Though having played around with my own lakefront land bridge concepts I certainly understand the difficulties in ending a land bridge gracefully with the current layout/infrastructure here.
  15. Any speculations on which airport?
  16. ^I believe they are in the bidding process for that now.
  17. I see where you are coming from. I am not proposing more stops downtown to reduce traffic in the square, per se. I'm advocating that a Detroit/Superior bridge subway, coming in from the west side could eliminate two major bus lines (#22 #26) from even coming downtown, and clogging up Superior through the square in the first place. The subway would have a station under public square to serve both transfers and finally destinations. This would would lay the foundation for the other major west side routes to do the same i.e. #51's (i'm interested to see if the metro health BRT re-branding boosts ridership) Correct. Yes, we are starting to see this method implemented and it looks to be successful thus far. I'm highly sensitive to everyone's transit needs in Cleveland, as well as the need for the system to make peoples lives easier by reducing the need for transfers. At the same time I don't think direct downtown bus routes trying to run to every nook and cranny of the region is efficient nor sustainable. Plus the negative effect all the buses coming into downtown have on the city, including public square.
  18. Look at two of the west side's most heavily used bus lines, 22 and 26. If they were rolled into a single surface rail to a Detroit/Superior subway that ran to E 17th (their current turnaround) I think this would alleviate a lot of bus traffic through public square. This would require bus transfers at some point but I think a more dependable, high frequency dual corridor outweighs that inconvenience and I personally wouldn't mind seeing a more bus feeder type system implemented around the region. Building up and feeding your most successful lines might be a good way to strengthen our fragile transit system.
  19. ^I love the the waterfront line loop extension idea KJP came up with a while back. The one that uses E 17th to cut south. Hindsight, I know but they should have really built a subway down E 9th during the 60-70s' urban renewal days. Muni lot area, Saint Clair, Euclid, Gateway (to be) and Terminal Tower stations. AND then set parking maxes along the corridor. I digress. Public Square I think your our most ideal option to reduce a lot of the bus traffic is a Detroit/Lorain surface rail route to a Detroit Superior subway though public square, surfacing around reserve square. $$$ :-*
  20. Just saw him cruising through Ohio City in his silver Escalade, stogie in month. Props to him for sticking around threw the dark years and making sure we did't lose the forest city savings building. I hope he keeps up his presence around town and best of luck to the new tenants.
  21. Tacoma Transit provided a tweet that suggested there was a collision with a truck on the tracks.
  22. If we can count the near westside of Cleveland as inner city, then I think Lorain Ave is well on its way to be an Elmwood. Bridging I 90 in an attractive way will take some innovation though. I think Lorain is only behind streets such as Elmwood in Buffalo becuase it bottomed out harder and lost more of it's stock. Inner, near east side, will take a lot more work and bright ideas. Most everything seems to have been wiped out so there isnt a template to work on. We need to rebuild in the densest way possible here ()
  23. I was just hanging out around Allentown last month. Allen and Elmwood is a great little intersection, for sure. The Greek restaurant, southeast corner is very good, if anyone ends up around there hungry!
  24. ^ Western New York is a huge (and potential) population source. I get the sense though, that a lot of them and others don't necessarily want downtown high rise living, and they definitely don't detached single family neighborhoods. They want traditional urban neighborhoods. Something Cleveland doesn't have a lot of stock of currently.
  25. My hope is that since the the garage entrance along Euclid is residential only, that it wont be all that active. And at the least it wont be slammed at distinct times such as everyone trying to leave an event at the same time. Its Not ideal though.
