Columbus: Fifth by Northwest (5xNW) Development and News
Pablo replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionThe entire tri-village area (5th x Northwest) has incredible potential! Per the City's Zone-In proposal, all the areas in orange (UCT) allow for 5 story buildings - 7 stories if there's an affordable housing component. The two blues along King, 5th and 3rd (UGN-1 and UGN-2) are 4 story zones. The blue along Olentangy (RAC) has a 7 story max with 10 story allowed if there's an affordable housing component. If a developer chooses to go higher they can try through a variance.

Columbus: Franklinton Developments and News
Does the City have a streetscape project lined up for East Franklinton other than Link-Us? It seems like every other developer in town is expected to replace sidewalks that were taken out during construction. Why hasn't Kaufmann been required to pour sidewalks? It seems every street they tore up has gravel and a narrow asphalt strip. When the High St. rebuild was imminent in the Short North, developers had to pour sidewalks even though they were going to be removed.

Parsons Ave in the mid 1950s. This is looking south towards the intersection of Marion at the traffic light. Looks like a bustling commercial corridor serving the community.

I'm not against height - just seems strange. Zone-In calls for 4 story max on Sullivant just to the south. Maybe it can be the start of something interesting in the City?

How dare you question our benevolent overlord Les Wexner! CDDC, guided by Wexner and his favorite starchitect Robert Stern determined the best look for a rust belt city was a romanticized early industrial revolution New England woolen mill. Never mind that none of the previous sentence applies to Columbus - plebs like us cannot comprehend the genius behind Highpoint. I fear for the day when Wexner can no longer guide us and we are left to wander the wilderness alone.

Looking south in 1980 - the Centrum ice rink is circled. It’s amazing how much of our downtown was lost to create parking. A lot has been rebuilt but huge scars still remain.

Columbus Metro Library Branch Projects
I agree with that! The Clintonville Area Commission called for a new rec center and library through a couple of resolutions last year. I don't know how much weight that holds. The problem with the Whetstone library is that the library doesn't own the land - it leases it from the city. That creates complications as far as rebuilding on City property. It seems the two entities should be able to work together to come up with a solution. Even though the Whetstone Rec Center had an addition built in the early 2000s (I think) it is still the oldest rec center in the city.

Columbus: Downtown: Merchant Building
I don't think Charlotte as a whole is something to aspire to - maybe just the skyline. It's much more car-centric than Columbus. Like any city, it has nice neighborhoods, but City Nerd calls it the world capital of sprawl. Columbus City density 4,109.64/sq mi, Urban Density 3,036.4/sq mi Charlotte City density 2,821.06/sq mi, Urban Density 2,098.3/sq mi
