Overall, it's kind of an amazing transformation. The photo above is close to the same vantage point as this historic photo of the manufacturing plant.

It’s not uncommon to build around a tower crane. The floor slabs are designed to leave a stacked opening that is filled in when the crane is removed. The concrete crane foundation is left in place.

New 5 story apartment building to begin construction on W Broad. https://www.bizjournals.com/columbus/news/2025/06/02/550-w-broad-street-apartments-franklinton.html "More apartments are coming to Franklinton, just down the road from the Gravity development on West Broad Street. Construction on a five-story residence could begin by late summer on the currently vacant lot at 550 W. Broad St., Grant Dolven, a partner at developer Grateful Dev, told Columbus Business First. Dolven anticipates the building's opening in early 2027. The ground floor will have 1,400 square feet of retail space and podium parking with 42 spaces. The four residential levels on top will contain 64 apartments. Dolven does not yet have a retail partner in mind for the commercial space. The property is sandwiched between two historical sties, the Harrison House and Sullivant Land Office, at 570 W. Broad St., and Engine House No. 6 at 540 W. Broad St."

Whitehall could double their density and still be lower than the 43202 zip code. I see lots of opportunities for growth.

I did a permit search - it's Pink Development and Construction. The same guy who proposed an 11 story building on Glenwood in Franklinton.

Columbus: General Business & Economic News
This is an interesting assessment of the City of Columbus' fiscal health. It's the nuts and bolts of a city's infrastructure that allows it to grow and prosper. Aging pipes and roads are a liability to a municipality and apparently Columbus is on the right track. This stuff isn't sexy but it make me feel pretty good about our leadership over the last 50 years that positioned us in a good place. It makes me feel better about voting for bond packages. This is what attracts new business to the city and region. Strong TownsColumbus Locals Turn Data into DialogueWhat happens when everyday people dig into a city’s balance sheet? In Columbus, it sparked a three-hour conversation—and maybe a shift in mindset.

Looks like the MOB on top of the garage is beginning to take shape. That will go up quickly since it’s a steel structure.

The apartments at the Mt Carmel site are wrapping up. There’s a cool pedestrian promenade installed on the south side connecting to the school of nursing (on the right side of the image).

Great project! On a side note, it irks me when reporters refer to a site as “vacant farmland.” It’s not vacant, it’s farmland.

Hey! I had my wisdom teeth pulled there too! Maybe in 1980?

Columbus: Downtown: Grant Hospital Redevelopments
Perhaps the garage being demolished had reached the end of its serviceable life. It was built in the 1960s I believe.
