Not the NY Pizzeria space, but a restaurant called "Triplett's Diner" and three upper-level apartments have been proposed by a local resident at 1800 E. A new Greek restaurant called The Gyro Room is coming to 1124 Brown St and targeting a March open. Founder is John Hanna who ran Kala Greek Grill in West Chester.

Whoa, lots of restaurant news today! I'm not surprised the 5th St. Wine and Deli space didn't stay empty for long. The Oregon District can definitely use more late night food options as well as breakfast. And getting a Chinese restaurant back into the CBD should be great too.

Flats at South Park development ready to begin Construction on the long-discussed Flats at South Park gets underway in the next couple of weeks, and developers say it will be the first of several projects that will help enhance and extend the Brown Street corridor north toward downtown. There was a proposal about 10 years ago to build some infill along the south side of 5th in front of the Dayton Towers building to try an enliven that stretch. With all of the activity happening further east, maybe that proposal will come back. I didn't know that; interesting. I think the recent road diet for 5th definitely could help make that possible. (And man is there a lot of space on the SW corner of Keowee and 5th too.) The new bike lanes on that stretch of 5th are nice and there's a Link bike share station right up across from Stivers near the new stuff. Getting a new restaurant in the space that was most recently New York Pizzeria would be big too. I know there was recently an article that said the same people might try again with a new restaurant, but not sure how that's going.

Agnes All Natural, which moved out of its downtown location and is currently operating as a food truck, is supposed to be opening back up at 1513 W. Third St., just down the block from Texas Beef. They've announced it a few times on their Facebook page. I'm a big fan of their food.

Redeveloping that "TALS Corner" building would be excellent, as well as beefing up that area in general with more businesses. Taqueria Mixteca is already very popular but there's definitely still a perception among many that it's not an area you want to be. Another East Dayton project happening soon: a Cat Cafe with a space under contract at 1513 E Fifth St., very close to the Fifth St Brewpub.
