I do think the hospital is doing a lot of good for the area overall, but from what I've seen it seems that "ongoing neighborhood revitalization efforts" means "demolish everything we can get our hands on."

Webster Station is really looking like the hot spot for greater downtown! The new hotel is about to open, the new ballpark apartments are under construction, and these two buildings would be great for helping connect 2nd St. Market to the Cannery.

Do people think that the Fire Blocks developers are going to be able to pull this off? Most who I've talked to have been fairly pessimistic, but I do have one contact who seemed to think they were progressing well on at least a couple of the buildings. I certainly haven't seen any first-hand evidence that they are doing anything.

Yeah, this would be a big win for that part of downtown. Hopefully the anticipated Levitt Pavilion right nearby helps get the project moving. Cool historic image too; wish they hadn't torn down that building on the far left of the picture.

At this point how confident are people that this will actually happen? I'm cautiously optimistic due to the caliber of the developers and level of detail in the overall plan, including the tenants who have signed on. But it still seems like an awful lot of different tax credits will all have to line up perfectly in order to move forward, so that has me a little nervous still. Anyone else have any information on the progress?

I noticed that in a lot of threads, what exactly happened? I see you can open images in a new tab and they theoretically will be there, but some haven't worked for me and the ads on the Photobucket platform are pretty annoying. Are there any other ways to see those threads? It's a shame how many great posts have lost their images.

The proposals are in to the city for the DDN/Schwind site after the disaster that happened last time but I'm sure that's still a couple years out from turning into anything. What I'd love to see someday is for the horrible cladding to come off the former Reynolds complex to expose the awesome old buildings that are still under there. I do hope the Arcade is still coming along; it's been a bit quiet as of late.

Water Street is really starting to grow! Definitely seems to be turning into an actual neighborhood, and I hope more businesses start to spring up in that area following all the housing. I know there was a new coffee shop that just opened around that way recently.

I truly hope this projects happens, but given the recent reporting I'm starting to have doubts this group will be able to pull it off. They've been buying building after building but can't even make the Century Bar expansion happen for a very willing tenant. I wish they had just started with the Elks building instead of getting grandiose ideas of transforming a massive chunk of downtown.

Looks like they have a solid track record, and I'm glad it's a new developer for our market. (I think Weyland Ventures has enough in the pipeline in Oregon East to keep them busy.) Hope these guys can get their financing in order soon, as this would be a big project for the CBD.

I think the Fire Blocks is one of the big wildcards of downtown's redevelopment. It seems every three months or so we see a new "exclusive" article that says basically the same thing as last time, while no progress appears to have been made on apartments, restaurants, etc. that they've been talking about for over two years. In fact, they keep on buying up more and more properties with even grander pronouncements about revamping downtown. I want to believe it's all coming along nicely, but it'd be great to see something tangible soon.

Everything I've seen appears to indicate it will still be there, as I don't think the proposals are taking on that particular building. I know Stop N Save recently completed a major renovation and the owner has plans to expand as demand grows. I agree the awning should come down!

There are several entities involved, although UD does seem to be the anchor tenant. Warped Wing, Boston Stoker, DVAC, and others have committed to the space (assuming things move forward). The developers are waiting to hear about the latest round of tax credits that should be announced soon. I think it's the same credits that the Arcade lost out on in the past year and the Center City Building got. The city is considering three proposals that were submitted for this site, and should be selecting one soon. One of the developers is the team doing the Wheelhouse development. I'd expect once that happens, it will take another year for financing, planning and then construction might start. The city has an RFQ out for the old DDN/Schwind building site right now, with proposals due in July. I believe that a complication is that the city doesn't actually own the old DDN building, since it reverted back to the demolition contractor after the previous developers crashed and burned.
