  1. I think they did a good job matching the old brick on the new builds.
  2. City staff is very favorable of ADUs. I can see these legalized in the next round of zoning updates. That will save homeowners time and money to avoid jumping through hoops as they do now.

    The hand wringing by a few people on the Clintonville Discussion Forum on FB is very entertaining. They’re convinced all of High St will be 16 story buildings. Minimal googling will tell them that 4 story is the max for the majority of High in the neighborhood.
  5. ^This is in the neighborhood where I grew up! Glad to see this happening! When I was a kid Mifflin HS was in the building currently occupied by Mifflin MS. The HS was so overcrowded back in the day that kids went to school in two shifts. 6-noon and noon-6.
  6. This project on E. Main near College is now underway with site demo ongoing. I drove by yesterday but was unable to snap a photo. The existing apartments were almost completely demolished.
  7. I used to frequent the Bank Ohio that used to be there in the 90's. That stairwell in the middle leads down to the vault. It's a beautiful building.

    It's not exactly clear, it seems it was added to placate neighborhood concerns. The proposal at Weber and High as I recall has less parking spots than units.

    Council is amending Zone-In, watering it down a bit. Building height and parking requirements have not changed.   14. ^^To me, this project never seemed like a serious proposal. There were too many things not thought out and now we learned there were building code issues. Something like this would be better suited for one of the Zone-In identified corridors.

  17. Only if they want to pay double or triple the rent. New commercial space is going to cost more than local businesses or chains are able to pay.
  18. Chambers Rd. could use sidewalks in this area. Parts are in Columbus but most are in Clinton Township. I doubt the township has the funds or the will to build sidewalks which is a shame considering how dense this area is becoming. Some of the newer developments have installed walks but there are huge gaps along existing structures.

    Taylor Terrace on Summit between 1st and 2nd. The first photo from 1982 is a view from High St looking east along 1st. I’m not sure of the location of the second photo, maybe looking north from 1st? It was demolished in 1999 or 2000.
  22. 12' is too wide for city streets - that's better for roads like Morse Rd. 10' to 11' is much better for slowing traffic - the City of Columbus has standardize lanes ranging from 10' to 13' depending on the design speed. Great streets and neighborhoods think less about traffic throughput and more about the safety and comfort of those living there.
  23. First of all, a semi doesn't belong on this street. You're not getting one down my South Clintonville street. UPS trucks have trouble. We have parking on both sides with two way traffic confined to a single center lane - a traffic engineer's nightmare. The corner radius on my street is 6'. Everything you described above has to do with moving traffic quickly, and very little about the urban, pedestrian experience. Walking in the Short North or Old Worthington is pleasant. One of the factors is slower traffic. I recommend this book. It doesn't bash civil or traffic engineers - they provide a valuable service. They just shouldn't lead the design of people focused places.
  24. That's the point - to slow traffic. It's not a freeway off ramp. My biggest pet peeve is when I'm taking a slow right turn off of High some yahoo is riding me because I'm causing them a 2 second delay. Bigger radii encourage faster cornering which is a pedestrian safety issue.
