South Bend, Indiana Revisited
I was looking around South Bend a little on Google maps and saw this interesting industrial building rehab, where they seem to have encased the building in glass. I kind of think it looks cool.

Suburban Sprawl News & Discussion
I could see introverts actually preferring denser cities where they can disappear amongst the mass of people. Conversely, some extrovert types may like the low density suburbs where they can play main character in a small pool.

Awesome. And if I remember correctly from previous meetings on this property the past owner insisted it was unsalvageable.

South Bend, Indiana Revisited
Wow, you weren't kidding. Most of my architecture knowledge is based off observation but even I know this is so wrong. It's like the design was created from something like Happy Dog's menu and the architect checked nearly all the topping boxes!

Lorain and 53rd. I think a car hit this building a while back. Any one know if they plan on rebuilding?

Brecksville: Valor Acres Development
I worked at Breen years ago. I Never got the impression there was an overabundance of anti-social types. If that's what you're getting at. Plenty of people went out after work, also a majority would go up, into the city for lunch. There was a group of guys I knew that, without fail used their lunch everyday to go to the strip clubs (the old east bank ones).

Thanks for the heads up, Ken. Never thought I'd be pro strip mall but this was a decent one, considering the surroundings. And fully leased out, what a shame. Also, I didn't realize Athens Imports was there for that long. I always assumed it was relocated from the one that was on Lorain and 26th. My mom will have to change where she gets her filo now 😭

Since it came up, just an fyi that non-twitter users are often blocked from seeing content on that platform now. It's a recent thing (past few months). If that sways any of you from using their format to share content, that's up to you :) Personally I've held out this long and wont be making an account.

So good. For those that don't know, do yourself a favor and stop in Rincon Criollo.

Before seeing the schematic I would have said the painted crosswalk is in the right place. I keep seeing this after city resurfacing projects. Why don't they always run the crosswalk from corner to corner? Is it a some type of pedestrian calming measure?? Another example off the top of my head is the crosswalk on the north side of 38th and Lorain. Annoys me they do this.

Any time I hear the chorus of density concerns I immediately think to myself why isn't the conversation about demanding better transit in the area. Car infrastructure only gets a place so far. Greats places figure it out, it's nothing new in the evolution of cities. Personal opinion on the actual design, I dislike the look from the Mount Carmel footie field. edit: I just got to Slife's comments and was glad to hear some of his points echoed what I was trying to convey.

Travel Thread
Just got back from a similar location. If you want to lessen your load you can probably skip packing your summer ensemble. It's cool there, especially coming from Cleveland (that feels weird writing) I think it felt like late April in Cleveland. So pants and sweater were pretty much what I ended up wearing the whole time. The days are a little longer but the sun felt much weaker. Have fun. Eat the black pudding :)

It's bad urban form and we are on an urban forum. What do you expect from us 🙃

I love hearing that RTA is committed to getting more TOD around this station. Maybe RTA can change direction away from developing that section along Columbus ave, which is most heavily treed? There is just so many other places (some rta owned) to fill before we go there. This is my thinking, start with a tower over a new station rebuild and then also a building cap south along abbey for the secondary station access point.

I hope we also go back to the original crosswalks after repairing the pavers.

Thanks @Dougal So the southeast corner then. Where that wedge shaped lot is next to current day Lorain furniture, it seems. That had been on my list to figure out for a while. But now I have to know what these relics on the northeast corner are!

Any history buffs know exactly what corner of Lorain and W 47th the original Fisher Foods stood? The townhomes being developed currently on the northeast corner exposed some of a past structure's basement/foundation. I'm wondering if this was the location. https://case.edu/ech/articles/f/fisher-foods-inc

Cleveland: University Circle (General): Development and News
Even less parking was part of my win scenario! Fair enough though, looks like there is some dead space that can be utilized and thus free up room on the back side for more parking. My point being, if there is a will there is a way. Also, with the investment right there I would assume that would make the rowhouses a more enticing rehab for another dev.

I'm I the only one that glanced at the site plan and thought the existing structure didn't necessarily need to come down anyways. To me it looked like that area would be parking lot, where the rows houses stand today. Maybe this can turn into a win/win?

Photography Questions
Portable: I think you will want mirrorless because they tend to be lighter and more compact. Durable: That's a tough one because camera bodies have all different ratings as far as weather proofing. So it really depends on what exactly you are going to put the camera through. Definitely something to keep an eye on while you shop but I think, for the most part you will be fine with any of the major brands offerings. You just have to choose if you will be a Sony, Canon or Nikon guy. Once you get lenses you are pretty locked in to the brand and mount size. Then its either crop sensor (APS-C) Or full frame. I don't think you have to know too much about the engineering there just that the sensor is larger with full frame so you capture a wider field. If you get really into the hobby most people will want full frame. That said full frame will be more expensive and you may never find the need or desire to upgrade. --- You got a Sony suggestion: A7 IV (great cameras from what I've heard). For Nikon, I'll go opposite direction and suggest the lowest tier in Nikons mirrorless lineup: the Z50. fyi, it's a crop sensor (APS-C). I have one and I love it for it's small, compact size and more than sufficient camera capabilities. It held up fine in jungles of Central America last summer so I think it will be ok in Ireland too. I'll be in UK in June myself. Maybe skip the kit lens with this one as well (they are DX which pretty much means made for APS-C, so if you upgrade to full frame body later they will restrict you) and try out https://www.nikonusa.com/en/nikon-products/product/mirrorless-lenses/nikkor-z-40mm-f%2f2.html. Just need a suggestion for Canon... Regardless of choice, make sure you get soonish so you can really get used to controls before trip in June.

Here are the desire paths. Interesting enough the western side one is significantly more pronounced. You can't see from the angle but both of them go right to where the ledge (behind the stage) ends.

boo. I guess the jersey barriers tie the whole thing together by matching the spirit of the constant fencing around the northern half.
